If you want to get really obscure you do the Aroostook War.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aroostook_War

It was an actual war between the US and Canada (well technically British North America). And it wasn't so much as a war more angry lumberjacks trying to kill each other.

Cooking. It's a valuable life skill, and a lot of fun. Plus, people like people who feed them.
Definitely go for this one, cooking is awesome. Plus, whenever I meet someone who can cook, they're instantly more attractive to me.

Drawing, cheap and you can easily spend a couple hours on one picture or Hiking is quite good if you want to get fit. If money is not a problem then your list is infinite but those two barely cost anything. If you have the money then decide if you want to achieve anything out of your hobby; fitness, strength, focus, confidence to try to narrow the list.

This: http://arduino.cc/

Who knows, you might even create something useful for your home.

Some examples colleagues of mine made/are planning:
Remotely controlled power outlets in the whole house via Android phone (WLAN/radio combination)
Universal Remote via Android (centralised IR diodes, controlled via WLAN/Bluetooth)
automatic watering system for all house plants, using humidity sensors and electrically-controlled valves (and a tank instead of a direct tap connection, in case the system misjudges something)

I suggest coin collecting. Your days will pass in a blur.

There's always reading/writing stories.

Aside from there's always gaming.

Video games, I AM CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!

A great way to kill time is to watch (good) anime, read manga, or other shows like How I met your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, Lost, Dexter (Either laboratory or the killer one, both kick ass), Breaking Bad, Heroes, Prison Break etc.

...I should pay more attention to my studies and less to these goddamn time sinks...

Play Visual novels if you're into those. (Which highly doubt, 't was worth a shot though)

Or just go watch some movies.

Ah, yes...the Pork and Beans War.

May well have to get myself a uniform for that; it's a toss up between that and the Caroline Affair

Take up playing games, always a good option. something you can sink your time into like League of Legends or Skyrim (Depending on your preferred game).

You could try taking up juggling flaming chainsaws, I hear that's an exciting hobby.

If you want to get into VERY time consuming gaming try grand strategy (I recommend Europa Universalis 3), if you have cash to burn I recommend TCGs or tabletop gaming. If you have no money get a library card and never be board again.

Huh. Well, I recently picked up basket weaving. I tried to make a pencil holder, but it turned out like a small basket, instead. Feel free to call me a newb. But not noob. That's just insulting.
How about building a model ship? Or just go into a hobby store and look around. See what catches your interest.

If you feel a bit creative you could design and construct things, like making Chinese flying lanterns. And that is only the beginning! It's cheap too.
