my first scare in video games was the floormasters in LoZ then the flood in the original halo and the posion head crab zombies in hl2 because i would go into a dark corridor looking for a lambda location and then a poison headcrab would take my health down to one and that hunched zombie could take an entire clip of double barrel pump shotgun

Bloodsuckers from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Hammer Haunts from Thief
The Cradle patients from Thief 3
Trigens from Far Cry
Gargs and Icthyosaurs from Half-Life 1
Hybrids from System Shock 2
And many, many more I can't remember

Allosaurs or Velociraptors from the original Carnivores. You'd be stalking a herbivore, getting ready for the killing shot, and suddenly you'd hear a handful of running footsteps and the carnivore had hit you. With putting so much concentration into stealth and pursuing, having something kill you from nowhere like that is nerve-racking.
Oh Jesus, I remember that. Probably my first video game scare ever (I was about 7 at the time)came when I was hunting parasaurolphus(sp?) on a beach, when out of no where an allosaur starts tearing my innards out. I didn't even hear it coming. I about had a heart attack.

I'd vote for every monster from the Suffering game, each one based off a form of execution. Well ok, the lethal injection guys were a bit silly. But damn, the buried alive and eaten alive made my skin crawl.

Fleeches from the Oddworld series...

They have long tongues that shoot out to haul themselves up ledges or EAT YOU ALIVE. They are very hard to escape and puzzles involving them are pant-wetting. Plus they make the most awful noises...

Pfft. Deathclaws? They aren't as scary if you have the Alien Blaster.

Not so much as "scary" so to speak, but I HATED Crimson Dragoons in OP:A.

Oh, and Sentry Bots scare the hell out of me if they are hostile.

I'd say the zombies from Oblivion, the monsters are not "scary". However... the dungeons you encounter them in are SICK!

Well, I can't think of a monster, but the Dunwich building in Fallout 3 has a very dark and creepy feel all over it.

spiders from Doom 3 with those inverted human heads, knarly dude. oh and if you remember playing it there are parts in it where if you stand still and turn the volume up and wait for awhile after you kill monster you begin to hear human cries for help just like on the start up screen Freaky man.

I don't really play many scary games, so the scariest thing I can think of is the chainsaw guy from RE5. He didn't scare me at first, but the next time you play through an encounter with him, turn up the volume. He does this creepy laugh thing oncee he's snuck up behind you that's really unsettling.
That whole being high segment in Fallout 3's Point Lookout was also creepy as hell. Not a monster/creature, I know, but it still deserves a mention.

The original flood on Halo CE used to scare me. In the later ones you can destroy the corpse, and with that goes all the fear, but in Halo CE you would leave a room of 'dead' flood knowing that at least 3 had got up and were following you into the next room, ready to screech in your face the very second you turn around.

Also the Crawling Hands on Zelda Ocarina of Time, the ones that drop from the ceiling. They haunted my childhood every time a shadow fell over me.

Facehuggers in AvP really freaked me out. They were very easy to kill, but first you had to spot them. If you failed, they jumped on your face with a scream that made you fall off the chair and then you died.

When I heard them I usually went berserk and shot everything at random till the clip was empty. Hated tose things. That`s why choosing Alien is so much better for your mental health. It makes YOU the goddamned monster.

Does Alma [http://blog.kirkebykvalitet.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/alma02.jpg] count as a monster? And I mean the Alma from F.E.A.R., the original.

F.E.A.R. 2 was just an awful version F.E.A.R., and not half as scary.

The Cyberdemons in Doom 1 & 2, the one in 3 was fucking lame.
They are followed closely by that bee in the room that had the dried bugs and fishing lures in Resident Evil.

In contrast my favourite random enemy in any videogame is the blue guys from Wolfenstien-3D.

Actually, not really one monster, but a scene in half life 2 episode 1, where you and Alyx are in a dark area and zombies keep coming out of everywhere, and you HAVE to light flares to see them which only last like 30 seconds. I turned off the game twice because that part was horrible. Also, the first time you see the Tentacle faced things in STALKER: SoC in the tunnel, that was also pretty bad.

EDIT: The tentacle things are bloodsuckers.

probly the first time you see the flood in halo cause you dont expect it or that little girl (alma) from FEAR 1 (#2 sucked). she cant hurt you but when your climbing down a ladder you sorta look down then look straight across the platform you were standing on (to get on the ladder) and shes right there in front of you guh

I still think its worse than Pyramid Head
Oh man, the worst thing was when if they saw you they only pointed at you and stood still until you got closer. They always gave me chills.

The victims in SH4, because they couldn't be killed. Granted, they could be stuck into the ground with a sword, but there were five swords and something like 19 victims.
