I especially agree with 2 and 3. That's why I switched to Bad Company 2. It's INFINITELY better. Not to advertise, but that games so much better when it comes to keeping you from raging. There's normally always a class you can switch to to take care of the situation.

I really cannot put it any better than how it has been put in the opening (and refreshingly creative) paragraph question. But I'm going to anyway because I have JUST come off a round of MW2's typical horseshit.

Entire clip, but in the kill cam I didnt fire? Check.

Talentless gaywad knife runners? Check.

Clusterfuck level design full of random corridors, doorways, balconies and dicky little corners that make the game more about LUCK than strategy like COD4? Check.

But heres one that wasnt mentioned, and has not been mentioned as far as I can tell.

--For some goddamn ungodly reason, the powers that be have deemed that every single one of my teammates will spawn on an around me no matter where I am or if there is a higher ranked player on my team at the time. Everywehere I go, theres a dipshit teammate spawned in my back pocket.

Oh and heres another thing.....

WHY THE HELL DOES THE GODDAMN ENEMY AIRCRAFT AI SEEM TO THINK THAT I AM THE ONLY GUY ON MY TEAM!?!?! FUCK OFF AND SHOOT SOMEONE ELSE YOU BASTARD HARRIER!

To summarise: a lot of your complaints seem to stem from the poor skill of your fellow team-mates, I suggest that you make some friends with skilled players and try to group with them more often in order to reduce the amount of nubs on your team, and/or try a new game mode because domination sure sucks ass when you're playing with 10 year olds that just run around like headless chickens (no offence to any unusually mature/smart 10 year olds reading this).
Funnny enough, I have 4 real-life mates who play too.

The other night we all played Domination together for the night and we won 18 of our of 19 games.

WE have one really skilled player who charges in like a lunatic and goes for flags, using his fast reflexes and aim to kill anything that moves.

We have one guy who goes with him to back him up.

We have a careful slower player who will go for any flag that's being taken from us.

And then there's me, who kinda mixes everything up and usually splits up to flank and be sneaky and take the flag with less attention on it.

So you're correct in this view, playing with friends and communicating does make it a whole lot better.

It's mainly pub games that I'm referring to!

So you were hyperbolizing about MW2 being the only game to make you swear? Cuz I can't even go a lap in Mario Kart Wii before being launched into a swearing frenzy online.
Not really, I was talking about the old Mario Kart on the SNES. I never played it online as I don't have a Wii and don't plan to get one.

Mario Kart was great fun when you could ruin your buddy's lead by pushing him off his chair.

hmmm, that got me thinking. Players should receive an appropriate kill score based on the skill level of the player they just killed. Like if you shoot a player in the upper 10,000s you should be awarded more points and less for killing a new player. That way campers can't hound newer or less skilled players and get airstrikes. It would fix that problem and force them to hunt the better players for points.

Lag makes me want to claw my damn eyes out. I ran up and stabbed this guy on quarry. Twice. He wasn't even moving and somehow he was able to turn around and shoot me. That kind of thing makes me angry. I realize the game programmers do the best they can to eliminate lag but still it's very frustrating.

As for character builds they should really have included ten slots not five. When you play hardcore mode you need a completely different setup for the maps >.>

I think what irritates me the most though are the masses of immature players out there. I get so tired of that crap after a while.

Edit: the lack of a private team chat (except on like two modes) is also frustrating. I'd rather coordinate with my friends than random people who complain about everything.

Got it this week.

I honestly didn't think that it would be better, but yeah. People are right, it's much more fun and a much nicer environment to play in.

People actually work as a team and one really good player isn't going to dominate a game they way they can in MW2.

And there's no lag! Even at peak times. I no longer accept connection as an excuse for teleporting and lagging in COD, as it has not happened once in BC2.

The spawn system in BC2 is the best I've seen too.

You can unlock extra ones by Prestiging, but is it really worth the hassle?

I think they're programmed to prioritise the leading players on the enemy team... not sure though, that could just be a rumour.

As for the spawning... it is a fucking nightmare and it makes playing a stealth class completely pointless at times.

i only have a couple of complaints:

lag: seriously, it has a huge effect on my game. I live in alaksa where i have a perpetual three bars connection at best, my k:d ratio on average is 2:1. But, when im the host it jumps to 4:1 and sometimes higher, its a smoking gun on how much lag affects everything. Sadly when im hosting, that means everyone else is lagging and thus, a closed or merged lobby.

Spawning: in no other game have i had a problem with where i spawn. I have had numerous experiences where i will spawn and get killed two seconds later by someone who just happens to walk into the room, and like many others, killed by air support while being spawned with the rest of the team outside, MW2 is in desperate need of an at least 2 second "spawn-shield"

Other than that, i have no real complaints. Sure its annoying when in objective based games it seems like im the only one trying to do anything. "am i seriously the only one going for [insert objective here]?" is a common saying of mine during these matches. As for the nuke complaints, i have only seen the nuke three times, once used against my team and the others against the enemy. Like others, ive noticed that many of the complaints seem to be either of lack of teamwork (not going to change), poor skill on the teammates' parts, or players whose sole desire is to get as many kills as possible using the cheapest tactics. (dont get me wrong, im all about lots o' kills but you will never see me with a noob tube/OMA combo or any such cheap setup)

I also noticed earlier someone mention how they are consistently paired with crappy players. I too experience this phenomenon, there are many matches where i will have 2.5k+ points in tdm (frequently the match leader) only to be matched up with every player with under 1K, while the other team has every player in between.

