F-Zero GX.

seriously, how can a racing game so rediculously frustrating have so many good reviews?

It's less of a game and more of a self-torture device or something.

I hated MW2. Then again I hate all COD so perhaps I'm not being objective. Seriously though, Halo is totally not the brilliant series that everyone makes it out to be either.

GTA4.

At least the other overrated titles (Halo, Half-Life, Zelda etc.) have some redeeming qualities.
God DAMN I hated that game. All the weapons and violence of the other GTA games, half the humor, and more unnecessary moral dilemmas than you can shake a psychopath at.

Chrono Trigger, Team Fortress 2, Halo series, Half-Life series. Orcarina of Time

Dont get me wrong, those are alright games and all. Just not the greatest things ever. I personally enjoyed OoT very much and played it quite a few times but Twilight princess does everything OoT did but better. (Cept the wolf thing, but that just reminded me of becoming a bunny in the dark world from a link to the past so i honestly had no issues there)

I would have mentioned final fantasy 7 but there always seems to be more people bashing FF7 or listing it in these types of threads then saying its great so im going to give the poor game a break. I mean, it did a fantastic job of what it set out to do. Hundreds of hours of my life are gone to that game, unlocking everything I could, making insanely overpowered parties using the materia system which was about as deep and complex as you choose to make it. Unfortunately for it being a good game you also have the little gremlins running around with the rabid Cloud / Sephiroth fanboyism. That doesnt help its case.

Both Modern Warfare 1 and 2. Seriously, wtf is up with their popularity? Both are just generic FPSs that bring nothing new to the genre.

Sorry, you were saying?

As for me, I'd have to say... Halo 3.

Edit: And Final Fantasy 7. That game was fun and innovative to an extent, but god damnit people, it's not the Messiah of games.

Half Life 2, seriously I still haven't played through the first game but it is already quite boring, I mean seriously how can everyone be so attached to Gordan Freeman when he never talks or even does anything? Fuck even Master Chief appears in cutscenes and says SOMETHING, and yet everyone is rooting for some dickhead who everyone wouldn't even recognize if it weren't for the box art?

Final Fantasy VII.

I mean its good and all, but the praise it gets is like its the single greatest game in the history of games. I can find a better game in the same series. Several, in fact.
It goes...

1. FF X
2. FF IX
3. FF VII
4. FF VIII
5. FF XII

That's without counting the NES/SNES ones...and I'm willing to flip the order of 8 and 9. The reason FF VII gets so much praise it's because, as the first of them all, it sort of set the bar and is the standard others are measured with. And, yeah, being the first definitely makes it deserving of some credit, but I agree that others actually offer a better story, better gameplay, etc.

I will now begin dodging the oncoming hate bullets.
Thank you at least theres someone here I can agree with on the FF series...

OT: I would have to say the Halo series(*sarcasm*I know how original*sarcasm*) I remember playing the first one and thinking this will be forgotten within the year but then it turned into a series that is sub par across the board and in my opinion set the FPS genre behind a few years since before Halo it seemed FPS'( by that I mean the good ones for example Deus Ex and Half-Life) were starting to experiment with new game play mechanics(using problem solving and a little platforming like in Half Life, and mixing RPG, adventure, stealth, FPS and mystery elements like in Deus Ex) and story telling techniques (encompassing a first person story telling experience instead of a third person one like in Half Life or having a complex choice system that doesn't use morals to drive the story but instead lets the player perceive what is right and what is wrong by there own morals never being told what there doing is wrong or right and giving the player a great amount of freedom like in Deus Ex that could have become the future of the genre and then the commercial success of halo reared its ugly head and all of a sudden everyone was screaming lets be like halo to make a quick buck until recently when Bioshock, fallout3, and Mass Effect brought hybrid shooter/RPG games back into the lime light with there recent success and I'm a bit more optimistic about where the genre can go now.

You guys seem to think that I mean its bad.

I don't. By any means.

Overrated just means I think it was waaayyyy too over hyped. There were some major flaws I saw with it, but that by no means makes it bad. Quite the opposite. OoT is a wonderful game and one of my favs, I just think other Zelda's are better while most people think this is the best one.

MW2 is the obvious answer. Got way more money than it deserved, and way too many 'GOTY' awards even though it's grossly inferior and more bug ridden than CoD4 was.

Halo 3 would be my runner up. Mostly cause the hype machine made it unbareable, and half the campaign levels sucked.

Metal Gear Solid. The only good game in the franchise was #2
That's like saying the only good assassination was the Kennedy, or the only good president was Nixon.
I can understand it being overrated but #2 the best? Oh well your opinon.
