I hope there's not that much music you like and others don't know about - surely you like to tell your friends about your favourite bands?

Hmm, just wondering how much of the music that people are posting is some form of metal.
(Which all sounds the same to me... *Raises flame shield* Except for Dragonforce. They friggin rule!) {Oh, and techno. That's all the same too.} Bit then, I am an old man. :D

For me I listen to stuff like The Mountain Goats, The Extra Glenns (Which is pretty much the same as TMG), Shihad, Moloko, Ben Lee, and i'm sure there's a few others.

However, I have a fair amount of Imogen Heap's songs on my mp3 player, and there are very few who even know who she is. :S
Hey I have an Imogen Heap song :) Granted it came with a Narnia music CD, but she sounds very good.
May I ask... What song was that?
I'm glad at least someone else knows her. :p
It was Can't Take it In, from the Chronicles of Narnia original soundtrack :)

B.B. Evolution is the greatest song ever. I'm not sure how you came across it, but I was a fan of the online flash game "FFR" for a while, and that's how I found it. Fucking sweet. I'll have to admit though I'm not cool enough to know any of the other songs you sited =(
Well, several years ago I came across an insane flash video called "Michael Fantasy," [http://dagobah.biz/flash/michael_fantasy.swf] which had the sprite from Michael Jackson's Moonwalker game saving the world from Princess Toadstool's wrath. The song in the background is B.B. EVOLUTION. It took me FOREVER to find it after that, whenever I googled the name "B.B. EVOLUTION" I only ended up with stuff by B.B. King. Finally I found videos of people playing FFR to that song on YouTube, and in the comments somebody recommended searching AKHT in the MySpace music artist listings. And then I had it! :D

maybe your not listening to the wright metal there are lots of bands that sound very unique in metal such as anathema or opeth (two of my favorite bands) but not many people seem to like theese things all my friends listen to things like metallica, sonic sydicate, slipknot and so on

Not only do I know who she is, but I smoked a joint with her when she rolled through my city a while back. I LOVE small music venues!
Of course, it's hard to tell when people are lying on the internet...
But just let me say: If you're telling the truth (and even though I don't smoke :p ), I envy you so much right now.
:D
I agree that my post sounds suspicious, but among the many things I do for a living is working as a freelance stage technician through several different companies and the entertainment union IATSE (Interational Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees) so I get to work at a lot of concerts and movie sets.

This was one of the EXTREMELY RARE cases where I got to talk to the band and as usual they asked local crew (me) where they could find some doobage and being me I of course had some.

I should clarify that is wasn't just me and her smoking up, there were a lot of people there so I'm not that special, just lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

I'm in the UK, and not many people seem to have heard of Blues Traveler, Danny Gatton, Cake, Black Crowes or Matthias Eklundh.

I'm also a big fan of Guthrie Govan & the Erotic Cakes/Fellowship of Funk. Now that Guthrie has teamed up with Dizzee Rascal, I hope that more people will get into his stuff.

Same with Bumblefoot. He may be known to most people as Slash's/Buckethead's replacement guitarist in G'n'R, but he's also got a huge, diverse and amazing back catalogue of his own tunes.

My contribution to the topic would be:

Stan Ridgway (of Wall of Voodoo "fame")
Danielle Dax
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry
Pigface,
PIG/Raymond Watts
Lydia Lunch
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult
Space

Red Lorry Yellow Lorry: Post punky goth types! Talk about the weather was a good album.
Pigface: Industrial Collective!
Lydia Lunch: She were in Teenage Jesus and the Jerks!
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult: sleazy Industrial dance metal!
Space: I'm assuming these are the ambient guys?
Curses!

All correct apart from Space. I was talking about the britpop-y guys!

Scale the Summit is my new favorite instrumental band, I think they're considered progressive metal.

Also, anything mathcore that I actually know. Dillinger Escape Plan for a more popular example of the genre.

the band Blackmore's Night

Everytime I ask someone if they listen to their music they stare at me like I sopke an alien language.
I know who they are I love "Ghost of a rose" it's a really sad song but really cute at the same time now I'm going to go chug some beers and lift weights so i can feel manly again.

Anyway I listen to a band called Masterplan No one i know has any idea who they are same with kamelot they played here and i think there were only 5 Irish people in the crowd everyone else was Austrian.

Not many of my friends know of Scatman John, but the internet seems to.

I probably know a few more country singers than people might want me to. What can I say? I was raised on it.
He was a god among men and he went before his time.

Where do you live? If there's an IATSE chapter near you I can help you out with that. Its hard work and the furthest thing from glamorous but its a hell of a lot of fun and you (almost always) get to see the show from backstage/stage left.

The pay is awesome, you get fed if you're there for the entire day (You eat the same food as the roadies do, and that's not a bad thing) and 9 out of 10 times there's a "Local Crew" Tour shirt in it for you, and you can't buy those.

If you're over 18 and think you can handle it, send me a message on here and I'll get you started on what you need to know, what you need to bring and what certifications you need to get. It'll cost you a little bit of money for equipment and training (First aid, etc.) but you make it all back your first day on the job.

Thanks, but atm I live in a rural city in Victoria, Australia.
Plus, I'll be moving soon (about 3 weeks), and then next year, I'm heading to uni...
But once I've settled down again... Sure. It's actually, definitely, an option :D

Thanks for the advice. :)

EDIT: Incidentally, our newest housemate happens to enjoy smoking weed, so I want to try and find out what music she listens to, if any, when high. Mainly because it's one of my goals to at some point before I hit 21 (so a year and three quarters) to sit smoking weed with a bunch of friends listening to some good stoner music ;D.

Mystic roots, Bob marley, Ben harper, Grateful Dead are the four bands that feature most prominently on my "getting high" playlist...
