I think the criticism exaggerates any evident problems, afterall it is still a fictional game, no matter how photo realistic.

We're told continually by Christians that the world will eventually be destroyed amongst disease, famine and righteous fire - yet we have a Christian here saying that the fictitious depiction of considerably less than that in a video game of all places, is going "too far"?

What?

Of course if someone in eastern Europe said this than he'd be a terrorist to this jerk. What so if America got invaded then they won't hurt anyone or do anything wrong? GROW UP! This guys an idiot, just
ahhhh
i've got nothing else to add other than i hate this person with the marrow of my bones.

Well, I'm sure terrorists will seize on the game, and make it their plan. As they play the main character, they will assume that this is the American military strategy, and as soon as they kill 11 Americans, they gain access to a helicopter gunship instantaneously.

YES THIS PERSON CRITICIZING IS DEFINITELY GROUNDED IN REASON.

And soon, crap for all the idiocy he is spouting. When I saw the trailer, all I could think was "bad - ass. want. now!" Wow.

Just, wow. This game does not even come close to "going too far", if you compare it to what is actually happening in reality.

Oh come on, not being funny but every other country on earth has had the shit blown out of it in the name of entertainment. That guy just need a large unbunching of his panties. Funny enough the white house is probably the only government building destroyed for entertainment that actually has been destroyed before.

It would hardly be possible for a terrorist group to get a military presence large enough to actually pose a serious threat to US militia forces let alone the actual Army on US soil. Can you even imagine the logistics?
Firstly, who said it's a foreign invasion? The dirty secret of American history is that, historically, Americans have killed far more Americans than anyone else has. You've had a bloody civil war already, and you have plenty of "militia" movements in your past. Domestic terrorism (including police response) has killed more US citizens than all foreign-originated terrorist events combined. But no one talks about that in the US, it seems...

Secondly, please thank Mrs. Madison and tell her she sets an excellent table [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burning_of_Washington#Events]. Though the specifics of that event won't be repeated in modern times, there is historical precedent. (The odds of which improve dramatically if, as noted above, there's a fifth column movement already in place.)

-- Steve
If it's a US anti government force (which is scarier and likelier with the actions recently taken against a Census agent) why was it a Russian airport that was targetted for a terrorist act? And why was there retaliation in a former USSR state against US troops? It's not like former USSR countries are big fans of Russia. I mean... they left the republic via bloody conflict already. It makes no sense that it's not a foreign invading force.

I'm still convinced this is a jump shark either way though. Even if US civilians were to rebel do you think for a second that a military with so many nearby bases, hundreds of thousands of troops and the biggest suite of war machines in the world, would be stonewalled by a civic population armed with small arms and the occasional ordinance? This is supposed to be Modern Warfare 2, a game based in the same world as the first. That world was not different from our own save that a former USSR military commander, a despot and an anti Russian/US terrorist group happened to take over an old cold war MIRV bunker. It's not far fetched since there are likely some bases that existed outside of what is now Russia. Taking US soil, especially the capitol city, over an ocean with overwhelming military force enough to light the entire skyline on fire? Please.

It's been repeated in this thread many times over, but yeah... the same people who decry killing fictional, virtual Americans in a video game are totally gung-ho when real-life, breathing non-Americans are killed.

What a wonderful world.

And that is when this article lost credibility. 9/11, while painful was 8 years ago... I know it was painful, but you've got to move on at some point people, dwelling in the past has never accomplished anything.

Aaaaaaaand, I stopped caring here.

It's kind of like posing a highly difficult quantum physics problem to a 3rd grade "special needs" class and expecting anything useful to come out of it...
Exactly.

I hate these crazy religion freaks who try to get everything banned.

They just hate what they can't understand.

Kind of like how this thread is full of hate for the Christian Science Monitor, from people who don't understand it's a secular paper.

heh, ya know this is just like 'those' americans. oh sure its ok to see russia/iraq/china/vietnam or whatever other country you like burn to the ground, but the minute you [ut america itself in jepordy, the game becomes 'too much' frankly its nice to see a current FPS take place in somewhere other than the middle east or eastern europe. while america may not ahve been my first choice, its still nice to see the change of venue.

Ahh, super-patriots you strike again. Really though how can you complain about something like this. Not to mention the other games and forms of art that have depicted the same thing, (The Condiut, Turning Point, Fallout 3) but whhen i logged in to check my email, i saw in the recent news thing that plaestinians were worried about some bill. The picture was of them (protesters) burning an american flag while it lied on the ground. That angered me more than seeing this trailer which i actually saw yesterday.

Super-patriots , as i call them, need to stop bithing every time thier beloved america is depicted in a negative or hurt way. I had actually had some German exchange students in my class today and when we all go up to do the pledge of alligianc, it occured to me how odd it must be to them when every suddenly stops and pledges themselves to their country. and we do this every fucking day.I'm not trying to bash america \, for i'm an american myself. Truly we are the most eccentric and patriotic countries.

also what about the war of 1812? washington got burned and i saw a painting of it in my 7th grade text book and nobody cares about that and that actually happened.

But why should we care? if they didnt ban grandtheft auto or manhunt they arent going to ban this game

I just think it's funny that one game where DC burns is unacceptable, but hundreds of WW2 games are okay. How do you think the Germans and Japanese feel about constantly being portrayed as evil monsters, zombies, paranormal psychos and so on. And all because it's Americas one moment of glory in a history of fuck ups? And last I checked, eastern Europe and the middle east are mostly made up of innocent civilians trying to live there lives, not bent-on-destruction-of-america terrorists.

And if you look at it from a religious perspective, what better place for the rapture to begin thatn the USA. The land of decadence, extortion and war. No other country has as little regard for any of god's laws. And they do it in god's name no less.

I believe that games chould not be viewed as political or religious statements, they're GAMES! There are worse things in the world. Like CSM idiots who ought to look into pop culture etc, before they mouth off about something they don't understand. Why was the jerk even watching a trailer for a WAR GAME? -.-

Sweet trailer. Graphics look ftw. The white house on that reminded me of the last level in Armageddon (That really bad game from years ago.. anyone else remember that?)
