Changing the password has a few basic affects.
1. Lulzsec or whomever they give the passwords out to will have no access to the account at Bethesda. stolen password is nullified until another hack.
2. If they used the same password for another website/service then they will know to change all those as well.
Forewarned is forearmed, better safe than sorry? a basic rule if a website you have an account with gets hacked imediatly change your password for that site, and if you used the same password at others you change them too before the accounts there gets compromised too.
