Ugh Gears, I love you, but the shit you put me through drives me up the goddamn wall.Conqueror Kenny said:Well I was an avid Gears player before Modern Warfare 2 came out and comparatively MW2 makes me much less angry.
Number 1 annoys me occasionally but I don't mind I just switch to either a class with cold blooded or take out the Chopper and move in with the game, usually meaning I get 1 maybe 2 deaths from air support maximum.
Again from my Gears experience camping has never really gotten to me, after playing game after game of entire 5 man teams hiding in a bunker with grenades planted on doors and shotguns around the corner one guy with a noobtube won't bother me, I can just sneak up on him and lob one right back.
Talk to any Gears player about number 3. They will laugh in your face and tell you that you have no idea what host advantage is. This has actually been tested against an enemy standing still, the host of the game has a much more powerful shotgun than everyone else and as the luxury of 1-shotting somebody with hit at ~20% more range; and even they don't get a 1 shot kill, they get more damage than the non-host. SO if you end up 1 on 1 against the host, you're doomed.
As for number 4, 1 hit anywhere on the body with a torque bow = death. Boomshot, you shoot near somebody, they're dead.
Yeah you Call of Duty players have got it easy.
It's interesting you point this out. For a while there I got pretty good in MW2, I was able to come first in games, always had the most Domination points captured and usually had the highest KJumplion said:This is convenient since I'm doing a school project on "Being polite online" and I'm playing MW2 because of this (borrowed the game from a friend).
Ironically, I'm still yelling in frustration despite my project title. The game punishes you for going in things fast and head first by being the first to get killed, but punishes you for slowing down and/or staying still since someone is going to sneak up behind you and kill you or a kill streak reward will.
MW2 does not do any of that, it just plops you anywhere on the map and you can die in two seconds, only to respawn a second later and get killed 5 seconds after. Every second you're just going "I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die...."
.
It's really annoying because you're always expecting to die in MW2, wheras in BC2 even if you're getting a huge killstreak you're thinking "man I'm awesome!"MiracleOfSound said:It's interesting you point this out. .spead in Team Deathmatch.
But no matter how well I was doing it was not fun. Because in MW2 your good work can be fucked up at any moment by a bad spawn, stupid team-mate, random explosion, Chopper Gunner, Pred Missile... so it's this constant nervous energy going that I somehow mistook for fun.
The 'I'm gonna die I'm gonna die' thing you said is interesting too. When I do well and come first in a MW2 game I don't feel elated, I just feel a kind of anxious nervous relief. Compare that to Bad Company 2 or COD4 where most of the time if you destroy the other team you know you did it with skill, and if you died miserably you know it's because you fucked up (not including Martyrdom of course...)
Indeed. And your gameplan in BC2 isn't fucked up by your dumb team-mates as easily as they can do it in MW2. (they still try though, damn them...)Jumplion said:It's really annoying because you're always expecting to die in MW2, wheras in BC2 even if you're getting a huge killstreak you're thinking "man I'm awesome!"
Yep. There's a difference between action packed and a complete clusterfuck. I kinda got bored of them both too. Went back to single player for a while.... so much calmer experience.Jumplion said:If people like MW2, that's fine, I really don't care. I enjoyed BC2 way more than I did MW2, though I ended up stopping because, like all multiplayer games, I eventually got bored of doing the same thing again and again. But there's a fine line between fast paced and hectic and down-right too chaotic.

If you're playing a game that's especially mismatched connection wise, ALL of the hosts weapons are more powerful. I had the pleasure of hosting a match and downing a guy who was at full health with a grand total of FOUR shots from a hammerburst. He was about to burst a blood vessel after that match.
Because if you had to compensate for things, it would place too much emphasis on skill and MW2 is all against that sort of thinking.ColdStorage said:I've watched some videos of MW2 and its interesting...
I've watched several different players using the knife to teleport across the map, I mean like go through walls, its visceral and looks fucking awesome but if I was on the receiving end I'd foam at the mouth.
Also why don't the guns have recoil?, there's no recoil and two bullets kill.
I agree with everything else you have written but this. I contest this with 3 words. Gears of War. No game has a bigger issue with host advantage and lag than Gears of War 2, no game EVER. After 20 odd days of playtime I know this. While it finds you teammates who you connect well to, 95% of the time you get paired with people on the other side of the world to play AGAINST, if you don't get host you will you will either lose or destroy your KD winning. Modern Warfare 2 actually has a half decent matchmaking system these days if I search Team Deathmatch at anytime I will find an Aussie game, and during primetime can generally find a good aussie game on any playlist. It's not great, but it's wicked, awesome, cool compared to Gears 2.MiracleOfSound said:3. Host advantage/lag is a bigger issue than in other games.
He joins a new game, this time on Favela. Good map for rushing, he thinks to himself as he gets out his UMP.
As he comes round a corner he sees a guy facing the opposite direction and opens fire. Almost a full clip of ammo shoots straight into the enemy, who soaks it all up, calmly turns around, aims about 5 feet to his left and blasts him dead with his Akimbo 1887s.
On the killcam our hero watches himself NOT FIRE ONE SHOT.
'FUCK!' he yells. 'That was fucking bullshit! What the fuck!'

'Man, I'm so Pro at this game with my skill-kill Akimbo shotties! I should be a MLG player!'
And during the killcam the person didn't have Commando at all.MiracleOfSound said:Next he sees a guy sprinting towards him from halfway down the hill...
'Aha!' he thinks. 'Big mistake' and opens fire - but other guy teleports 8 metres in the blink of an eye and knifes our poor hero in the face.
'FUCKING COMMANDO PRICKS! FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING ****!' he yells, and kicks the wall.
I've had a few people say this now, and yeah, I remember playing Gears 2 a few times and hating it, thinking it was slow, awkward and broken.LooK iTz Jinjo said:I agree with everything else you have written but this. you must not like many games thenMetalhandkerchief said:I thank my well developed game buying filter for not buying this game. I knew it sucked the moment I saw the first previews. But the rule is: if the original was good, all the kids will buy the sucky follow up and give bad developers enough money to keep spewing out trash. At least there is still COD 4: Modern Warfare.
Sigh.
EDIT: Of course 'sucky' is in relation to my standards: IMO a good game must be 100% good, or it is sucky. Excellent single player + sucky multi player = sucky game, period, and vice versa.
Hang on... I thought it was a beta? You mean that's the actual game???brodie21 said:wouldnt the multiplayer have been a lot better if they released a beta for it? then they could have fixed all the problems (or most of them)
