Shinji from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Seriously fuck that guy, fucki that whole series, [HEADING=1]IT'S NOT DEEP IT'S FUCKING PRETENTIOUS![/HEADING]
Clever thing that occured to me: the philosophy seems pretentious because most of it is filtered to us by the understanding of a teenager.

Just a thought.

I think for me it's got to be a toss up between Naruto (and it's cast ingeneral) and probably L, the character doens't come across that smart as he does smug, much the same with light.
Let's jsut thank god a sentient super computer didn't get it's hands on that magical note book.

Orihime from bleach can go die in a hole the big titted worthless character who has done no good since the first few episodes. She is a liability. CUT HER LOOSE.

And I nearly dislike Ichigo as much for saving her all the time...

Oh yes that guy... I know what you mean. He was the reason I just couldn't finish Evangelion.
I disagree. He was human; that's what I like about him.
THIS. I knew his name would pop up in this thread straight away, but I really don't get why people complain about him so much, personally I can sympathize with him and after all the things he goes through in the anime I really think the way he acts and reacts is pretty much the same as most people would do in a similar situation, not like he had a really good life and was randomly depressed for no reason. Hell, Asuka spends the last part of the series in a goddamn coma from depression, but no-one complains about her...

(Although in the manga series Shinji is actually portrayed as a lot more forceful and a lot less "whiny" than he is in the anime series.)

Anyway I don't personally watch Bleach but I have a few friends that do on a regular basis and just from experiences with them I would have to say Orihime for sure, her "power" is truly fucking retarded and would fit in better with an anime like Strike Witches than in something that's supposed to be a "semi-serious" anime (actually, I take that back, Strike Witches is at least funny and entertaining). On top of that I swear I think her voice actor died halfway through recording and they just decided to re-use the line "Kurosaki-kun" for the rest of her lines through the entire godamn fucking anime! Yeah...

I was having trouble thinking of someone for a bit.

But Wrath from FMA. F*cking Wrath. A whiny little kid who seemed to beat up everyone else and refused to die. The one point I thought he was finally going to die (*SPOILER ALERT*) at the hands of Lust, he turns thing around from out of nowhere and kills her. Then Gluttony (My favourite character) goes all emo and stupid. F*cking Wrath...

...I also don't like Sasuke.

Actually, no, change that.
I hated all characters from that fucking anime. There's gotta be some sort of award for not having a single redeeming character in the entire show.

Also Sasuke from Naruto.

Orihime Inoue from Bleach. She was alright at first, but as the show went on she turned into a weak, pathetic character incapable of action, endangering the entire cast due to her uselessness. I don't just mean weak from a fighting perspective - it would be unfair to expect her to compete on that level - I mean that she is a weak person, personality wise. I have nothing but contempt for her.

My least favorite character was probably Shinji Ikari. I couldn't relate to him at all, and he seemed a bit of a pushover, honestly. Mental scars don't have to make you an impotent little *****.

You're not being sarcastic at all.

All the females, as they're typically one-dimensional, subservient carboard cut-outs. Created simply to pan to the basement dwelling males who long for women with no backbone and play to the imagination of confused weaboo females. I'm not calling anyone here that, it's just what they're designed to do.

Integra Hellsing would like a word with you.

Hmm, the main character's cousin from Elfen lied, Nyuu from Elfen lied, Misa from Death note, Absolutely everyone in Gantz...

There's also Ed from Cowboy Bebop, who people seem to inexplicably love, but I hate with an undying passion. Why doesn't she ever shut up?

The keyword here being "typically" (though I think "in certain genres" would better). While such Animé certainly exist (Misa from Death Note being an obvious - if modest - example), there are also quite a few Animé which feature no fanservice aspect at all (like Monster, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, and Slayers), and romantic Anime where the female protagonist is anything but what you suggest they're all pretty much like (Spice & Wolf).

Like all other genres, most of what's available is "meh" or even bad, and there are certainly a few recurring themes which aren't exactly the pinnacle of modernity, and I despise a fair bit of them, but to blindly call the entire medium "bad" (even if it was based on 70 % of all releases, which I'd think was the Hollywood quality fail rate as well) is hardly objective or fair.

So I think I'll let my Lilium sarcasm stand.

Mostly because she's a little girl, and little girls NEVER shut up.

For me it's Edward Alric from Full Metal Alchemist, I tried to like him as he was the main protagonist but he contradicts himself so many times and he seems to like someone one minute then turn into a completely different person and hate them the next. His irrational hatred and anger just doesn't make sense and sort of kills the immersion for me.
just after reading the title this is exactly the guy I thought of, he just never seems to let his brother do what he wants, hes a bit of a control freak
