So basically what he's saying is the the Brits and Japanese are Evil or wish they could be more evil.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head there.

Actually, Peter Molyneux himself is British... Lionhead Game is a British studio... oh my god it all makes sense now. And the people who made Final Fantasy 8 are... oh my god. And everyone involved in the production of anime is... oh my god.

Bullshit. I'm american, most all of my friends are American. Every single one that played Fable and Fable 2 picked Evil. Who wouldn't? It's less effort for more rewards with no consequences.

And I thought Molyneux couldn't get any more pretentious. -_-

Well over 60% of Earth's population is Evil. Even in games.

This is a goddamn outrage.
Does he have a dog?
I'm going to kill and eat his dog.

In front of his little girl.

...Does he have a little girl?
Man, this is a lot of work.

But I'll show him evil!
Even if I have to wait...

EDIT: Though I will admit, I find it easier to be a dick in real life than I do in game.
I'm not sure why.
Could it be that it's much more fun in reality?

So essentilay; "10% of American gamers who take part in internet polls or don't mind being asked questions by a person with a clipboard say that they prefer to be evil in games?"

Personnaly in games I always pick the good option purely because being evil is often to easy and thus not as fulfilling; I mean why kill unarmed villagers when there are much more challenging monster to fight?

Does Molyneux realize that only the tiniest percent of japan owns a 360, so saying 40% isn't alot

Right, he clarified the numbers and research did he?

Well that's good to know, he's such a trust worthy source of information after all - he'd never BS about anything...

I would have to say that he didn't do his study correctly. If they had done a longer study over multiple characters, Americans would have shown a much stronger tendency towards evil. All that they learned was that 10% of Americans choose evil for their first character, and nothing beyond that.

Given the choice, I'm evil every chance I get.

I've gone on at least 3 killing sprees since I got Oblivion.
"Stop! You've violated the law!"
"I VIOLATED YOUR MOM!"
"Then pay with your blood!"
Then everyone died except me.

And completely abusing my Force powers never gets boring in KOTOR.
"You want to give me 100 credits."
"No I don't!"
*Ignites Lightsaber*
"Of course I meant to say, here you go!"

Not like it's any big deal in any of the games that give you separate endings. You always get to that part where it flat out asks you, "NOW DO YOU WANT TO BE GOOD OR EVIL?" I always save, finish the game, then go back and get whatever ending I didn't see the first time.

Even playing Infected in Vs Mode L4D is the most entertaining part of the game!

In conclusion, evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

So, what I think Peter is so ungracefully trying to say isn't that he thinks American's are kinder (because we aren't) but simply we have a stronger tendency to put ourselves into our avatars, I don't know why that would be and those numbers are bullshit but I think that is what he is trying to say.

Phooey. I live in America and I've chosen the evil side almost every single time. There's something gleefully freeing about choosing the quick and easy path, and Overlord, Fallout 3, Fable II (natch), and KOTOR are all prime examples. I'm not so sure Molyneux has his statistics right, though I do respect his opinion.

Good path usually equals better and faster xp, while evil paths tend to reward more money. That is the way I see it. I'd rather go with the extra xp then more money almost every time.

Go America. I can't speak for others, but I played Fable and tried to be good-ish I guess. Itold myself I'd play it again and be evil, but after the ever-so-dissapointing ending I said screw it and stopped playing it. I can honestly say that the ending to that game was probably the most anti-climactic, terrible written, and poorly presented endings I've ever had the misfortune of playing. That by itself is probably why I will not get Fable 3.

As for the topic, I think it's cause Americans try to act good in real life but suck at it so they end up just saying screw it and being assholes. In games, however, morality is little more than a quick-time event with a frowny face for pressing X and a Smiley face for pressing Y. Americans look at this and say, "Hey! I can be morally good and not have to sacrifice anything of true value!"

To add more to my theory, people in other countries might liv ein stict environments where they would never dream of doing these things in real life, but find the idea of doing it without regrets a pleasurable experience. It has nothing to do with who's evil and who's good in real life, its simply how repressed the player is and how much they will unleash themselves within a game world.

Which puts all of you in the 10% mentioned. Your outrage is unwarranted.

And how do we even know his poll numbers are completely legit?

They're not poll numbers, but rather Mr. Molyneux's personal opinion.

I don't think he has a reason to be biased.
