Pretty much any later boss battle in any Final Fantasy.

You spend an hour whitling down their health and then they hit you with an area of effect right near the end and down the entire party.

I'll stick to fighting bosses that don't cheat!

Most unfair fight for me... first boss in The Lost Odyssey, he has an attack that can one shot your entire group while they're still low level.

How about the tutorial boss in demons souls.

Just rushing through with no problems then this giant kills you in one hit.

Sets the tone pretty well.

Prinny, can I really be the Hero? last boss was nasty, not necessarily for cheap attacks, but how much HP he had, even on the easier difficulty setting, even knowing that the air slash does double damage if you are really close, and with how incredibly fast I could press that button, I only won with a few seconds left on the clock, and my arm hurt afterwards. And thats even without the bonus bosses!

If you really want an unfair fight, try being any generic enemy in any generic game vs. the player. Now THAT's unfair!

That Arena fight in Oblivion with the High Elf who has the Gray Aegis which gives the ************ 100% Resist magic.

So not only does this completely fuck over pure magic users (spells, staves, and effects from enchanted weapons have no effect on him), but it also makes him immune to poison...

[HEADING=1]WHAT THE FLYING FUCK!?[/HEADING]

So not only will any magic not work on him whatsoever, but SOMEHOW the shield also causes him to be immune to poison!? Why the fuck is that!!? Poisons are NOT magic!

So basically the only thing that can hurt this asshole is pure physical attacks...

TO PUT IT SIMPLY... if you are not a fighter or archer, YOU ARE FUCKED.

The only way I was even able to beat him is by using my pathetic Blade of Woe and summon my Dremora Lord to do all the fighting for me.

Let's talk about repetition in fighting games.

For the most part, my focus here is on Soul Calibur 3, which is where I became most aware of how freakin' ridiculous this is. A number of your opponents can be classified as unrealistic, bullshitty, and made of fail...because there are cases where they will use the exact same attack again and again for reasons that must be entirely due to faulty programming. This is a fighting game, where the beauty is in the elegance of the match as two opponents beat each other senseless. It is NOT clever in any way - for instance - when you get knocked over and the AI decides "I'm going to the exact same attack to hit you when you're down just to dick with you.". This is not an intuitive system. This is a bad AI.

After all, it's not physically possible for the character to keep doing that if this were a real battle with real people. And real people wouldn't do that either, because it's stupid. This was where the programmers got lazy and put in an If-Then statement to repeat, FOREVER. When that happens, it gets unfair because it's a reliance on the cheap to win instead of real skill. And when THAT happens, I feel more and more inclined to say "Fuck you, game. I'm cheating, then. NOW, who's the god, ya cheap bastard?". Because, last I checked, nobody liked skill-spammers, people who are one-trick pony fighters who never try some variation in attack. Buttons-mashers, we're cool with, but those? No.

So, cross-reference the irritation of skill-spammers with "AI Is A Crapshoot" and "The Computer Is A Cheating Bastard", and that's pretty much my entry right here on the unfair. You'll be happy to know that I don't see this too often in other games I like, but it's there...sometimes.

The final boss fight in Dragon Age: Origins. The fight itself wasn't hard. I was geared out the whazzoo and was a badass in general. No, I'm talking about when I beat the archdemon, I can not see the ending cinematic. Either video goes out, or sound goes out, or both. I have not been able to fix it. Because of this I have not finished and moved on to the expansion. I consider this a proxy victory by the archdemon because even though I killed him, he's still preventing me from finishing the game.

What is the most unfair fight you've had in a game. Ya know, where you look at what you have to face and just think "oh come on! this is fucking impossible and you know it game!"

Mine, or at least the one I can currently remember, is a fight with the Boss of the Brotherhood in Saints Row 2. On a small-ish roof. I only had a pistol (my machine gun ammo was embedded in the bodies of his 5 million henchman) and he had a fucking MINIGUN! Not to mention I was gaming on 'Hardcore' difficulty, and on that difficulty a round or two of pistol ammo can kill you so...yeah. Minigun-weilding tattoo badass versus skinny British guy with handgun. You do the math.

Fuck you Saints Row 2! If I didn't love you so damn much I'd walk out that door and NEVER come back!
King of Fighter's bosses in general. I stopped playing them because I never really earned the title of "King of Fighter's". There was no real question who the real King of Fighter's was, it was the boss. Although I can beat their bosses, I can't do it consistently, so I don't feel as if I really am the King of Fighter's in those games.

The Fight in the archives building in Bionic Commando (X360 remake) Your out numbered massively the air-dropped weapons are crap and theirs little room for advance swinging with the bionic arm that took me about 3-4 hours on commando difficulty - unrelentingly hard

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet:

Metal Gear Solid: Snake with a SOCOM and perhaps a few stun grenades versus an M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank. Luckily for Snake there are some grenades lying around that he can use.

Also:

Metal Gear Solid 2: Raiden versus a dozen Metal Gear Rays that come at him 3 at a time and just never seem to stop coming.
The MGS1 M1-Tank fight wasn't too unforgiving, as there was insane amounts for error (even on Normal). Also, if you've got a good arm, you can finish that boss in 2 grenade throws.

As for MGS2 during the Ray fight, each difficulty makes you fight more and more. Even on Normal on your first playthrough the fight seems a bit unfair, but give it a try on Extreme (or Euro-Extreme if you have Substance). You have to fight ALL 25 of them, with no rations more or less, and they attack much more relentlessly. Talk about unforgiving...
