Multiplayer paywalls shouldn't be a thing on any console.
Blame Micro$oft
If you continue reading, you'll see that I did blame Microsoft. But Sony, Nintendo and console players aren't free from blame.
Here's the thing.

The reason why they are payed services is for the service to get better.

You want to know why Xbox Live is considered the best Online Service ever? Why the multiplayer there is better than Sony's and Nintendo?

Because of the money. You think Microsoft is takig all that Xbox Live subscription money just to buy new Private Jets?

They are using that money also make the service even better.

Sony PS3 Online Service sucked initially because it was free, which is why they went the payed model because hosting "quality" online service for free was harder than they thought.
Then tell me, why do I get free cloud storage for my saves and free multiplayer on Steam, Origin and Uplay? The PS4's network apparently still has all the same problems that bugged me about the PS3's, such as not allowing you to change names, not allowing you to change regions and stability issues. The servers in my PS3 games weren't even run by Sony, so I don't see why they should be able to charge for the multiplayer. That's the way it is with almost all games. The developers and publishers run their own servers.

I play multiplayer games infrequently. What do I do with a subscription when I don't want to play online? Most of my games don't even have multiplayer. I want to be able to play my games at any time without worrying about using a subscription for its duration.
Because Steam is making money of a selling games on thier store, and thier using that money to make thier online service well and the fact that Steam is a leading Digiital Distribution center for games.

Valve makes so much money with Steam that they don't need an Online Subscription.
Dude, Sony and MS is making money the same exact way.

So, a bit of a mixed reaction.

Do you think it'll outsell the Wii U, at least?
Not a chance, at least the the WiiU launched with ONE original game ZombiU that was actually quite good. This system is sequel sequel rehash. Same games over and over and over and over again. Its a joke.

Never has there ever been such a piss-poor launch line of of games...ever. Even the PS3 launch had better games. I really dont get why people defend Nintendo when they underperform and screw people over so much with prices and specs. Cant someone explain it too me?

What is really so special about Zelda BOTW it actually looks like a HD PS2 game. I'm not hating, I just don't understand and I grew up with the Nes and Snes.

The art style is kinda ugly and I am not sure how I feel about an open world Zelda game. I guess we'll see.

I read somewhere (Reddit probably) that the Switch is getting Skyrim Last Gen Version instead of the remastered version on PS4 and Xbox One. Now if that's true, it gives you an idea of the capabilities of the Switch. I think $300 is too much compared to it's competition. Honestly, the Wii U could have handled the original version of Skyrim. Oh and 32 GB of storage? Not sure why people are defending the price and specs. Even the accessories are overpriced, $70 for a Pro controller? $80 for those Joy Cons and I think I heard that an extra dock is $90. Isn't the dock just an HDMI pass through and a charger?

So, from watching the announcements and followups, articles, and interviews, I don't know exactly what to think, mixed feelings would be the best way to describe it.

A kind of lackluster launch lineup, that's normal for consoles, but the tiny number is a bit concerning.

Battery life is kind of as good as you would expect for a console like that, not really great for a truly mobile use though, gonna have to bring battery backups if you want to bring the thing on a long plane flight

The storage capacity sounds like an inconvenience at best, or a disaster at worst. I am already running into issues with filling up my 1 Tb harddrive on my PS4 and Xbox, the Switch having a 32 gig storage capacity isn't even enough to store some single games today, I guess we can upgrade with micro SD cards, but that still puts you at around 200-250 gigs max storage, and that's going to run you an extra 100-200 dollars on top of what you are paying for the console. There's 500 gig micro SD cards coming out in June or July, but the companies are stating those are launching at around $1000, so yeah, fuck that, I'm not paying $1000 for half the storage capacity of my current consoles. Micro SD cards are also inferior to regular harddrives for load speeds, and tend to break down sooner in my experience, they develop write errors a lot faster than a mechanical harddrive or scaled up SSD. So it seems to heavily encourage buying physical copies of everything rather than utilizing a digital library, unless they launch one hell of a cloud system with their online service.

The paid online is a pain in the ass, I already pass Xbox gold and just stick with PS+ for my online console needs, their service sounds questionable at best, only getting bonus games for one month rather than getting them for free like PS+, even then it sounds like old NES and SNES games I've likely already played. There's also the report that their voice chat is a friggin phone app, so not even native to the console itself. I would imagine it synchs with the console through bluetooth or something so you can get the game audio too, if not then its officially worthless and makes me want to pay for online services through them even less.

