I wouldn't say it's gone too far at all. In a game about modern combat against threats upon our country where else would the ultimate battle take place? Of course it would eventually have to spill to our own soil, and what more iconic a battlefield than our capital city.

Darn patriotic Americans (not all of you) not worrying about a Middle Eastern city being nuked but DC being the centre of a battle is just going to far. I think it being depicted in DC gives it some sort of striking edge to the game when you see the Capital of a world Superpo.......nation being destroyed it can make connecting emotionally to the game that much easier.

I realy bet that when IW put America into the game, they knew something like this was going to happen, which I commend them for to not be afraid of poloticians.
(I think MW2 might be a prequel to fallout 3)

These humans need to get over their losses and realize that there are worse things that can happen.

Where the hell were all of these critics when Infinity Ward NUKED a METROPOLIS in the first Modern Warfare?

Anyone seen Independence day? That had the white house blow up. Sure it was made before 9/11 but it's been on TV since. Besides, 9/11 was 8 years ago, surely some game where you get to shoot some guys in DC isn't that much of a big deal right? Loosen up! You don't even see the White House crumble or anything! Just a but of paint peeling off! Jeez!

Quite ironic how in the video, one of the voices talks about how they have yet to experience war on their own soil and this will show them the true horror of war. They seem fine if there's a game where you bomb the shit out of a different country, but when it's America, that's going too far.

Love the voice of the sinister character too.

It'd be no worse if it were a large town or city in any other country.
Too many games focus on Eastern Europe, I'm glad someone has finally turned round and ***** slapped America.

...So it's okay for Fallout 3 to take place in a almost completely destroyed D.C., but not Modern Warfare 2? Fuck you, CSM.

On a side note:

Of course, the implication here is that "post-apocalyptic scenes of carnage" are acceptable so long as they aren't being played out on US landmarks. I'm as fond of my capital as the next guy, but there's no difference from people setting the White House on fire in MW2 and me blowing the hell out of Aachen in CoD: Finest Hour. My cousin and I are still of the opinion Resident Evil 4 could be improved by having Saddler let Leon and Ashley return to DC and then having to gun down zombies in the White House after DC had been completely wiped out by the parasites.

Oh, bloody f*ing hell it's PC again. For those who do not know, PC states that it's okay for one and not the other. In other words, segregationalist (can't remember how to spell that one...).

It's pathetic. The country of a dictator gets nuked, it's fine. America gets nuked, it's an outrage. Folks, either it's ALL okay or NONE OF IT is okay. One or the other, Christians. You should shut up now, preferably before you start digging the hole (or putting up the cross). If you're not comfortable with seeing the destruction of a nation, we have a problem. It's a nuked city. It is a mass of concrete, steel, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc that has been blown up. STOP YOUR DAMN BITCHING and stay the hell away from me. I WILL NOT be held accountable for what happens. And the Christian Science Monitor? It's little better than the christians condeming Harry Potter for promoting Witchcraft. What God and Jesus did could be considered Witchcraft, no? Well, I think you hypercritical, hypocritical idiots have to shut up as well. Harry Potter is a fantasy book. COD6 is fantasy game. The only difference is in interaction levels. It might not happen. It's simply because it's hitting too close to home that it's not okay. Grow thicker skin, ignore it, just leave the game and its fans the hell ALONE. Just don't try and push your own opinions onto others. I've not read all of the comments. Just checked the first page. Let's see where my post leads...

And before anybody here complains about the third word in, it's censored. Deal with it.
Thanks for offending ALL Christians--even those, like me, who don't care if the game nukes DC. Be a little more understanding that it's ONE person saying this...not all of us.

yeah, I thought there was an edit or two I forgot to do before hitting 'post'... I wasn't having a go at all christians, though, Armageddon. I meant to have a go at the idiots who condemned COD6. I would edit the post, but due to the large number of replies since, I shall refrain from doing that. I f*cked up. I've admitted fault. I don't see any need to change it anyways as I'v tried to rectify it here.

So let's rephrase some of it here.

'It's little better than the christians condeming Harry Potter for promoting Witchcraft' Deffo should read along the lines of 'little better than when they condemned HP for promoting witchcraft'.

And the 'One or the other, Christians'... That last word should read folks.

Hopefully you'll be able to let it slide....

God, what a bunch of whiners. Did the British complain when the Houses of Parliament were blown up to an orchestral piece in V for Vendetta? Did the French complain when their Eiffel Tower was blown up on numerous occasions? No. The entire POINT of this trailer, if they'd read, was to get across the point that it was on their own soil, as shown by the speaker's lines. But, of course, there's always some spoilsport whining 'Ooh, think of the [insert], imagine how this could impact [insert]!'

Hmm, I'm kinda curious; this thread is 15 pages in, and I've only looked at the first two pages and the last, but has anybody yet pointed out to everyone going out of their way to take a swipe at Christians over this that Christian Science Monitor [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Science_Monitor] is not actually the sort of newspaper that they think it is? And in fact, this is a rather uncharacteristically lousy article from what has historically been a journalistically esteemed publication?

Wow, hypocrisy much.

It's ok for some town full of screaming reds or towel faces to go up in smoke, but not DC?
Blimey, maybe he should look at the positive of brave American (and several not American) soldiers frantically defening their homeland from a pervasive evil.

I don't get the 'destruction ok, so long as it's not our backyard' attitude that so many have (any nationality here), it's a very detached way of thinking and it inevitably comes back to haunt you in the most horrific ways (see Pearl Harbour, Northern Ireland, Algeria, Iran, 9/11, Madrid etc). It also seems an incredibly petty thing to get wound up over.
Well said. Personally, I think that it's Infinity Ward's decision, completely. It's their game, and since they proved that they're capable of handling that kind of modern setting in an FPS- as in COD4- I don't see why they can't set their game anywhere they want, anytime they want. It's not as if Modern Warfare 2 won't sell over 10 million copies, no matter what 'controversy' pops up.

Christians think everything is going to far there is nothing shown in that trailer that i have seen in a game before if not worse.
