Not exactly a favorite but damn you can't help but dance listening to James Brown. So recently I've been looking around for good James Brown.

Also a local street jazz band, Motor City Street Band. Based in Michigan, they use a tuba player as opposed to a bass player and play all their songs memorized. Me and a few friends learn some of their songs to play at half time during the football games when our pep band takes a break :) You have to snap your fingers listening to some of the songs I have on a CD of theirs.

The last trumpet solo is actually a friend of mine from the pep band, who basically taught the songs to us and he's playing this on the spot with no prior rehearsals with his dad, who is the alto sax player and somewhat leader of the band.

Not a band I recently discovered, but they are my favorite band by far.

Coheed and Cambria. I can't go a day without listening to something of theirs.
My favorite song: The Crowing. Off of their second cd: In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3

Like it?

No?

The hell is wrong with you?

Gojira, probably the 2nd best band I have EVER found, their music is so amazing to me I cannot describe it in words. 1st best band I have ever found was Death, still love them. But Gojira are somethign else entirely, at first I just though they were going to be some generic metal band that people overhype, and holy shit was I proven wrong. Fans of extreme metal you are seriously doing yourself wrong by not checking them out. I have listened to them non stopp for about 6 months now, every day, love them. Even flew over seas to see them.

An another note, bought Porcupine Tree's latest album after glowing reviews, never heard them before, but I likey :)
This is the best music thread. I've been on a huge Porcupine Tree kick, as well.

Classic.

The Killers - started in September 2008, haven't stopped since.
See them live. They go for over two hours and every moment is amazing.

OT: I just discovered Elliott Smith and I can't stop listening to him. It's hopeless.

Oh, and the Beatles. Obviously I always thought they were good, but now I've discovered the deep stuff--the truly genius art that they made after they shut themselves in the studio. I can't believe the sheer level of creativity in those albums, musically and lyrically.

Amanda Palmer. Punk Cabaret at it's best, her album is genius and she's plays piano like a demon live.

I got taken to a gig of hers by a friend, was shocked and awed by her fantastic performance and friendliness with the audience. As a result, I now want to steal her away and marry her. The make her play at the wedding. I've been to so many gigs, and it was the first one where I was literally just stunned into silence.

Turned out I was about five feet away from Neil Gaiman as well. Which was cool.

Muse. They're the only good (IMO) band performing nowadays.
Really? I can think of several others: Foo Fighters, Street Sweeper Social Club, Disturbed, Rise Against, In Flames, Queens of the Stone Age, Protest the Hero...

OT- A Day to Remember. I heard one of their new songs (NJ Legion Iced Tea?) on the radio, and listened to their older stuff, as well as other stuff off of Homesick.
