If they didn't care what people thought of them

They wouldn't have announced anything.
Or perhaps they announced it to coordinate their movements?
They aren't Anonymous, the members of LulzSec know each other (Though probably in a Reservoir Dogs way) and coordinate privately, hence why you don't see any actual details of attacking beforehand publicly.
A valid point.

This thread was meant to warn anyone here who has a Bethesda account to atleast change your password as soon as you get this news. Hopefully no personal information or the passwords were compromised but its best not to take the risk waiting on Bethesda to tell you what they got or see it posted publicly by LulzSec.

This thread should be stickied until a proper news source or Bethesda makes an announcement themselves. If it is not stickied please feel free to carry on with the random bs arguing, flaming of LulzSec, and whatever else as long as the topic stays on the front page so more Escapist members who may have a Bethesda account gets the news.

Thank you for your cooperation Escapists.

What do they want with Brink? It's Steam based. They aren't going to get any user details out of it.

are u ....???(not gonna say because i ll getbanned

What the yiff would changing a password do??? They enter the servers database and decrypt all the information including ur adresses, credit card, password, username. They see where ur password in stored in other words so you CANT DO A THING TO PREVENT THAT!
But if someone uses the same password for other, more important stuff they can change the password for those accounts, or change the Bethesda password to something new so that lulzsec only have the password for the person's Bethesda account, nothing more.

OT: These guys are massive dicks. Luckily, pretty sure I don't have a Bethesda account. If I do, it's very old and so it will be using one of my passwords I don't use anymore. Hopefully lulzsec get taken out soon though, this is getting ridiculous.

But I'm hoping that some real-world federal agents find them. Then they'd have to try and hack their way out of being some mean mofo's prison *****....

Interestingly enough, I notice they haven't hit on MS. I wonder if that's because MS has one of the stronger security walls, or if they don't particularly want to piss them off.

Either way, I think over the coming months Lulzsec will slowly find themselves ground down as companies upgrade their security.
Considering that MS sued someone for showing a stolen peice of tech. And that Bill Gates has enough money and resources to find and whack these guys...yeah I'd say that would be a bad idea.

Ah watching all those ppl flame and attack him... Makes me feel better

Brink was crap anyway, no recoil lolgame that tries to sell
Who's "him"?
Your opinion of a game in no way justifies this hack. I really don't understand why you'd believe it is.

I've noticed a fair amount of comments regarding Anonymous going up against Lulzsec, but really, what would they attack? Lulzsec could easily continue their work without their twitter feed, or any other form of public interface. They're calling cards are in their attacks.

There really isn't much either one of them can do about the other.

I am completely bored with their shenanigans and no longer give a crap, Unless for some reason they attack here, Mojang,or value (or actually manage to damage Nintendo's stuff)

Now why doesn't Anonymous attack them?

They are just black hats at this point.
Internet War One would start up if this happened.
That would definitely be a war we would all tell our grand kids about.

Damn! I was pretty apathetic to this whole hacking thing before, but now they've gone too far! I may not play Brink, but Bethesda is one of my favorite developers of all time.

Look 2 posts down from the one i quoted here.

Changing the password has a few basic affects.

1. Lulzsec or whomever they give the passwords out to will have no access to the account at Bethesda. stolen password is nullified until another hack.
2. If they used the same password for another website/service then they will know to change all those as well.

Forewarned is forearmed, better safe than sorry? a basic rule if a website you have an account with gets hacked imediatly change your password for that site, and if you used the same password at others you change them too before the accounts there gets compromised too.

basic first response to a data breach!

Aye and I guess password strength isn't an issue when the password db gets stolen, but I'll create a strong password like *0)l_3+be{|Oa to prevent guesses...

do strong passwords even work?

They don't want to destroy Sony. They want their lulz. They're bored of Sony, ONTO BRINK! Apparently.
Sounds about right to me. These people seriously need lives because all they're achieving by doing this is pissing people off. I hope they get caught really soon.
