The first time I played the Ravenholm level of Half-Life 2, I was almost too scared to even start it. There was this one bit in particular where I killed a bunch of zombies, turned into an alley to look for supplies, and a headcrab that I thought had also been killed jumped at me. Practically made me jump out of my skin.

Also, in Fallout 3, any time where I'm walking around the Wasteland at night is usually pretty unnerving, especially at the higher levels, where a deathclaw could very well jump at me from behind at any moment.

Bloodsuckers from Stalker.. I jump every time I fight those guys. They are the worst in Call of Pripyat, because they are totally invisible until they start the charge.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines. The entire game just felt creepy, you even felt creepy playing it, because you were one of those scary things haha.

Star Wars: Republic Commando was pretty creepy in some sections. The first time you meet a Trandoshan (big lizard man thing with two knives) creepy music starts playing as you are walking through a ghost ship, separated from you squad who you just lost contact with one by one. You hear scuffling and noises from the air vents above and then it stops right when the music does. You continue walking for a few more moments in silence and then it drops out of the air vent right in front of you and tries to carve you up with its two long knives. That scared the crap out of me the first time it happened.

Also, the first time one of the face hugger things (baby Geonosians?) jumps out of the darkness and latches onto your helmet trying to eat through it; also in SW:RC

In STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl I was in the area with army warehouses at night. I explore the countryside and find this abandoned town. My PDA told me there was a stash in there, so I went in cautiously. No hostiles on the radar, so I step into town. I get to the center and I heard a loud crash. I quickly pulled out my TRS 301, and loaded it. I check my radar, nothing. I get to the stash and hear a roar. I nearly shit myself. About 6 bloodsuckers (just ONE can kill you easily when its close) sprinted at me, fully cloaked, I only saw their blood red eyes moving at me in the darkness. I still don't know how I lived. Half the time I was spamming the use medkit button, the other half was running backwards and firing wildly at anything that moved... I don't like bloodsuckers.

We don't go into Ravenholm from Half life 2...that entire lever is creepy and you get your 1st encounter with the poison headcrabs and poison headcrab zombies...if anyone is actually following me when i post you would know that i absolutely HATE headcrabs...ESPECIALLY poison headcrabs...
Totally agree, when Alyx said those words I knew, I KNEW I would be going there. On my first play through it was nerve racking, tension building, wonderful.

On my secod playthrough I skipped through the entire level not feeling the tension at all.

OP: Bioshock was irriatingly 'jumpy scarey'. I stopped playing a few hours in.

Every time I hear a snarl or howl in S.T.A.L.K.E.R SOC I twitch like a mad man.
Doesn't really help when you have headphones on and walk by a lightning anomality...Damn,I almost shat myself the first time that happend.
The village with bloodsuckers was... Scary.

I'd say it was either that, Tranquility Ln. FO3, or Oblivion Dark Brotherhood diary. To be fair Tranquility Ln. scared me because I was afraid what of what I would fine in the basements. Who the hell has a giant metal door to their basement anyway? I had to search the abandoned house over and over to make sure that nothing was hidden inside. In Oblivion I wasn't too bothered by the Diary, but games don't scare me much unless they're room escape games.

I have two games that completely scared me that I will always remember, the first is Psychonauts. I was stuck in the milkman level for hours in the middle of the night and I kept hearing those cameras flash which made me keep looking behind me in real life. I felt like I was being watched.

The other time was I was playing Resident Evil 4 and was just attacking the bug's nest when a ladybug flew and landed on my glasses. Needless to say I drop the controller and threw my glasses off my face in a nanosecond. I died in the game and had to wait a few minuets for me to stop hyperventilating. Of course playing in it my grandma's dark basement in the middle of the night didn't help much either.

Oh definitely, the Bloodsucker village would have to be one of my favourite scary-as-shit moments. I thought it was just creepy going into the tunnels under the Agroprom place because of the couple of Bloodsuckers down in there, but the Bloodsucker village really topped that one by several miles. Just hearing those roars from nowhere and then hearing them come rushing out of the abandoned houses, barreling straight through the boarded-up doors to get at me... Bastards.

I guess for me is a bit in Silent Hill 2, in the prison, the character looks into one of the cells but you can't seen anythink and your radio is going crazy like if a monster is their. You can even aim at it but it still dosn't move or do anythink.
Oh my god, you are so right. The game is filled with creepy shit like that, for example when

You are in the hotel and you walk up to the grate blocking access to the third floor where Maria is... and you just slightly hear her say... "James".

Also, do you remember going down into the basement of the hospital where you

hear that inexplicable noise of an animal screeching?

God, I love unecessary shit like this in a game. Especially when it serves to either confuse you or scare you.

Resident Evil 2, volume really loud(in my dark basement). I entered a door, the camera was facing the wrong way when I came out of the door. Two zombies attacked me from the blind zone, totally not expecting it right then. One of the most terrifying things I've experienced. :(

Never had much scare me in games.
But one game always managed to make me look over my shoulder whenever I was alone. Can't quite remember the game, but it was on the GameCube. Whenever your character's sanity started to drop too much, or something that was absolutely not right, the game would do something to you. The gamer.
Something I remember is turning the screen black with a green "VIDEO" in the top right corner, to make it seem the video cut off. Then you'd hear this bloodcurdling "AAAUUUUGGGHHHhhhh....!" from your character. After a bit, the video would come back, and you'd be exactly where you were.
Maybe a few bloodstains on the wall, or a corpse that wasn't there before, but just fine otherwise.
That would be Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem! :D

Fable 2, 2 parts, one where there are hundreds of armored soldiers who don't move and also when you go through that freaky demon door.

Pretty much just FEAR (the first one) which I chose to play the entirety of in the dark, at night and alone. Wasn't one of my smartest moments.
