Once I was snuck up on in Battlefield 2, but I think I heard the person coming, at any rate, when he was right behind me, I spun around in surprise and made an unscoped headshot with my sniper rifle. That was kinda awesome.

As a kid, playing Star Fox 64, and finally shooting all of the switches on the Landmaster stage with the train from hell... I was the first kid in the neighborhood to do that, and I felt like God for a week.

Or finally getting all of the stars in Super Mario 64... I hate the clocktower. Haaaaate...
Oh. My. GOODNESS.

The most bullshit moment in that entire game. Not having to fight Andross' brain after you kill his face. Not having to save Slippy 6 time per level.

THOSE GODDAMN SWITCHES.

killing "mother" in prototype it took me forever on the hard difficulty
Actually I found her quite easy to beat. Hide behind something, cannonball the hunters, drain them, use a destructor on elizabeth, hide and repeat.

now on topic...

beating level 5 of ikaruga on hard mode dying only once... that felt so satisfying.

Tidus and Yuna taking a swim in FFX, the only time a game made a hard hearted cynic like me actually cry.

You know the kind of moment I mean. When all the blood, sweat and tears comes to fruition. It could be a puzzle, boss or even just a whole game in general (Ikaruga springs to mind here) so long as it is satisfying to you.

Personally, mine is completing Lylat Wars (Starfox 64) with all medals along the hardest route.

What moments in gaming etched their difficulty into your minds?
Your post reminds me of my first rank S on chapter 4 (took a lot of struggling for it), and back when I had gotten 650+ kills on area 6. It was like the 2nd world record, I think, when I looked it up.

But there's been a lot. Best was probably when I hit #1 in NY in Trackmania.

Beating Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 1. He was a pushover in 2, and I was playing on the highest difficulty.

Destroying Sovereign over the Citadel in Mass Effect.
Ninja'd. When you're running along the outside of the Citadel, I was flipping out at how epic it was. Action-packed, climactic, ridonkulously epic, it had everything. That made the dinky little fight with the cyborg Saren that much more of a funsuck... I hated that second battle. What is it with final bosses and always wanting to have different stages and forms? Can't they just be straight-forward?

At least you could talk him into shooting himself to avoid the first battle. Not a lot of games let you do that.

When I beat the motorcycle chase in Chapter 3 from MGS 4 WHILE trying to obtain the Big Boss Emblem. I literally shouted "YES!" when I was able to do it.

Beating Hard Riddle Mode on Silent Hill 3 with no help. I felt so badass. Also beating No More Heroes on Bitter mode. Oh, and beating Killer8 mode on Killer7.

The first time in Mass Effect where I lifted some one off the ground and shotgunned them in the face. I nearly creamed myself when that happened.

The final battle on land in Gears of War. The music, action and environment were perfect.
