WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH THERE!

Learn to read!

He said - and i quote ""We are trying to make Zelda, which has become very complicated, easier to play"

That does NOT translate to "making the game easier"

"Easier to play" could mean a variety of things, maybe better sign posting, maybe better controls, etc - it does not necessarily mean "make the game easier"

>Well, Zelda has never been exceedingly deep or difficult for the most part

NONSENSE!

Go back and play link to the past on the snes.. or Majorias* mask... And realise you're talking complete nonsense.

* cant remember how to spell that.

Does no one read whole threads anymore?

I'll say again, nowhere in that WHOLE ONE SENTENCE, which probably isn't perfectly translated anyway as is so often the case with statements from Japan, about the game, does he mention lowering the difficulty, let alone "dumbing down" of any kind. He simply says it's going to be easier to play, which could mean anything, or absolutely nothing.

Maybe chill out and wait the four days for their press conference before sensationalising so much, hm?

We wouldn't want those kiddies unable to play the latest title in one of Nintendo's biggest franchises would we? Meh, if Twilight Princess was any indication, the series' overall quality ended with Wind Waker. TP is the only Zelda that I've never played through more than once.

Zelda has not been that hard to us, I suppose, because we have been playing them so long. It's not like the controls are too tough, usually being mapped fairly, or the enemies too overpowered. We know the tricks, by now, and we know the way the puzzles lay out, but that's hard to change, really. Maybe some new tricks, new tools, but there isn't much one can do about those without some exciting creativity. The enemies have been in the same rut for awhile now, with similar attack patterns, and most of us know those. So I guess I'm saying...the new gamers get to learn what we already know, but we, the experienced fans of the series, wouldn't mind some new challenges, or puzzles with a bit more of a danger feel to them. Mess up and fail, sort of puzzles, since the safely designed puzzles have us thinking critically, at times, but are always safe, giving us plenty of time to think. I wouldn't mind a few puzzles where we have to think fast, react fast, and be quite familiar with the gameplay, in a more devastating, harsh environment. Maybe he means hints on some complex puzzles, maybe he means enemy difficulties, maybe he means something like the superguide function in the recent Mario titles, but either way, I'm not sure how this will affect those of us who almost religiously play the titles. Guess we'll wait and see.

We demand nothing short of the same game presented to us over and over again with shinier graphics!

Though yeah, I've never thought Zelda needed to be easier.

This has been discussed before I believe. What was said previously was that the interface was too intimidating, and he wanted to make it more streamlined, and thus the game easier to play.

Easier to play doesn't mean easier. Remember Smash Bros is one of the easiest games to play, but the hardest to master. Same with Bayonetta.

They won't make Zelda simple, it'll be fine I think.

EDIT: And I'm not trying to be rude, but that title is pretty sensasionalist as well as inaccurate. Kotaku do stuff like that, best to rise above it.

WAT.

Legend of Zelda is piss-easy! Miyamoto, the Wii has enough dumbed down games already! The only people you don't have yet are senile old people and infants!
That should be taken care of with Nintendo's new "Super Mario Party 9000:piss yourself, cry and have someone change your diaper."

Lower difficulty doesn't necessarily make a bad game... But it's also certainly not the only step to attracting a wider audience.

Are you kidding?? Both the WindWaker and Twilight Princess were too easy for me, I was disappointed! I think Ocarina of Time had a pretty good difficulty, but then it's really easy for me because I played it so much. They should just make different difficulty levels, ya know, Easy, Normal, and Hard modes. Lazy Buttholes.

I think the first thing that should have been a giveaway was it being a german interview of a japanese developer translated into English.

As in, that shit is getting translated twice. Chinese Whispers all over again. But regardless, this isn't the first time he's said this, and it's not the first time it was mis-interpreted, which is a shame.

This makes sense when you think about it. Zelda is easy if you've been playing games all your life, but when I first tried to play it when I was young it was pretty tough. And since most of the older guys won't touch the Wii because it's teh gay, who do you think they're going to try to appeal to? At any rate, Wind Waker was easy but still fun, and it could just mean that they're putting in something like the guide from Mario Wii, so I'm not too worried.

why not just make adjustable difficulty if they're so worried? the settings can be "regular zelda," "here, have a coloring book," and "wow, seriously?"

Don't panic. Don't panic!

Remember how easy but great Wind Waker was? Think of Wind Waker! Everything will be fine!

*Thought Wind Waker was more difficult than TP*

Hey Zelda fans, welcome to the world of Silent Hill fans. Sux don't it? Just remember to breathe (don't hold your breath waiting for a decent sequel, you'll pass out) and ignore the future titles. Just keep replaying the good ones until you hear that they will make a decent sequel...which will probably never happen.

I love Miyamoto for what he's done so far, but he's going down hill fast lately. There is no particularly hard Zelda game, the difficulty it's currently at suits it well. I beat Ocarina of Time and Majora's mask when I was about 6 years old, Twilight princess was actually easier than both of them. Windwaker was also at a decent( still fairly easy) difficulty. Lowering the difficulty is not! what we need.

The one thing that might be nice is difficulty options. That way I could keep it right where it is, or maybe play a more difficult version the second or third time through.

Complicated? Sure. Difficult, not so much. Too many minigames, sailboats, and wolf forms may have tarnished more recent games, but Zelda has never been a game about incredible challenges or insurmountable odds. Just make another 2-d top-down Link's Awakening type game, and give me back my spear-on-a-chain cannon instead of a UFO catcher and I'll be a happy gamer.