Lastly, before this gets too long, the price of accessories, the lan stuff is cool with multiple consoles, but the controllers are friggen expensive, the pro controller costing more than the regular controllers for the other consoles. an extra docking station is $90.

Overall, I really don't see this being the next Wii, sales and popularity wise, maybe not DOA, but I will honestly be surprised if the console beats the sales of the WiiU by any significant margin.

I have to admit I'm not exactly wildly excited about the Switch.

I'm not surprised by the lower specs but that's fine - I'm pretty sure Nintendo are aware that they won't be attracting the biggest AAA titles or developers and so we'll see a bigger focus on first-party development with some third-party stuff, much like the Wii and Wii U. In the end the specs probably won't be an issue for the first-party games and while some third-party games might run poorly on the Switch, I suspect most consumers will primarily be buying the Switch for the Nintendo staples, again just like with the Wii and Wii U.

I do wish its USP wasn't there to blur the distinction between handheld and home consoles - for one, it might well create a marketing/identity issue for the Switch with consumers and developers unsure of what it's best suited for and for two, most of my up-to-date gaming is done on handhelds and I rather like the fact that the 3DS and its games are affordable but if focus is changing over to the Switch as a hybrid handheld/home console I worry that the 3DS will be phased out sooner rather than later.

The base price for the Switch is pretty good but the peripherals are clearly where Nintendo and whoever is manufacturing them are hoping to see some major profit. The little Switch controllers are interesting from the standpoint of Nintendo's multiplayer ambitions but I reckon they look a bit uncomfortable to use sideways; the Pro controller is more what I prefer but they are looking kind of pricey.

Oh yeah, the paid online thing - so paid online looks to be a staple for consoles, which is a shame. Heard it's pretty cheap which would be a benefit (sort of) except Nintendo's online stuff is easily the worst out there. None of its online stores have been designed well or run well and we'll have to wait and see how well they can handle online gaming with consumers getting angry if their paid services aren't running well. Also, the free NES/SNES game thing is utter bollocks - that they're pushing one game (which is essentially just a ROM) a month is pathetic and that it's a rental is a real slap in the face.

And then there's the games. Breath of the Wild looks pretty cool, not gonna lie. I'm always up for a new Zelda game and this one looks pretty cool. Super Mario Odyssey looks naff - not sure who decided Mario should run around in the real world but it looks awful. Most of the other stuff is either rereleases or standard Nintendo stuff, though I am interested in the new Shin Megami Tensei game. The Ultra Street Fighter II reveal made me unreasonably annoyed though; as if that game hasn't been rereleased enough times since 1991.

You haven't even played The Last Guardian though. Its controls are physics-based, the same as in Shadow of the Colossus (another game you probably haven't played). It's not supposed to be a tight platformer, which I guess is what some critics were expecting.

Which call of duty? because the original absolutely I would consider a better game, it changed the FPS genre. MW1 also changed multiplayer shooters for its entire generation and beyond, couple with a good single player campaign, so I would also call that a better game than the last guardian. Looking at metacritic, most of the rest are hovering within a couple points of the Last Guardian, and the more modern lazy entries are sitting below or at the same score.

You said a game was inequivocally bad because of negative reviews.
When it was proven the majority of its reviews were positive, you said reviews meant nothing.
Which contradicts your first statement.

Do you see the contradiction?

YOU: The Last Guardian is bad because it has bad reviews.
NOT YOU: It has mostly good reviews.
(proof)
YOU: It's bad because COD is bad and that has good reviews.

"Logically" this translates as:

YOU: A is bad because it has B.
NOT YOU: It doesn't have B.
YOU: A is bad because it doesn't have B.

Do you see it yet?

All I have to do is quote you. Look, I'll even screencap it. I can't make this any more easy for you. A puppet show maybe.

positive reviews that have also been saying the game controls horribly. for example:

maybe you should actually listen to the actual words reviews say and not focus solely on the review scores

Missed the part where the TurboGrafx-16 was the start of the 16 bit generation for Nintendo, not the SNES. It'd be like claiming victory for the Xbox One S over the baseline PS4 instead of comparing the One S to the PS4 Pro. It's not a good comparison. Did Nintendo come out with a more powerful console later? Well, yeah, when the cost of technology made it feasible. Until the WiiU, every console Nintendo made was priced to make a profit, unlike Sony and Microsoft who're happy to sell consoles at a loss and make up the rest with licensing and games.

And yeah, the PS4 and the Xbox One releasing after the WiiU gave them a tech advantage, one Nintendo was willing to give up. Could they have released the GameCube or the N64 earlier? Yeah, if they were interested in direct power competition. They didn't because of cost. They don't play the power game.
