How about lets protect people from violent content it will go over splendidly, no no it won't, at the end of the day same difference.
Nothing alike, humans still have a blood lust, it;s why we are always having wars, fights, sports revolving around boxing and why we get a kick out of painful fail vids.

Humans don't have a lust to see sexualized children. Unfortunately, child porn is a thing, why do we need to start putting into a form to consumed as entertainment?

No, I am not saying playing these games is like a gateway into watching child porn.

Is there something wrong with making them look 18? 20? 30? Why do they have to look like they have just become a teenager?
I didn't know fictional characters bled real blood.

Humans don't have to get a hard on over violence either yet we do everyday.

Mainly because its traditional to marry young and lust after youth, its somewhat magnified in Asian/Middle eastern cultures.

We been marrying off youth (13-16) for centuries for mainly short life span reasons a few decades of "protect teh children" will not change much. We've manage to give a reasonable level of protection to them but in the last decade we have gone to such extremes to label minors as sex offends. The whole "it offends make it a crime" mentality is destroying us slowly...

Don't get me wrong for the real pedos with one victim under the age of 10 put them under the jail with a firing squad, 13+ is more complicated due to homerooms being out of whack and 13 year olds looking like 16 year olds or older. Still the system allows repeat offenders to much leniency(a shame you can't put rapists on death row). But when it comes to fake stuff there should not be many limits on any media/medium.

To go back to why I originally quoted you, this is like taking the sex out of a porno. Is there is too much stuff like this out there easily accessible in certain shop taking things too far? Quite possibly, but doing this removes the main point of the game as far as I can tell from looking into it. Kinda seems a bit pointless since they sell the game with rubbing and pinching the girls to level them up as a core mechanic. I mean the revealing outfits seem like a main point of the game and not an after thought for sales.
TBH, I don't think that's an apt analogy nor do I think the main point of the game was taken away. A vast majority of the cards have remained unchanged (310 out of 350 cards), and the girls in the ones that were censored mostly look like they're between the ages of 5 and 13. They didn't change anything else, so the game is basically the same.

Regardless of the game, I will never try a censored game. End of story.

I made a pedantic point that was wholly off-topic to the discussion. I decided to delete it, but forgot this forum doesn't allow such things... please delete, should a mod see this. XD

I'm starting to wonder if Japan's suffering from a epidemic of sexual frustration due to its own social structure, especially on the male side, but nobody's willing to admit it...
Actually you kinda hit the target on this but are a little late on the realization the famed youtuber Gaijin Goombah already did a bit on the whole thing with Japan males having trouble hooking up with the ladies over there due to westernized behavior not being all that attractive thus an increasing number are turning to virtual ladies

Is it so bad to go off topic?

Ya but I am thinking more about 3-6 cases proven in court. Tho as much as child sex offenders need to be put under its hard to prove a case or 2. Pile on a few and there is no excuse.

Yes because censorship via economics is not censorship...
What's the alternative? Are you against Americans choosing what they want to buy?

The more we progress to do nothing the more we slide down a slippery path.Humans are quick to forget and quicker to condemn others and quicker still to think they can do nothing..
They seem quick to forget that this is nothing new and hasn't led to any more severe changes. They're quick to forget that the Nazis were a group whose attrocities were severe. So yeah, they are. But that doesn't help the argument here.

If there is any solid, peer-reviewed literature that explains why things like this are seen as acceptable in Japan, please do not hesitate to recommend it. Japan is obscured from my eyes and requires further understanding.
Why do you want peer reviewed literature? I minored in Japanese culture in undergrad (in the history dept) and could give you some perspective on the topic, but I don't happen to have any articles on the topic handy - most of what stuck with me I gained in one-on-one conversations with a professor who'd lived there for a decade or two and several over-seas students from Japan that I interviewed.

