You thought Orange Box was a bad deal? I seriously don't even know what to say. It was an averaged priced game when it was released, contained one large single player game with 2 extra small chapters, one extremely well made (but short) puzzle game and an amazing online game.

Do you just not like FPS games at all? I still play TF2 regularly and often relive half-life 2 / portal from time to time (maybe once or twice a year).
I do like FPS's and you are quite narrow minded if your stance is 'this game or nothing'.

The Orange Box wasn't that great, over half of it was Half Life 2 (which lost me around about the point it forced me to sit through unnessercary dialogue because the developers were afraid that I might want something besides shooting in a shooting game), Portal was alright but playing it more than once was seemingly pointless since the challange and comedy value is lost once you've seen it and know what's going to happen/what you have to do.

And finally, TF2 is painfully limited compared to other online shooters and suffers from some painful balance issues (you try and tell me with a straight face that an entire team of engineers is even remotely fair or reasonable).
Like the other guy who also quoted this, I'm not quite sure why you dislike Half-Life.... Because it has a story? /confused .... Just think of all the "dialogue" as a cut scene.

And seriously TF2 may have lacked in content at first but with the class updates and the large amount of new maps that have been added (both official and fan created) it now has a lot of variety. Not to mention it is one of the most balanced multiplayer games out there, no matter what you happen to think.

Also, I never said "this game or nothing". I was just baffled that you thought Orange Box was a bad deal worthy of the title "Most expensive game that wasn't worth it", when it is seen as a great deal to many.

Far Cry 2.

Cost me about 50 US Dollars. That's 179 Malaysian Ringgit from where I come from. Worse all time investment. I can't even pawn this game off to someone either. Sigh.

Not when it only costs you 15$ :)

Love those 50% off steam deals. Eh it may not be a great game and it is pretty repetitive, but for 15$ I think I made off with a deal.

Assassins Creed, I got the Special edition for PS3 for 70 bucks which was the problem first off the special edition was nothing more than the game in a big tin case with a comic book on toilet paper, and a toy solider rendition of Altiar . And the PS3 ver of assassins creed had poor contrast and had massive framerate issues, my friend had the 360 version and rubbed it in my face.
What are you talking about? Assassin's Creed was awesome, and the graphics we better on the PS3. Try running on HD or something xP

I'd have to say the Special Edition of CoD: WAW. Extra canteen not worth the money.
This is my set up, I have HD covered:

It looked great on the PS3, yes, but it had far less contrast and ran at half the framerate of the 360 version, which made it harder to play. Unless they released an update recently that fixed it I wouldn't know, when my friend brought his 360 version over I was pretty unhappy with my version. I don't care what console it's on if it runs poorly it fits the forum topic, "Most expensive game that wasn't worth it"

Auto Assault and Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2. Auto Assault was not only overpriced (paid $60 for the special edition preorder) but was also a massive resource drain on my computer, and was really little more than a Mad Max reinterpretation of Earth and Beyond. Even on a good system the graphics were still shite. Of course, the game died out, and now my investment has been totally wasted.

As for CFS2, it was just a flaming pile of ass, and I'm very thankful that the nice people at Software Etc. let me trade it back in for Crimson Skies, a much better game.

Paid $70 for Empire: Total War only to finds its a buggy mess after having 3 grand campaigns die out on me. It's currently lying somewhere under my bed.

I've got such a limited budget and discerning tastes these days that the only regrettable purchases I've ever made seem to have come from the bargain bin. I think the biggest disappointment I've ever gotten from a $50 game was when Medieval 2 was merely "very good" and not "among the all-time greats". I expected more from Creative Assembly (although, to be fair, the Kingdoms x-pack was a home run.)

Chrono Trigger DS. Got for full price, played it once, and never touched it again.

And Mechassault 2 Limited edition. I bought it twice, and All I got was the box and the extra content, no game.

the new Fire Emblem. i liked the first 2 on the GBA, but this one felt empty. you get a bunch of characters with no story what so ever and they introduced to many characters in the beginning.

The Spore Galactic edition.
My brother and company got that for the normal price (store mix-up) and has since been installed on 8 different machines. For us it was worth it.

I bought The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay for $15. Little did I know the 360 couldn't run it.
I got Chronicles of Riddick free with what was really my last nVIDIA card (6200) admitidly it was a stand-in card I was ripped off on from PC World while I decided what decent gaming card to get next; but when it wouldn't even run Riddick (constant crashing back to desktop) I decided to try ATi again. Got myself a nice X1600 and it ran the game beautifully.

What's more is I was quite shocked that suck an awesome game was actually packaged with the video card, especially given most of the time games that are packaged with cards are basically for stock shifting technology demos rather than anything that is particularly enjoyable.

I'd strongly suggest you pick up a copy of Dark Athena when you can, yeah there's a whole new campaign but iirc the original Escape from Butcher Bay has been included as well. The storyline in it to be honest is well, forgetable to say the least; but the level design and gameplay is so creative that you'll really enjoy it.

Man, old video cards used to have AWESOME pack-ins. I had one that came with rainbow six (i didn't actually like the game but lots of people do) and Sacrifice, now THAT game was AWESOME.

Video card packs ins now a days suck. I bought an 8800 OC from BFG and all I got was a damn XXXL t-shirt that could fit a bloody gorilla along with the obligatory cables and TV-out stuff. I never wear the t-shirt ... well wear it in PUBLIC because I don't even think I would need to put pants on with it, it just looks ridiculous on me.

My main issue with HL's story is that they try too hard to have one (and still end up leaving me confused at the end of it due to poor delivery), in a good FPS the storyline and action should just work together well and be fairly self explanitory (the story shouldn't detract from the enjoyment of the gameplay or delay you unnessercarily) while HL's story feels forced and partially absent (most of the time I only had a vague idea as to what I was supposed to be doing and why I cared). The dialogue is nothing like most cutscenes since at least cut scenes often have the curtousy of being skippble for those of us who don't care of have seen them before.

Also, the 360 version (the one I have) doesn't have any add ons for TF2 as far as I'm aware, and even if it did I still wouldn't take back my statement since, they didn't come with the game (I judge most games purely on what is there when I buy it). About balance, it's balanced in theory (with one player as each class you have a very balanced team) but this balance and harmony falls apart in practice (I already gave you the example of the all engineer team).

Unreal Tournament 3. Played about 3 times, uninstalled.

Or

Need For Speed ProStreet...had nothing to do with street racing AT ALL and was a generally poor quality game.

Both bought brand new.
