OT: The wood chipper or whatever it was in Fallout 3. It weighed a ton and did nothing, didn't even use it to make a weapon.
The Auto Axe? Erm....It's one of the best melee weapons in the game.....That or you could load the bottles into the Rock-It Launcher I think....

For me? The capes in AC2. What's the whole point in me avoiding notoriety in a city that I'll rarely come back to?

Deku Nuts. Played the games several times and still never needed them for anything. Pay money to upgrade my capacity? No thanks....

The hats in Dragon Age Origins. Their ugliness exceed their potential of defensive capabilities.

No, it isn't the auto axe. It is just some random box thing that I bought from someone. It weights like 30 and doesn't do anything. The Rock-It launcher was pretty cool, but I never really used it much, my weapons (guns, sword) did a lot more damage.

The submachinegun in Resident Evil 4.
Are you kidding? I love the SMG in RE4. Get the stock, upgrade it get, 200-300 bullets and then it's game time!
I always preferred an upgraded shotgun and the occasional mine dart
Now the mine darts! they were pointless, i'm on my 5th play through & only used them a few times.

That one balloon you have in your inventory through the whole of Monkey Island 3.

And all those rubbish "distracting items" in the Kyrandia series.

The Chainsaw

you know what i'm talking about
Isn't there another SCUMM game where you find the chainsaw fuel... but no chainsaw?

I'd have to say the thing your auntie gave you in the HHGTTG text game. You never find out what it is, and you lose it pretty much straight away. That, or Pyramid Heads sword in Silent Hill 2, he can kick arse with it because he's huge and hard as nails. James just has to drag it around really slowly because it's so heavy and takes so long to swing the beasties have got you before you've even lifted it.

Just about every 'ally' AI you get in.. anything. >_>

Oh, and the household products you get in TES, unless theres a mod that lets me kill people with spoons, brooms, and paint brushes, no thankies~ And i'm not about to look so, uselessness is there.

The underwater materia in FF7. It doubles the time you have to fight against an optional boss, but if you've gotten crazily high enough powered to beat him at all, you will beat him within the original time limit.

"Winds" in Guild Wars.

Enemies in the range have 15% to miss with ranged attacks!! WOW! Only 85 attacks out of 100 will hit! And only with bows and spears!

Oh, yeah, and enemies can kill the spirit that causes this effect.

I'm gonna have to say the shield power in Prototype. I have never used this ONCE, I prefer to use the armor attack then retreat if i have to in normal mode. It's just useless in my opinion.

Poison in Assassins creed 2, never ever ever used it
I didn't either until the end of the game when I was just having fun. It makes unarmed people hardcore dance...Seriously.

I say skulls in Oblivion - what do they do? Sure they can be used as a decoration or something, but they're pretty useless.

Horse armor. Though they do make your horse look like some kind of medieval equine rap star.
