So, I was reading this thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.198109-Poll-Komodo-Cake] and, being the easily distracted guy that I am, I immediately looked up komodo dragons on that wonderful compendium of knowledge that is Wikipedia. Here's what I found: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Komodo_dragon]
Its saliva is frequently blood-tinged, because its teeth are almost completely covered by gingival tissue that is naturally lacerated during feeding. This creates an ideal culture for the virulent bacteria that live in its mouth.... Copious amounts of red saliva that the Komodo dragons produce help to lubricate the food, but swallowing is still a long process (15-20 minutes to swallow a goat). Komodo dragons may attempt to speed up the process by ramming the carcass against a tree to force it down its throat, sometimes ramming so forcefully that the tree is knocked down.... Occasionally they consume humans and human corpses, digging up bodies from shallow graves. This habit of raiding graves caused the villagers of Komodo to move their graves from sandy to clay ground and pile rocks on top of them to deter the lizards.
Bolding is mine.
This merely reaffirmed my long-held belief that Komodo dragons are fucking terrifying and I never want to meet one that isn't behind some very stout steel bars. So, Escapists, my question to you: Which animal scares you the most and why?

Sharks scare me. I really don't like the idea of being ripped to shreds by them.

The things that dwell in the unexplored depths. Things beyond our reckoning; colossal waterbeasts, as big as six buses. They scare me.

Worms.

Not earthworms, they're benign and give me no reaction.

Everything else, especially if they come from the ocean or are parasitic in nature, give me serious, serious willies.

My worst feared animal is the crocodile as of now. I watched a show on how these Africaaners (South African Europeans)got their boat flipped by an angry hippo while they fishing on the most Crocodile infested river in Africa.

The guide swam to shore to go get help, but was attacked by a crocodile as he was just about to get out of the river >.<. Ironically the people who stood knee high on a sandbar in the middle of the river were fine through the whole ordeal.

I live in Florida and everyone talks about alligators, but they're not that aggressive at all; the only ones you have to watch out for a the large 10-12 foot ones, but that show made me paranoid as hell anway -_-

They were all rescued (even the guy who was attacked) and all survived.

I really hate Jellyfish. I have no idea why, I just really hate them. There's something about them that seems unwholesome. Ugh... good job I don't go to the coast too often.

hmm

Grizzley Bear, i would loathe to meet one in the wild, they will stalk humans and kill them, if one is bearing down on you not much you can do but try to bluff it off. none where i live, but probably the most powerful and largest predator in america.

Sharks, specifically tiger sharks and makko and great whites all of which will attack humans, tho great whites get a pass since they generally attack humans by accident, tiger sharks especially will eat anything they can catch and humans are very catchable.

if we include insects black widows would be high on my list. they like shoes and bedding and other nice little hiding places we humans have in abundance in our dwellings.

I'm an arachnophobic, so basically any kind of large and/or poisonous spider.
This. Except even the smallest one can freak me out if it startles me. Gonna just quietly leave the thread now before someone posts a pic of one. D=

Komodo dragons
I watched a documentary once that talked about them lying in wait below stairs of local tribe-huts that were build on platforms and snatching at the legs of people using them. A kid got lost and was discover below a house, dragged there and eaten. These things are vicious. I also saw Attenborough stand in front of a pack of them narrating, he's a legend.

As for me: Flying bugs. I dislike arachnoids but the idea of something being mobile and flying is even more terrifying.

Even ignoring the proliferate urban legends, the camel spider, or Solifugae, is one scary looking mamma jamma. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camel_spider
