Its already been said, but Battletoads. My mum gave me this weeks before my birthday when I hurt myself and was in hysterics (I was young, give me a break) it wasn't actually until my birthday that I got the Mega Drive to play it on. What kind of demonic crevasse did this game claw its way out of? I don't have fond memories of a game that brutally punished me as a child. Also, CodWAW on Veteran, I swear to god, that game hates you and will pull all kinds of bullshitty tricks to kill you. Grenade spamming, infinite enemy respawns and team mates that will push your ass out of cover are a couple of its favorite tricks.

This. Beating that game requires encylopedic knowledge and a knack for not stepping on any of the hundreds of damned traps. Pure awesome.

Devil may cry 3 on dante must die was pretty tricky, also phantasy zone. I hated that game in the arcades......
But the hardest would be Mushinihime-sama (sorry if there's a typo), and YES I played it.
Only on hard though, not god mode....

Ninja Gaiden 1 for me, that game is fucking ridiculous with its difficulty. But Ninja Gaiden 2 wasn't that bad, I was able to beat it, not easily but I beat it. Ninja Gaiden 1 however I'm stuck at this part where I'm fighting Alma the great fiend and I have little health and nothing to heal with. I guess I could start over but I don't have the patience!

Infinite Undiscovery on Infinity difficulty is literally impossible - hitting enemies with 200 hp, 1 hp at a time whilst they can kill you near instantly is not fun!

Dracula 3 Path of the Dragon...

The puzzles are in fucking Latin and you need to be a special kind of crazy to figure out half of the non Latin puzzles.

Fracture is just stupid as your grenades do environmental changes while enemy grenades actually explode. Oh, and their guns actually work.

Touhou on Lunatic.
LOL I wanna be the guy is so ridiculously hard, just for the fact that you can randomly die for the most illigitimate reason

The hardest game I ever played was Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. This game was stupidly hard. Just an example, the opening scene you are trappped in a room with four zombies and a shotgun, however, the shotgun doesn't do anything but knock them down, to which they get up and continue to maul you. You have to die to go on... Really a very puzzly game and it only gets worse when you add in the Sanity factor, look it up on Wikipedia then see just how silly it is, especially on how you lose sanity

Battletoads and Ninja Gaiden are far too easy to put on this thread, everybody knows them and how hard they are. I've got a couple myself. First and foremost I say Ikaruga since part of the challenge is trying to get something other than a freaking C for your grade at the end of each stage!

Another really hard game is Resident Evil 1 while playing as Chris. Seriously, Chris gets @#$% for ammo and inventory space, and the shotgun is tougher to get since Barry doesn't save you like he does with Jill (you were almost a Jill Sandwich!). Seriously, Rebecca is $%&*in' useless.

Also, let's not forget the game that was pulled from Japanese arcades thanks to its difficulty, Gradius III. That game is unholy in its difficulty, This could be applied to any Gradius game, but Gradius III gets special recognition.

Halo 2 on Legendary. Anyone who says that they've beaten the entire game on Legendary is LYING. ONE GODDAMN NEEDLE TAKES OUT 1/3 OF YOUR HEALTH. And that's when you undoubtedly have about five other people shooting at you and doing MORE damage than that with each shot. The level Heretic is suicide. I couldn't even get to the Flood part, and I'm pretty good at killing NPCs and players before they can kill me.
