Like others has had, Jurassic Bark has the saddest ending ever.

"Bad News" from How I Met Your Mother has a very heartbreaking ending that comes out of no where. Fun fact, there are numbers that keep appearing in the episode that count down from 50 to 1, the 1 appearing with the bad news.

Iroh's story in "Tales of Bah Sing Se" from Last Airbender. Holy balls.
Have to agree with you there. This and "Appa's Lost Days" were very emotional episodes IMO.

Most heartbreaking part of Scrubs? Season 9.

Okay, so Jurassic Bark is definitely one that tugs at the heart strings.

I figured I'd go a bit more subtle and suggest the episode 'Timeless Time' of One Foot in the Grave, not because it's incredibly sad but because it's a brilliant example of how genuine feeling can be woven into a comedy series in a subtle and understated way (I don't mind Scrubs and I have found it moving at times too, but there is NOTHING understated about the way that show handles emotion).

Anyway, 'Timeless Time' contains the only mention in the show ever of Victor and Margaret's son, who apparently died very young, many years previously, and it's a brief mention at that, but extremely poignant.

Half of the episodes of Scrubs are heartbreaking.

I have to agree with Futurama's "Jurassic Bark."

My nomination for most heartbreaking episode of a comedy series, however, would have to be an episode of Dead Like Me where- eh, I suppose I'll spoiler tag it, just in case.

A Reaper has to take a gay man, and his partner wants to die with him. The most heartbreaking line is: "I've gone to bed with that man for the last thirty years; I'm not going to bed alone tonight."

Don't know if I'd call Buffy comedy though... It's funny, but (especially towards the later seasons) it's also quite serious.
I was thinking this exact same thing. Joss Whedon is well known to switch from comedy to drama really quickly. Still, Buffy-wise, I'd have to say "The Body". Especially Anya's frustrated, in-tears speech about how she, as a 1140+ year old ex-demon, doesn't understand the(in her opinion) stupidity of human mortality. (I can't find a video of it)

Oh, also, in season 6, the end of "Seeing Red" and the beginning of "Villains". Tara. TARA. Damn you, Joss.

Yeah. One of the reasons I love his work, it's almost seamless.
Oh god, how did I forget Tara? It's been too long since I've seen the show, I'll have to borrow the dvds off my girlfriend again.
Haha, the captch was wheden. So close!

He...he didn't know that they were bad organs..but...but...it's not like...geez!

...geez...god dammit now I'm gonna bawl it out again...
.....I need a hug...please.
*hugs* *invites to hug Dr Cox*

This is the only episode of any TV series that has actually made me cry (and honestly, it's not all that hard to make me cry). The thing is, for a medical-comedy, Scrubs has a very high body count.

Don't think it can be bettered.

Seconded.

That was one of the moments that I really liked of Scrubs, actually.
Meh, I find Scrubs fairly corny, probably because it tries to yank your heart strings far too often. This scene goes to some extra lengths, but I stopped caring long ago. Probably because someone dies nearly every episode, and the death usually only gets 10 seconds of screentime during a montage. It just goes Death -> JD making some sappy truism -> doctors look around sad. Rince and repeat every episode. I find that it takes a lot of the drama when it gets treated in such an over-economical manner on a routine basis.

Compared to MASH, which has a huge body count, but still manages to handle the drama far better than Scrubs. MASH works because the surgery scenes are prolongued, devoid of cheesy mood music, and are a great deal more stark. Although the characters continue to tell jokes, they stop the laugh track, creating a contrasting sense of desperation and morbidness to the previous chirpy scenes.

MASH had about a hundred of them. But there's one in particular that everyone who's watched the show knows I'm referring to. "Abyssinia, Henry"

"Kenny Dies" from South Park S5 (the one where... well, Kenny dies)
I laughed my ass off to that one. I found it really funny how serious they were trying to be when he'd already died 50+ times before and no one cared.

As for my own: Community S1 Introduction to Film (I think) Where Abed makes a film about his life. The final film was so out of left field and so sad and touching it really struck a chord with me.
I felt really sorry for abed, beautiful episode :)

And as for that Futurama episode, I don't think there is anyone who hasn't cried to that. Another good Futurama one was the episode where Fry gets stung by a space bee and dies and Leela becomes heartbroken. Forgotten what it was called.

Well, aside from Jurassic Bark, which is some of the most cripplingly depressing bit of television ever, I'd have to say The Body, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. No movie, television show, or book has so accurately displayed that horrible feeling of loss following the death of a loved one. Even if you're not a Buffy fan, I encourage you to watch this episode. It's beautiful.
YES. Its a FANTASTIC piece of Television history, maybe the most fantastic part. It is so extremely heartbreaking. My hat is off to Joss Whedon...what a freaking genius.

The final episode of Garth Merenghi's Darkplace S1. Its the most hilarious thing in the history of telivision and it made me cry because you know theres not going to be any more.
