I'd say the perk in the new COD that lets you see enemy explosives
It seems like whenever you use it there are no explosives, but the second you take it off you get blown up by a claymore or something

The shurikens in Ninja Gainden 2, you can throw fucking hundreds of the things and they hardly do any damage at all. They are only good for something to throw while your in the air and look more ninja like, but still, hardly any damage.
I completely disagree, yeah they may not do much damage, but they auto target the enemy. When someone is about to attack you, you throw a few stars, they slow down, and you dont get hit and get to destroy this enemy. Sure it isnt always useful, but it has its times when it has come in more than handy.

Well that was a contributive post/sarcasam I think the most useless item in a video game would be the blue shield thing that you can throw in Halo 3.Edit: And the companions in World of Warcraft.

Blast Shield in Modern Warfare 2?

Most things have their uses and there is always a situation where they are needed.
i love that thing. use it with a riot shield and you can withstand a javaline. (glithers fear me)
OP id say allies in halo

I don't think NPCs count as items.

I have Deus Ex... Through out the game you get tonnes of crap empty cardboard boxes and pieces of paper lying around. They don't do anything, get in your way occasionally (not part of the game) and provide no help to me at all. I love trashing them as fast as i see them. You also get useless animals such as rats and pigeons or fish around areas. I like killing them just to amuse myself when i have no tasks.

That eavesdrop perk in COD4
This. I've made classes with that perk because I thought I could hear the enemy yell reloading, grenade etc. I mean wtf, why doesn't it work like that? Would be useful.
No one ever voicechats in the PC version anywho.

Sniper rifle in L4D. Seriously. It's not even that effective xP.
Also double handed weapons in first Neverwinter Night's game. Dang it has awesome damage but what good it is if you CANT HIT WITH THE DAMN THING.

Splash.. not so much an item, but you all know what i mean

also

teammates in CoD, all they do is get shot, and occasionally kill an enemy, who will immediately respawn, all they do is get in the way

so many things in Morrowind: all the pots, spoons, plates, etc. They're actually really good for atmosphere and immersion, but beyond that, they're just things getting in the way of valuable things to steal.
