actually the thing i love about halo is that it jumps away from the endless sea of grey and browns and throws you head first into a world where you run around firing bright blue balls of energy into big monkeys with glowing green Armour, surrounded by other aliens that run around screaming their heads off, in summary good cus of pretty colors... and the fact that it throws emo reality out the window and just does what it always has.

ps show me a 'popular' fps from the last 5 years that does that... cmon i dare ya

Pretty sure I don't care how many people disagree with me.

Like I've said over and over again: I don't like it. If you do: good for you.
Yes, That's perfectly fine... but why come into a thread like this, where the title specifically asks for people who love Halo to respond, just to tell us you don't like it? I think that's called trolling. If you don't like it, you don't like it, that's fine. But shut up and leave those that do like it alone.

IMO, innovation isn't necessary for a game to be good. It helps, but it's not needed. If asked to identify something Halo innovated, I'd probably be at a loss. If asked to identify what elements make it so very fun, you could expect a long post.

Its not that halo is particularly inventive, its just the feel of the first Halo:CE on the PC that got me into it.

This is why I can't wait for reach to come out so that a few mates will play halo again... the amount of times on cod that I've spawned right under a fucking predator missile or with someone in a perfect place to snipe me in the head is unreal... and only yesterday i picked up a riot shield (why not?) and proceeded to start using it to absorb bullets from the dude in front of me... only for one of his bullets to hit the tiny section of exposed toe under the shield and instakill me. /ragequit
Yep, I never even bothered with MW 2. I knew to stay FAR away from that. Also, Halo is one of the few modern titles nowadays that celebrates and ENCOURAGES local multi-player. Hell, even local mixed with online multi-player. It's almost kind of old-school now. Name another shooter coming out that has 4 player split-screen?

Did you seriously say it was a new standard of FPS?

Them be fightin words you know. You're insulting every FPS made before Halo.
Not really because Halo: Combat Evolved gave us Limited weapons(you could only carry two at a time), regenerating health(in the form of your shield) and a button for to punch people instead of switching to your crowbar or whatever to do so. It was the first modern shooter.

But half life is still better.
Didn't Call of Duty have all those things already?

Unlike MW:2 when I play the multiplayer I actually have a ton of fun no matter how terribly I do. I don't get frustrated at it and it is on the whole an enjoyable experience.

Also FORGE!!!! That is possibly the funnest thing ever if you have a couple of friends to play it with you.

For me it's all about quality. Other shooters may do things well but the team at Bungie know how to make so many different things work perfectly. Not to mention Forge, Theater, Firefight, A great campaign, and Multiplayer people will play for years is done so professionally that I, and many others are amazed there's so much of it so well put together.

Bungie hasn't really been pushing innovation but the time they weren't spending on pushing the envelope was put into the things that really matters. Their games.

no, it also meant with the two analogs, turning the way we do in every fps now. body movements with left, head movements with right, as the default control settings.

The thing is that the game was a reference point for console shooters for almost 10 years. No matter how well they do things, it is ridiculous to believe noone (of the several games that tried) didn't do it better in that time.

You have to remember Halo: CE came out in 2001. That was nine years ago. FPSs were a lot different nine years ago.

The reason it was so influential was that it sold lots, and developers thought with simple logic, "I must copy it and my game will sell lots!"

Well out of all the popular FFS, its the only one which isn't realistic. Its set in the future which is why its the only one I actually enjoyed playing (I have played Halo and Halo 3). Plus the controls work and are easy to get the hang of.

It popularised fps on consoles, that's about all it did...

If you like it, that's cool, but it is(and always was)just generic sci-fi fair, fps games were already ahead on pc.
