Yes, you are a programmer. Are you an experienced or qualified programmer? No.

Yes, it does make you a technician. Does that make you an experienced technician or a qualified one ? No.

That, and maybe try joining a different guild. And stop raiding - it is the anti-fun.
Hardcore raiding is a pain in the ass, but raiding can actually be quite fun with a good group of folks.

I talk to people and get to know people in Guild Wars before I let them join my guild, just to make sure they aren't jerks, but I definitely don't require playing skill or anything from them.

I bite my thumb at you and those who think in the mirror opposite of your established definitions, good day to you, sir.
Do you quarrel, sir?
On topic, I don't like how suddenly it's not about being a gamer, but a real gamer. What happened to the, "if you play a video game, you're a gamer," mentality?

Whatever happened to fun? Now it's "UR NOTA GAMERUFAG CUZ YA DONT PLY MW2!" because of a game they like. Who bloody cares? I hate MMO's, but if they like them let 'em why do we have to label them? I'm one of those FPS players you hear on the news for not getting enough sun... :C for stabbing people in the eye for sniping me in bad company 2!! YEAH MANLY!

OT: Seriously I play fps games and am just there to have fun, don't care about my score, just want to kill and have fun. MMO players are fine if not a bit obsessive with their games sometimes.
These opinions have always existed. Before it was:
Your not a gamer...
...if you play on easy.
...if you haven't played [insert game title(s)]
...if you cheat or grief
...if you don't cheat or don't grief
...if you use [insert game weapon(s)] or [insert tactic or strategy]
...if you don't use [insert tactic or strategy] or don't use [insert game weapon(s)]
...etc.
My question is why do we care about other peoples gaming quality or whatever?

Why are so many people striving to label everyone? Sure there's annoyances in games like noobtubers or whatever that basically deserve to be called that as it's just basically them trying to annoy (I've seen it). But now people are just being ridiclious.

I got called a noob because I use the spaz shotgun in MW2, so okay I thought, I switched to the AA12, I got called a noob again. So do I have to submit 3 forms to each gamer...I'm sorry, game PLAYER because "Gamer" is an earned and prestigious title; in the lobby for verification and sign a non-noob clause before I use a shotgun? Or do I just sign up to "I don't give a flying fuck about what people label it, I'm here to have fun"

It's because taking down a boss in MMOs like WoW generally takes a lot more concentration and cooperation (if not necessarily skill) than single player games.

Rule #1 not talking when the guild master is talking
Well, generally the GM knows what he's doing. It wouldn't be very good if, while the GM is going over an important point on a boss battle, some idiot started rick rolling everyone, causing them to miss out on some important strategy and lose hours of time.

#2 no channel hopping
This would be a rule for much the same reasons as the first one. You don't want to miss out on an important strategy for a boss fight because you hopped channels.

#3 no joking
Raiding is srs bsns.

Mostly MMO RPGs are fun. you may ask me why did i bash MMOs so much just to say they are fun, well....lets say i am playing WoW and i spent the last two years getting the best gear in the game then i see an ORC that just got to level 80, do you think i wont be able too 1 shot him?
that is why MMOs are fun, your not going into the unknown when you see a person you can just look at his gear and make up your mind weather you will kill him or get killed
Ok, now I'm confused as to why you even made this thread. If the games are fun, who cares whether or not people who play MMOs are "real gamers"?

'MMORPGamers aren't gamers' is accurate in the sense that 'chess players don't play board games'. They play a game involving well thought out tactics as opposed to run-shoot-respawn (For the record I play guild wars while my busted up xbox loads CoD). And from the actual post, it sounds like the title should be 'WoW players are not real gamers'. Still inaccurate, but that way you aren't judging a whole genre based on your limited experience with a single game. Not sure why you'd target such a broad group of people in what can only be described as baseless stereotype. Do you need a hug? 'Cuz I got mad hugz. Ewe can haz dem.

It's a game. How can playing it hours a day make them not gamers? It makes them a special kind of "isolated" gamers yea, but still gamers.

A drinker implies someone who drinks either regularly or on occasions. Giving that you do not fit the definition, you are not a drinker.

However, remember that in the examples above you stated that you "swam every summer", you "installed VCR's" and you "did HTML". You implied that you have done these three actions a couple of times so you are familiar with how these 3 actions are done. You therefor have experience in these three said subjects since you have dedicated time and effort into doing said activities. You are by definition knowledgeable on the subject of installing VCR's, swimming and doing HTML and are a programmer, a technician and a swimmer albeit not professional ones.

I never said i haven't drunk this drink more than once. (jimmy and coke btw)
you see, you can't play just one game and call yourself a gamer. Just the same way you cannot master 1 magic trick and then call yourself a magician.

OUCH!

You seriously are saying that there's no competition in MMOs? If there was no competition, why the fuck would we care that some BE hunter has a better bow than us?

Competition permeates every aspect of Western society, ESPECIALLY video games.

Well to point out something simple is the problem si you are playing WoW. WoW is probably the most level driven and gear driven MMO out there. While something like GW is not to do with your gear but with your 8 skills. Yes gear can give you an edge in PvP but is not need as much in PvE.

Why would you use a shotgun?
Because they're awesome that's why.:|

How else do you answer that? Because they're a good gun?

Who cares about killing sprees in CoD? You don't get the cool 'KILLING SPREE!' from Unreal, plus all CoD games sucked. Besides I used to play WoW and I could go 'I JUST HAD A 20 HORDE KILLING SPREE!' if I wanted to, but I didn't, as I'm not a hooting dick hole.
Your arguement is great until you went "all cod games sucked". Another sweeping generalisation to combat a sweeping generalisation isn't very productive. I love CoD. I loved WoW. Both appealed to different aspects of skill for me as a gamer. In wow i found it very fun playing my role was warrior tank and making sure i did my job efficiently. In Cod i enjoy mastering the skills and playing competitively against other players like i couldnt in wow becuase gear = win every single time. Killing sprees are a fun part of CoD, feeling like a god killing people on THE SAME FOOTING as you with nothing but SKILL instead of GEAR ahead of them. Lets you know your a gamer not a grinder. Wow pvp has no boasting value ever. You won because of gear. End. I think PVE is the main and best part of wow to focus on, playing in a team together with the reliance on your friends was the best part for me.
I just hate the CoD games with a passion, not my cup of FPS tea, I'd much rather play Unreal Tournement or TimeSplitters, I'm not making a sweeping generalization, I'm stating my oppinion on a series of games that bores me ridgid.

gam·er
gam·er [gey-mer]
?noun
a person who plays games.

MMOs are games.

People who play MMOs play games.

MMO players are gamers.

There's no goddamn reason to run about labeling people as not 'real gamers', not least on an example from a single ('We're Serious Business, stop having fun guys') guild. Trying to classify yourself as some kind of superior strain of gamer just smacks of wanting to feel superior and lacking a good reason to do so.

Person 1: Farcry2 is awesome b/c of the freedom I'm allowed in the missions and the massive amount of enemies that want to kill me.
Person 2: Farcry2 is a pile of elephant turds because it is unplayable, everyone wants you dead and the guns can't kill anything.
My main complaint about Far Cry 2 is the damn enemies respawning the instant you step about 20 yards from their camp.
In the PC version that doesn't seem to happen on hardcore... maybe the consoles are different? Other than being able to save whenever you want, where-ever you want. I just stopped driving through guard points when I realized that the game rewards you diamonds by find your own route off the beaten path.

just don't say that while playing on the xbox... someone didn't like me calling people out on that stupidity and gave me some bad rep.... as if anyone actually cares about that thing.
