Everyone was telling me how Toy Story 3 made them cry out their eyeballs, only to have nothing that sad actually happen. I thought one of them would at least die! Man that film did nothing for me.

You want an emotional kids film? Try Iron Giant!

Also worth noting are Gran Torino and Million Dollar Baby. The latter bummed me out in a huge (but good) way. Also if anyones seen a korean film called The Host, it quite a sad yet sweet ending that contrasts to the tongue in cheek nature of the rest of the film.
I think the real kick comes from thease charachters...whom of your the target audience (I really really think it was aimed more at those whogrew up with toy story)

you know thease charachters, you love thease charachters youve seen them go through the highs and lows.....and now the end has finally come, thats some serious shit

watching them go through the torture of the younger kids its quite painful...and think about it, it shows how horrible a toys existance is (if they are sentinent)

and in the end SPOILERS

I mean seriously dont tell me you didnt think even for a split second (oh shit they going to die...this IS the end)

but I mean in the real end andy lets them go and essentially lets go of his childhood, and in a sense if your a specific age group (like me) you have also said goodbye to your childhood, and your saying goodbye to thease charachters and toy story as

The Green Mile when Michael Clarke Duncans character stars crying about being in the dark with the hood. Really upsets me everytime.

I remember tearing up in Glory when the soldiers managed pushed into the center of Fort Wagner, only cut to the scene of the cannon nozzle flaring up then fade to black. It was quite heart breaking to say at least for me. Oh Civil War...

A Hermit's Cave
The entirety of Grave of the Fireflies.

Especially the scene where Setsuko (in a deluded state) mentions meeting up with their mother, not knowing she's dead. While Seita is sobbing away, knowing that the cremated remains of their mother is in a box under his bed.

There are sooooooooooooo many other scenes, but this one stuck with me.

Ninja'd by OP and ninja'd by someone who already said that, lovely.
Gladiator's ending.
Hmm, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind too.

Requiem for a Dream didn't make me cry but it had some serious impact, the ending is just too disturbing.

Very true. So much so that I couldn't watch it through a second time in less than three sittings.

Spartacus - the tragic ending

I could go on forever... sadly a lot of you people haven't seen these classic films :(
That film was just plain, unadulterated sword-n-sandals depressing. The bit that will forever stick with me is when he shouts repeatedly 'I'm not an animal!' and you've got to wonder: he's really trying to convince himself, isn't he?

Citizen Kane - Where he destroys everything in the room, 70 years on it's still emotional
Spartacus - the tragic ending
12 Angry Men - when they all turn their backs
Chinatown - "Forget it Jake. It's Chinatown"
Once upon a time in the west - that poor ginger kid...

I could go on forever... sadly a lot of you people haven't seen these classic films :(
Citizen Kane, Spartacus (assuming you mean kirk douglas) and 12 Angry Men were all English assignments we were given at school. At least they were back in the day.

IMHO they stopped making truly great movies after about 1995.

How can you possibly say that? Have you never seen Dances with Wolves or Pocahantos? They copied a scene FRAME BY FRAME from a kids' Disney cartoon? How much lower can you go Hack Cameron?
I've seen both, and love both, and I agree, it was a shameless rip-off.

Being unoriginal doesn't stop the film from being totally awesome.
There is also a couple of other works credited to the story. One was an outer limits episode where they turn a human into an alien for infiltration purposes, and he assimilates too well. The other was "Call Me Joe" about a cripple loving being in an avatar body on another planet.

Romeo and Juliet is a story from ancient mythology. Its all been done before, the rest is just variations on a theme.

My vote: "The Black Marble". There is a scene where an eccentric cop is in bed with his lady partner reliving a horrible event that nearly dragged him into an emotional and spiritual abyss. If that scene doesn't bring tears to your eyes, you have no soul.

EDIT: Wow, gotta love youtube!!!

Start at 15 min. for this scene.

kinda like Rorschack trying to stay human.

For me it's
Killing the dog
Clint Eastwood sacrificing himself to save his neighbourhood and his new friends, although the reading of the will cheered me up, but then he sings a sad song about the car. Stop toying with me Clint D:

For me, it would be in Toy Story 2 when we're shown the flashback to Jessie's past. Damn, just... damn! And the music didn't help either...

Not to mention the parts in movies like "The Lion King" and "The Land Before Time" where the parent dies. (Does it count as a spoiler if everyone knows it?)

Also, "Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End" had some pretty sad bits, like when the protagonists see all the dead people in boats, including Elizabeth's father. Her breakdown is... heartwrenching, so say the least.

Then there's that bit in the climax where Davy Jones fatally stabs Will, in front of his new wife and fellow pirate. As both a romantic and an Orlando Bloom fangirl (yes, we still exist!), I could only watch the scene in quiet shock. He does get better... but at a pricey cost...)
