Rap, for obvious reasons most likely stated above

And Death Metal, to me it is just senseless screaming into a microphone.

I generally dislike several varieties of rap/hip-hop and country. With the former I hate the bragging "gangsta" varieties about spinning rims, and the latter I hate more modern varieties that you can't escape if you live in the south or eat at steakhouses (let's just say I'm not a Tim McGraw fan).

What really inspires my wrath, however, is crunkcore. It's the worst aspects of rap (dumb lyrics, headache-inducing sounds) and metal (constant screaming) combined into one terrible genre.

Anyone who says they hate country music are saying they hate Johnny Cash.

Just putting that out there.

OT: I don't really hate any one genre, because I've found that if you dig enough, you will find the good in any one of them. For example, I didn't really like Hip-Hop, until I found things like Deltron 3030, BlackStar or Roots.

I hate metal. Sorry, but I can't stand it.
"Metal" is a very diverse term; it can refer to anything from Iron Maiden to Lamb of God.

OT: I really dislike pop, and hip-hop. I think that's about it in terms of specific genres, though the heavier forms of metal (death, and Norwegian black for example) are quite hard for me to like too, but there are exceptions.
It could also mean iron, steel, or....oh wrong kind of metal?

I HAET this new crap, im listening to tf2 songs, and seeing all sorts of '278 people like justin beiber' comments....

I don't like rap or hip-hop much. I'm more of a indie-rock girl.
What I really hate is techno remixes of Joy Division songs!!! ...argh

There is no need to state something that we have already agreed on.

Quality in music is not irrelevant.
Music is the composition of melody, rhythm and timbre. Already here some of the poorer genres of sound fall through.
Polyphony is vital. With no polyphony, all you get is simple music.
Poetry is also used in combination with music, this adds to the quality of the music.
Variation is very important.
Pardon me, but I have not yet found myself agreeing with you.

I do not think that music would need melody, timbre or rhythm as they are but three aspects of what music can consist of. I take it you do not hold musical projects which only work on one aspect in very high esteem? There are a lot of artists who do not care for polyphony or other aspects of music - be it rhythm, timbre or texture, melody (artists purely concentrating on pitch also exist) which, I dare say, are not very simple in either structure or production wise. I am not clear if you base your idea of quality springing from a combination of melody, timbre and rhythm. Which brings me to hip-hop: while it might lack in variation of texture, a lot of the attention goes to rhythm and melody. If you can't spot them then chances are you are not paying attention.

Variation is important, I do give you that - but I find it doesn't mean variation between instruments, as there are whole worlds of variation within every sound and instrument, which can constitute into intricate pieces. Whole worlds outside those three elements you mentioned, and I think many people ignore them completely. I do think that there is a lot to learn from pop music, however, there is a lot more in other kinds of music.

While poetry can add interest I find it is only a trend of adding such into a musical piece.

Clarification on the quality argument: qualities can exist in sound, quality does not. Preference is only a perception of quality.

Minor edit: I have no clarity as to whether you do or do not listen or attribute "quality" to rap, techno, modern pop and so on - after re-reading your initial post, I have become confused.

Adult Alternative, basically anything they play on soft rock stations that isn't the Beatles or CCR.
This.

At least really shitty genres such as crunkcore are hilarious and absurd to the point where they are entertaining. But Adult Alternative (or Adult Contemporary, as Wikipedia puts it), is just boring, soft crap that's marketed to adults that don't want something "too rowdy" for their tastes. It reminds me of that kind of middle aged man that used to be exciting and used to love music when he was younger, but suddenly just "grew out" of that phase and is now boring.

It's probably been posted here already but I can't be arsed to read all the blubber by the ignorant metalbrigade so I'll say it again; I don't necessarily hate ANY genre. I'm always open to the potential pearl artist or song, even if it's covered in truckloads of rotting oyster.

That being said, there are some, or rather quite a few genres I generally dislike and can't be arsed to look into myself for various reasons, not necessarily limited to the music itself. For instance the general type of people a certain genre attracts can be enough to keep me away from it. Metal would be the perfect example for that situation, I'm quite fond of a lot of the musical subgenres but honestly metalheads and their self-acclaimed 'openmindedness' (while they're generally anything but) just put me to fucking sleep.

Anyway here's the list;

-Anything by thirty-something-year-olds who dress up like depressed teenagers and continuously alternate between 'clean'(or rather autotuned) vocals and screaming.

-Anything you could hear in your average après-ski club.

-New wave hardstyle (ie a mass-misinterpretation of hardstyle fueled by the teenage jumpstyle hype).

-Dubstep.

-So called 'gangstah' rap made by Hollywood stars for ridiculous amounts of financial gain. I quite like hip-hop and rap in general and I really think that as a genre it has a lot of potential, but all this endless ranting about money, prostitutes and crime just shamelessly wastes it.

-Power metal.

-Most heavy metal (sure I can respect the classics to a certain degree but other than that it's not my cup of tea. Now take your ragged skinny jeans, get a haircut and begone).

-Most Norwegian 'true' black metal. Get a life, honestly. You guys sound like a broken vacuumcleaner.

The only good death metal is made by Dethklok
Your statement shows you have no idea what death metal is and you do not understand it.

Dethklok isnt death metal, its just metal with low vocals.
Seeing as text is oftentimes incapable of expressing tone of voice, I can't tell if your statement is pretentious or not.

And so I shall simply ask, what am I not getting?

I can't stand Metal. Not any of it, at all. Which is kind of awkward since my girlfriend is a heavy metal rocker chick. I like rap, when it's GOOD. Not the shallow mainstream bullshit they pump out today, but some of it is really deep.

I usually make exceptions for certain genres but it's been a while since I listened to anything mainstream or metal.
