i like Nickelback saying that there are thousands of good bands out there, and yes there are loads of bands that i prefer to Nickelback, they are a solid band that has stayed loyal to their sound (which isnt a bad thing).

but before anyone else puts down negative comments about Nickelback being the best band of the decade you should think about who it could have been. would you prefer some emo band who's lead singer has not gone through puberty?(or at least sounds like it). or i don't know a pop rock group like jonas brothers.

They're not a bad band, and, even if they do have a couple of samey songs, they've actually got more musical sense than half of the bands in this thread. I partially agree with the award. Look at the amount of douchebags pissing themselves in this thread, then multiply that by the internet. Now start a band and try and get to the number of sales Nickelback have had and the popularity they have, with all that negative press. You've got to admit, it's a hell of a feat for a band that seemingly nobody likes.

I'm not saying they're my favourite band, and if it was just a 'musical talent' competition they shouldn't have won, but, still. Props.

I despise Nickleback.
If my wife and I are driving and listening to the radio, and Nickleback comes on, I immediately turn off the station. Even if there is nothing else to listen to and we have to drive in musical silence for the next 4 or 5 minutes, I will refuse to listen to that ass-clown band.

To name them band of the decade makes me sad strictly because it's based on sales.
Which means people, lots of people, actually buy that crap.

Fun 'At Home' Experiment:
Make your own Nickleback CD by following these instructions!

1) Take and record 4 guitar chords.
2) Record your tone-deaf uncle singing in the shower
3) Burn both recordings on a CD
4) Wipe your ass with that CD.

Congratulations! You've got your own Nickleback CD!
Wow, Tea. Bitter much?

You know, I am a bit.
As a Canadian who works in the radio industry, I get crappy Canadian bands shoved down my throat all the time, since the CRTC (Canadian version of the FCC) requires all radio stations to play a minimum amount of Canadian music as a way to promote the Canadian arts.
Nickleback just so happens to be the worst offender.
So yeah...I'm a little on the bitter side.

I don't like their new stuff, but their old stuff is brilliant. It went downhill from All The Right Reasons.

But I guess if it wasn't them, who would it have been?
It could have been much worse.

I know it's the fanboy in me, but my personal "band of the decade" would've gone to Mastodon. Formed late 1999, released four albums, all of which have received critical acclaim, and by 2009 they've played shows with Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, and the likes. They also rock.

Pretty much anything would've be better than Nickelback.
Absolutely this. Crack the Skye is my album of the decade.

Did a bad selection of band of the decade really take away your faith in humanity?

But I agree nickleback really is a bullshit choice it's because of that fuckin rockstar phenomenon I still haven't a clue what was so great about that song
its the same reason why things like RockBand and Guitar Hero caught on.

Every Nickelback song sounds the same...
The same could be said about a lot of bands.
If you've ever listened to Paramore's album "Riot", it's more like one big song than lots of separate ones.

I think Muse is the best band of the decade. And will be next decade. Muse are simply the best band in the world at the moment, I'm seeing them live in wembley next year. Im also seeing Nickelback live on the 17th of January, so I think they're good. They don't deserve game of the DECADE though
I agree. /thread. Muse are fucking awesome! :D

I'll start off with saying that I disagree with them being band of the decade. Basing that on sales is of course a way to give out that title, but if that were the case we might have the Twilight series as best series of the decade or some other thing like it, and I can't fucking have that.
Votes would have been better, but that's a little hard to organise and all that so they chose an easier method. One which is obviously flawed, but we can't do anything about. Should have just bought your music instead of pirating it.

That being said I would like to say that I don't think Nickelback are shit. Yes, their albums all sound pretty much the same and the band's not moving in any direction on the creative field, but apparently it works to make sales and when you make sales you obviously keep your fanbase happy. If that's what you've set out to do with your musical career then what the hell is the problem with that?

There are plenty of bands/singers I don't like listening to because of their musical styles. If I would lose my damn faith in humanity every time one of them won some award I would have to have killed myself out of depression a long time ago.

Keep your faith-in-humanity losing for relevant things like Bush having served a second term or Or grandparents buying "Gore and Chainsaw Splatter Massacre XIII" for their 5 year old grandson. Not on matters of musical taste.

Ya I'd have to vote for
Streetlight Manifesto
or Muse before the were absorbed and abused by ESPN.

In a way it's poetic irony. Generic safe music dictated to us by generic stale media.

just shows how crappy your generations music is...

sorry but its true, music nowadays sounds pretty watered down and generic.

although that said, i'm not closed to their being music i'd enjoy that was released recently, but its certainly well hidden from me
