Don't worry guys. It's Texas, they're not real people.
they are people prick. just very very stupid people.
Wow, so you quote me, then insult me for being obviously sarcastically condescending to Texas. Then you directly insult them yourself?

Forgive me if I don't understand your goal here...
They are stupid for the most part but they are people. I may be intolerant but I'm not hitler.
That may be so. However this still doesn't explain the complete overlook of the sarcasm, the unprovoked insult, you comparing me to Hitler, or YOUR very SERIOUS prejudiced attitude on the matter.

Why couldn't you have just been a good sport like this guy?

I love how everyone responds to this horrible story, acting as if Texas always does this sort of thing, as if it couldn't possibly happen anywhere else besides that horrible, mindless, disgusting, southern, racist, religious trash-pit that is Texas. Next time something horrible happens in another country/state, I expect you all to be jumping up saying everyone in that place is subhuman and disgusting as well.

I expected better than these kind of hateful, stereotypical comments from the "fair, and open-minded" community of the Escapist.

Texas, proving once again that it's where the American sense of culture and justice goes to die.
Yeah cause its defiantly the state's fault not the schools. Just the whooooole state's fault.

They are people like you an me.
Can no one take a joke? Can no one appreciate sarcasm? Did you not read the conversation I had with the other guy?

Fine, because of all the complainers I will edit my original post to include "/sarcasm".

Hold on a second... if he is a known rapist, then why is he even still on the team? That whole story is messed up...
If you read, it says he pleaded to a lesser charge of assault. Besides, he's still techniquelly a kid so, he has to go to school. And he paid his dues (for the crime he admitted to).

Ah, Texas.

You've produced the worst President we've ever had, and now this.

I love all the other Americans' responses. I think Texas's new motto should be - "The State the other States are embarrassed about."

Though, tbh, I hear that Alabama is just as bad. There was a big fuss a few months ago because the state education committee decided to re-write some history books. I forget if it was religiously or "patriotically" motivated, but it was bad.

The person pleaded guilty and should have been shot for RAPE alone with his two friends of all the damn crimes. Or at least 30 years in jail.

Should I have been kicked outta school for mumbling the pledge of the allegiance for 3 years of my school life? I thought the damn thing was boring.

While I found the OP's link unsettling my faith in humanity remains unaffected.

Edit- I signed the petition and I have half a mind to call the school tomorrow and give them my 2c, then maybe call them a few more times after that.

The problem is that it's not just this instance.

There are a lot of things that Texas is rather hated for.

For one thing, I think a lot of people still blame Texas for Bush, fair or not.

Another is that they have the highest rate of capital punishment in the nation. Whereas the rest of the country is trying to do away with it, they're killing more and more people every year. That's a big issue.

Another, less viable reason is the image they give. Having known some people from Texas, I know they're not all bad, but, truth be told, I've known more redneck Texans than not (and I don't mean redneck like a Jeff Foxworthy joke, I mean the anti-anything not white-protestant, kind).

As other people have said, most of us Americans are angry because of the image that a lot of the news stories out of Texas give us. We're tired of being viewed as racist, bullies, especially after 8 years of Bush, but it's unlikely the rest of the world will take us seriously when we're saddled with people like the aforementioned school.

Though, it does give us a sense of how Muslims must feel about the antics of the terrorists.

^ This. Exactly this, word for word.

I live in Texas, and trust me, this shit would NOT go down where I live.

Alabama, on the other hand...