When I studied the sexual weirdness aspect of Japan, I mostly focused on their cultural interest in incest (which stems from Shintoism) and the cultural paradigm where sexuality is both repressed and obsessed over (similar to the Victorian period in England). That last item may be part of it - because Japan itself has a very sexually repressed society, their media tends to be more extreme - it acts as an outlet for the repressed sexuality. For comparison, the Victorian period in England was one of the most sexually repressed periods in England's history - and yet, it also produced more pornography than any previous period in England's history and started the practice of labeling and categorizing certain sexual acts. The American 1950s had a similar effect - America was even more repressed than normal, and yet pornography - particularly 'weird' pornography - produced in America increased.

When sex is more repressed in a society, people need more outlets and stronger outlets for their sexual urges. Hence more porn and weirder porn.

Anyway, that's one theory supported by historic examples.

As far as the loli thing? I have no idea about that in particular. It wasn't such... thing when I was in undergrad, so I never thought to ask about it.

Now, if you want to talk about the Japanese obsession with incest - that I can speak about with authority.

Edit: Edited for clarity.

Heh.. some people here have no clue what they are talking about

"CP is illegal!" Well no shit sherlock... (Even thought a bunch of naked fantasy humanoids that clearly dont exist in real life i would hardly call CP.. no matter how "cute" they look).

But know what else is illegal? Selling drugs, murdering people and robbing banks and stealing cars. Yet GTA was voted by some as game of the year 2013!

No one blows a casket when you rip someone out of his car, shoot him in the head and then use said car to drive donuts on his dead carcass, and then run over a granny with said car.

But damn you if you show skin on a fantasy creature that looks a bit to young.

Guess we should censor GTA next while we are at it.

But you know... aslong as censorship doesnt infringe on your prefered games its a-okay.

People that call for censorship of games like this should take a long hard look in the mirror and question themselves what activities that are clearly illegal in real life they have commited in some gaming world lately.

Just because it offends you personaly doesnt give you the right to demand that everything be bend to your tastes.

I've got too much self-respect to tacitly consent (via purchase) to an industry (the censorship industry) that consists of adults telling other adults what they ought and ought not to see.

I don't care what you've studied, who you've joined or what authority you represent; there is nobody anywhere who can ever know better than myself what I should and should not be exposed to.
So are you saying those people who like child porn or actual rape porn have a right to such content because only they know what they should be exposed to? If no, then you have made a hypocritical statement. If yes, then you have just advocated child porn and actual rape porn. I am completely disgusted by both so, as much as I don't like it on a personal level, I understand the importance of the censor.

And seeing some of the images... The girls I saw look like they are wayyyy to young, but that is the problem with this type of art style. Females who look 12 will be stated as being >400 years old and those who look 23 will be stated as being 15. What are you gonna do? My question is why not censor the game in a different way? Instead of gimping the "game's" biggest feature why not redesign those characters to look older? The loli content is censored, the feature remains intact, and everyone got something out of the deal.

I had seen or read somewhere (no, not Wikipedia :) ) that the AIDS crisis in the early 80's was one of the instigators for older men in Japan seeking affairs with much younger women. The idea being that the younger "school girls" were too young to have had many, if ANY, sexual partners yet and therefore were not as risky as going to a prostitute. Still rather sicko, though :/

The only difference between games before and games now is that it wasn't news before. So are you disturbed because it's "new," or because it was just brought to your attention?
The latter, I guess.

A full on sex scene wasn't what I was after though... I just like dating sim qualities integrated into games. It's half the reason I love Harvest Moon.

Is it bad that I'm more offended by those godawful text wipes in the trailer than anything brought up in this thread?

Nope.. it is the US. Insecure about its sexuality since ever!

(and nope i dont mean that every us citizen should like this kinda stuff, im talking about demanding that stuff like that seizes to exist or be changed to be more "acceptable")

As for the japanese...

A married man rather gets his "spear polished" in a bath house then actually talk about his kinks with his wife.

Thats the kind of country japan is... a wife is for managing the famaly not for having sex with.. what are people thinking? XD
