I had a dream last night that freeked the fuck out of me. It had something to do with minecraft and porn but I can't remember it all that well now. Anyway, point is lots of naked people died, one died in a toilet then got resurected as a creeper in a suit and another one propelled themselves accross the room by shitting and then snapped their own neck when they hit the wall.

Then some creepers got fat and started flying at me. And then a big smoke monster came and fucked shit up.

You had to be there man...

EDIT: oooooooh video games... right. erm..... the sound of a zombie with a pickaxe digging slowly towards me when I thought I was safe in my cave.

The moment I realized in multiplayer that I had sent my friend forward into a slaughter. I mean, he respawned, and his ratio wasnt hurt that bad, but just the fact aht I did really disturbed me, because I always try to keep my friends alive and take the potential suicide risk.

That darn Flood room in Halo, "Well enough Alone" was creepy enough, something was just off, then you got to the room, and even the Master Chief was jittery. You watch the recording, and the guys get attacked in the room your in, and ooooh it just scared the living daylights out of me.
the flood music was terrifying cuz it sounded like slihering and crawling and dripping sounds O_O
also mansion of madness on timesplitters:FP that was scary... i walked into a room to find a blood soaked bed with knifes sticking into the mattress, i then walked into a bathroom to find the tub filled with blood but the scariest thing was when i looked at a smashed mirror and saw a zombie behind me. plus the music was chilling. theres one point where the soundtrack has a baby giggling and i had to play rock music in my headset to complete it
God, I hated those levels. Still, I did like the rest of the game. Remember the headsprouter? Go ahead, kill him. That sound. I had to mute it, and curl up for 5 minutes. I put him into a level accidentally, then, I shot him. Brr....I hate that noise, and it was louder than all the other sound effects. That game is really, really, REALLY scary sometimes. Then, it get's hilarious. Then terrifying again.

Also, that weapon from Battlefield BC2. The one that makes a huge roar before it fires. For some reason, it scared me as I was playing through the first level. If BFBC2 weren't a realistic shooter, that could have been some serious shit going down.
Yeah, whenever I heard that on my first run through the game I always got a sense of dread. When you first hear it, you just know something bad is going to happen.
The air raid sirens from Silent Hill have had an effect on me. Seriously, every time I hear one go off I get a huge sense of dread and sometimes even freeze up. It doesn't help that it seems to go off a lot in my town due to "severe weather warnings" that end up being small lightning storms at the most -_- One time I was walking home at night along a road that was surrounded by forest preserves. That road is pretty dark and naturally creepy. That damn siren went off and I don't think I've ever been more afraid in my life. I completely froze up. It's not just because of Silent Hill, it's just that fucking noise in general. There's just something about it.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent. After the first time I played it I kept hearing that music that means a monster is near and it freaked me out.

Another moment in Portal really did it for me...

Right after you get away from the flaming pit, when GLaDOS says that people are coming for me...("assume party position" and such)

I suppose that that prospect really scared me, after having been alone for so long... And that door. Must have been the most terrifying piece of scenery I've ever encountered in a video game, because it made it seem like it would actually happen.

One of the reasons I liked Extermination was that it was haunting and properly scary. It had the Survivor Horror curse of B-quality dialogue, but there was atmosphere here. Lemme explain.

First, music. The background music you got was suppose to build tension inside of you, to make any of your "Oh shit!" moments just a little worse. And try to remain calm during the more frantic-sounding tracks. Yeah, good luck.

Then of course, you have the monsters. Oh, they're fun. You start out with parasites which can be...you know...annoying, but they're also trying to infect you and turn you into- What the hell is THAT? They re-write people's DNA and force a mass amount of cell-growth through their bodies to change them into grotesque beings that still carry a around some fledgeling resemblance to people. It's like something exploded inside, yet the body holds together in this walking alien horror.

Lastly...and this is the part that gets me more than anything...it's your surroundings. The alien lifeforms overrunning the place are REALLY overrunning it. The walls, the floor, the ceiling... This base is being slowly consumed, and the game shows it. Areas begin to look more and more infected, fleshy... There are water puddles that try to reach out and grab you, because water makes it grow faster. Oh, and the worst part? It's eating people too! Never see it happen, but somehow the walls grab people and grow through them, killing the victim.

That's flipping haunting!!

As a small child, Sephiroth scared the living shit out of me.

In Kingdom Hearts, he still does.

Okay, it sounds almost embarrassingly sentimental, but any time I complete a good game I experience a haunting moment. It's like... the characters I've spent so much time with are done... their story is over and I'll never be able to experience it again the same way.

It's even worse (better?) if the ending is ambiguous. Like in Grim Fandango or Psthologic. Especially Grim Fandango, it was like saying goodbye after traveling with someone for four years. I will never forget Glottis. :[

Someone else mentioned S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and I agree. I am pretty much a fanboy of that game at this point. There are moments where you are just wandering and the loneliness is absolutely crushing. I can pinpoint the exact point where I fell in love with the Zone. I was walking along a road when it started to rain. It was eerily quiet; the only sounds I could hear were that of the raindrops and my own footsteps. I don't know why, but I wandered off of the road and into the woods. Suddenly, my I hear my PDA beeping. I had come across a small band of loners in the middle of nowhere. They were sitting around a campfire, telling stories and playing guitar in the rain. When I joined them, this strange feeling of relief came over me. These guys were nothing more than random NPCs, but finding their camp felt like sitting with a group of brothers. It was the most immersed I had ever been in my entire history of gaming. And all I did was sit there with them, listening to the guitar. When I looked up into the sky, I could almost feel the raindrops falling onto my face.

Like someone said. Ravenholm stuck with me for awhile. I don't know why but that level creeps me out and everytime I play through Half Life I always get shivers when you look down that blocked off hallway. At the same time though I get all nostalgic and don't want to leave by the time the level is coming to an end.

In all seriousness One of the endings from SH2 and the part in Saw on the ladder.

As a couple of other people have said, Mass Effect 2: Overlord. The ending is... disturbing.

Also, Ravenholm. Creeped me out both times I've played through it so far. The first time I played it, my little brother was watching (he's 11) and had a nightmare about it.

However, fear not! I have a recipe for removing all the fear from Ravenholm:
- Replace the zombie voice files with Stewie Griffin voice files
- Give yourself the super-gravgun (and try and use the pull function on Father Grigori every time you see him - the results are unexpected and hilarious)
- Turn the gravity down to 10 (Watch as the Headcrabs jump at you... and never come back down!)
- Turn Godmode on
- Do it while your friends are round, preferably

Behold! The funniest section in gaming!

When a skeleton appeared in my new mine in Minecraft. I almost had a heart attack and played the rest of the day hiding in the corner.

They cut Henry with meat cleavers. He was on the ground screaming in the middle of a park and they just kept on hacking, nobody even bothered to help. Definitely one of the most haunting moments in a game.