One more thing, does this happen to anyone else? You decide to go stealhly and take the long route 'behing enemy lines' only to realize that the enemy has beated your team back to their spawning area and now your team is spawning near you, only for you to try it again and have the same thing happen? frustrating stuff....

Always. PLaying a ninja is redundant half the time in MW2 because of the shitty spawn system. Not just team-mates spawning on you, but enemies too. Spawning behind you, with you directly in thier line of sight. In a building.

As for the lag, is it really that bad in Alaska?

We often get American hosts here in Ireland, and to be honest it's pretty much unplayable when we do. It sucks when you see what a slow dumbass you looked on the killcam...

My brother and his cadre of friends play this game almost religiously, twice a week.

I played the single player (and while being disappointed in the story...) and during the free weekend on XBL, I gave the multiplayer a whirl.

I played it for all of 2 hours. I felt the matchmaking was nice, I liked the levelling system, and the ability to get custom titles, build a custom class, didn't really experience a lot of lag in playing...

Then during the actualy game I encountered the same scenario multiple times.

I'd empty half a damn magazine of bullets from a FAMAS into some guy's chest, watching him continue to stand there. Then, he'd slash my arm with his knife.

He'd slash my arm...

With his knife.

And I'd drop dead.

I remember Tycho of Penny Arcade had mentioned, that years ago, in a competitive FPS, using a melee weapon was a last resort, and killing someone with it was epic.

(I remember getting a few axe kills in Quake, way back in the day when I used to play it on MPlayer. I felt so awesome.)

For me, the mechanics were just too unbalanced to enjoy the multiplayer. Dual Wielding lever action shotguns? I guess everybody's a John Woo star...

But that's why I prefer games like Rainbow Six (and even the Vegas series) that punish players with the MW2/Halo mindset. At least until those players became the majority and started booting players who engaged in "faggotry" such as "taking cover".

I miss the older days of multiplayer, when it wasn't accessible to EVERYBODY.

That's caused me to rage on many an occasion... last time I checked, an entire mag of bullets does more damage to a human than a stab from a little knife.

This video sums up the MW2 knife situation pretty well:

In fact, it looks exactly like the situation you just described... are you sure that isn't you in the video getting stabbed in the arm?

Though one thing that annoys me is killstreaks. They basically mean that anyone who is doing well is only ever going to do better. I cant think of any better way to distribute them, so possibly not use them?
Agreed. I can't really speak about the other issues raised in the OP, but killstreaks have always seemed to me to be a truly ridiculously stupid idea.

The way the spawn system in CoD works is that you spawn near the player on your team who has been alive the longest. In objective gametypes, it prioritizes spawning near your defense points, but still nearest the longest surviving player near that point. So in TDM for example, if you flank around and the enemy pushes into your original spawn, your teammates will more than likely spawn with you because it's the safest area the game has found.

Well I was an avid Gears player before Modern Warfare 2 came out and comparatively MW2 makes me much less angry.
Number 1 annoys me occasionally but I don't mind I just switch to either a class with cold blooded or take out the Chopper and move in with the game, usually meaning I get 1 maybe 2 deaths from air support maximum.
Again from my Gears experience camping has never really gotten to me, after playing game after game of entire 5 man teams hiding in a bunker with grenades planted on doors and shotguns around the corner one guy with a noobtube won't bother me, I can just sneak up on him and lob one right back.
Talk to any Gears player about number 3. They will laugh in your face and tell you that you have no idea what host advantage is. This has actually been tested against an enemy standing still, the host of the game has a much more powerful shotgun than everyone else and as the luxury of 1-shotting somebody with hit at ~20% more range; and even they don't get a 1 shot kill, they get more damage than the non-host. SO if you end up 1 on 1 against the host, you're doomed.
As for number 4, 1 hit anywhere on the body with a torque bow = death. Boomshot, you shoot near somebody, they're dead.

Yeah you Call of Duty players have got it easy.

Too true. Or you get the noobs just chainsaw whoring, and when there is a really bad connection (ie, with about 6 second lag) like it is half the time, the match degenerates into everyone walking around with the chainsaw revved hoping to get some kills before the host comes along and kills everyone. Also when the host quits, the whole game ends, at least MW2 attempts to migrate it.

Modern warfare is no where near as unbalanced as gears 2 is. And that is the one thing they should fix in gears 3.

That kinda sucks.

They should cancel that out for people running a ninja class.

The Bad Company 2 spawn system is great, but only if you're in a squad.

You know, I read a Penny Arcade comic a while back that complained about this. At the time I thought they were joking.

This is pretty messed up. But on the bright side, it makes for very amusing youtube videos!

How about some games you get put into. If you kill someone, you instantly ding max level 70 and then feel cheated.

Yeah I know... not sure if it'll happen though, given the amount of MW2 threads on the site at the moment!

There are a whole bunch of hilarious youtube vids on the subject, this one is particularly good:

It was linked to a thread by another member yesterday, I can't believe it's not bigger on youtube.

The Op For voices made me belly laugh... 'Bambi! Tactical Header! Tango Sucker! Yo Mother! Semtex!'
