Facehuggers AvP (the original) if you guys say no then go out there, buy the game, buy a few spare pairs of underwear (not white) and play the USMC campaign and then tell me they aren't.

EDIT: although now I come to think of it the whole little sister / splicer thing is downright disturbing. And some of the medical braced opponents you come across in Shalebridge Cradle.

EDIT 2: thats Bioshock and Thief: deadly shadows respectively
The orphanage from deadly shadows (I think that's what you're talking about) was the only place in a video game that scared the shit out of me I mean damn.
I've also got to give props to the orphanage and the enemies within. Not only were they scary as hell and capable of killing you pretty much instantly, they were the only enemies that were completely impossible to incapacitate (if I remember correctly).

Man, that place was fucked up.

Not from a game, but the Silent Hill movie(which sucked),the scene with the lava babies, the sound that they made; to me, it was just horrific.
Idk, that skin ripping scene was pretty epic... even though Pyramid Head really had no reason to be in that movie...
Pyramid Head in the movie was just fan service. But on the subject of the movie, the nurse-things and the lava babies scared the crap out of me the first time i watched the movie.

Leapers in HL2. The first you see of them is when they're right in your face. A few shots and they're gone. And then a few seconds later, they're back.
Oh those gave me nightmares. On my first play-through I stopped playing for about three weeks after you first hear that wail and one comes running through the door.

Oh I'd also have to mention the Psy - creature - thing. I ACTUALLY fell out of my seat with fear.

Here's the culprit:

1) Those little children with knifes in SH 1
2) God SH 3
3) Armless tar people who spit acid in SH 2
4) EVERYTHING in condemned especially at the final boss.

Actually if I remember correctly 2 fire arrows took out the zombie things in the first part and the phantom nurses acted like regular human enemies. But damn was that place creepy and the narrator ghost girl made it that much more impressive. The whole going into patients and the living house was spooky as hell, the sad part is that for me that was the only well executed horror scene I've ever seen and it's not in a horror game. I guess stealth games lend themselves to that.
I wouldn't say that stealth games in general lend themselves to better executed horror, but that the Thief series itself does. Let's bear in mind that not only did the first two games feature horror elements in many spots much like the third, but the team behind the Thief series is very creative in their design and writing. This sort of this is their speciality ("this sort of thing" meaning "creating heavy atmospheres," if that's the best way to put it).

Legion, I think, from the Castlevania games. You know, the one that's a ball made up of the bodies of men. But wait, it gets better - sometimes, the bodies drop off and begin to attack you!

Ok then, steal games lend themselves to atmosphere (yes all of them it's just not used by most devs) and continuing the trend of off topic I <3 thief games.
Excellent point. Not many things add to the tension like a bunch of enemies you're not expected to be able to defeat.

Snorks, from STALKER. The first one you fight is pretty scary. Either that or the bloodsuckers.
I never got to the snorks yet, but the first bloodsucker made me scream, all I saw were 3 glowing things walking towards me.. and I was already freaked out from being shot at from every angle in an underground bunker.

Oh yeah, the Master from Fallout is pretty fucked up, and the way he talks only makes him more disturbing.

Adam the Clown from Dead Rising.
At this point he has the most fucked up and memorable death scene I have ever seen in a video game...

I don't know why, but that made me laugh.
OT: I think Splicers are creepy as hell, especially when they're singing little songs about Jesus and such.
