So, I was reading this thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.198109-Poll-Komodo-Cake] and, being the easily distracted guy that I am, I immediately looked up komodo dragons on that wonderful compendium of knowledge that is Wikipedia. Here's what I found: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Komodo_dragon]
This merely reaffirmed my long-held belief that Komodo dragons are fucking terrifying and I never want to meet one that isn't behind some very stout steel bars. So, Escapists, my question to you: Which animal scares you the most and why?
Bolding is mine. Its saliva is frequently blood-tinged, because its teeth are almost completely covered by gingival tissue that is naturally lacerated during feeding. This creates an ideal culture for the virulent bacteria that live in its mouth.... Copious amounts of red saliva that the Komodo dragons produce help to lubricate the food, but swallowing is still a long process (15-20 minutes to swallow a goat). Komodo dragons may attempt to speed up the process by ramming the carcass against a tree to force it down its throat, sometimes ramming so forcefully that the tree is knocked down.... Occasionally they consume humans and human corpses, digging up bodies from shallow graves. This habit of raiding graves caused the villagers of Komodo to move their graves from sandy to clay ground and pile rocks on top of them to deter the lizards.
