While over marketing is a big turn off for me (IE the saw movies), it stands to reason that even with video games there's only so much story you can put into one game. If you create a good video game with deep characters, it stands to reason that it might take a few games to give the story justice.
Pointless sequels annoyme, and Over information is just as bad. A big flaw of over information was the game GrimGrimoire. Sure, the thing starts off as a rip off of Harry Potter, new kid who is out of place joins in at a school for teaching kids how to use magic. And while they switched the "houses" into styles of magic uses and those into five magic types instead of four ways of thinking, when the head master shows up with the name Gammel Dore, that was a particular face-palm for me.
Anyways, the game starts off as REALLY girly and everyone is cute, and getting along but things get cool and dark quick and my interest was peaked. Then came the twist and the threat of immanent destruction at the hands of a walking WMD (too soon?). A bell tolls you had to live the first four days of school over and over, each time the big bad happening and you reset to the beginning, but retaining all your previously gathered knowledge. The point of the game is to, of course, stop the bad from happening. And at the beginning it was fun trying to put together the information provided to you and get everyone's backstories and try to figure out what happened, who made it happen, and how to stop it. And each 4 day run through gave more information that cleared previous suspicious people and brought forward new ones... but it just kept happening. A couple of times i figured it was the end battle and the game would be over, but nope. gotta start all over and new information is presented. It got to the point to where i stopped carring. Oh and on top of that, It's an RTS game where the school is cut open longways, so you see all the different floors, you are given creatures that are strong against A type creatures but weak against C type creatures, its fun to learn who your facing, and what they like to use and plan accordingly, but once every Class of magic reveals their "dragon" creatures that are so fucking big they walk on the outside of the walls, Strategy takes a back seat. Oh and if you do plays this game and when you go all dragon whoop ass on a *****, you WILL be singing stephen Lynches "KILL A KITTEN"... TRUST ME
ANwyays, back on topic. My main issue is platform switching. It doesn't bother me so much that there are games exclusive to one console. Halo is on the Xbox etc. However what does bother me is when the games sequels and prequels are on different consoles. IE Kingdom Hearts. They keep releasing games on the DS and PSP, I don't have those and its stupid for me to get them when i have NO interest in any of the other games that those consoles offer.
