I was disbelieving at first, but really I think Doug made the right decision. Better to quit the character before it gets too unbearable.

It's sad though, I've never seen another webshow on the internet that can produce so [http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m743ovMmZp1rnrnlj.gif] many [http://pinkie.ponychan.net/chan/files/src/134379951994.gif]epic [http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/177/127/131669217778.gif] reaction [http://i3.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/225/972/WHAT!.gif] faces [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKayLq1d5Bs].

I'm more happy than sad. The last year or so of reviews he's done were either boring or pretty bad. I'm glad he's stopping it all so that it can't get any worse. I just wish the damn anniversary movie wasn't so awful. I guess I'll say good-bye by watching his older videos.

First that whole deal with Spoony, now this. 2012 has been a baaad year for TGWTG.

I dunno about you guys, but the whole "internet reviewer" schtick actually hasn't been doing it for me lately. It's been real popular over the last 7 or so years, but now that "angry swearing reviews of games/movies/tv shows/music/anime/retro media" sort of genre has just slowly been dying off in interest for me. I think there needs to be a drastic change in formula for it to survive. Does anyone else get where I'm coming from with this?
YES! For the most part anyway. I think AVGN is still great. Ah crap, what will happen when he hangs up his glasses and nerd shirt?

Loved the NC, but I guess now is a good time to say goodbye. It never went to far downhill and you can only do so much with bad Nostalgia, their are only so many movies to review. Will miss it, but I hope the new character and vids will be good.

Oh good. I liked a lot of his early videos. As far as I can tell, he's a teensy bit younger than me, so things he remembered from his childhood, I remembered from my teenage years.

Lately, though, my reactions go more like "Nostalgia? Isn't that abomination fairly recent?"... and of course I've never seen it, and it was barely within the last decade. Unfortunately, his show only worked when you've seen the thing he's reviewing. Oh well, I'm old.

Glad they're moving on to something new... but... that announcement video... the ending splash screen... my ears are curled up in the corner crying and hugging their knees.

A good move overall it seems like he was hitting the bottom of the barrel for nostalgic films over the past 6 months

Hope it doesn't start a trend either. Yahtzee's been milking the same material for years now and I'd really hate to see him go because he's tired of making cock and ball jokes.
That probably won't happen. Doug Walker is his own boss, whereas Yahtzee is employed by The Escapist. Therefore Doug has the freedom to end his shows if he chooses, whereas Yahtzee is governed by his editors.

This is pretty bad...

First the Angry Video game nerd basically stops doing his thing and now no more Nostalgia critic? I am having a hard time finding enjoyable, entertaining things online, and the absence of these isn't helping. There are a few other ok things on thatguywiththeglasses.com, but none of them really update on a weekly scheduled, and I find a few of them to even be horrendously obnoxious. The nolstaga critic will be missed, even if some of his last reviews were kind of meh. That's probably the biggest reason why he stopped, he ran out of good source material.

This is highly likely because what drew most people to TGWTG was the Nostalgia Critic reviews, or just reviews in general. I, like many others, do not enjoy the anniversary specials because they're VERY meandering in their story-telling. If you watch To Boldly Flee in one sitting, your ass is likely to fall asleep, then the rest of you will too before it's over.
That...is very much just you, I watch the originals from time to time and I know quite a few who enjoyed them and own the DVD's; don't make your opinion universal, if they didn't do well they wouldn't put the effort into them.

When they?re not doing views, the Channel Awesome celebrities reveal their true selves: social-outcasts who struck it big by jumping on Doug Walker's curtails at the right time.
That is absurdly harsh for people you barely know, really harsh.

Was anyone else appalled to see Spoony in To Boldly Flee after he was apparently fired from Channel Awesome, especially with JesOtaku? The person he sexually harassed? IMHO that was very ignorant on Doug and Rob Walker's part.
Except Spoony linked the series on his own website, saying he was very proud of his part in it; the ignorance lies with you on that one.

Meh, I kind of stopped caring about TGWTG, in general, a long time ago.
The thing honestly became somewhat of a massive circle jerk and I really do think the whole internet critic thing has kind of run it's course. There really is an overabundance of movie/game critics out there, I actually applaud people who go off the beaten path, but I understand why people go into movies/games (bigger audience).

The guy has made a boatload of cash and he really isn't going to take that big of a financial loss, I mean with all the other critics on the site and him getting a cut, he is going to still be making a lot of money.

Slightly off topic: My only question now is: If the Nostalgia Critic could be considered the de-facto leader of the critics, who will lead them now?

My money's on Linkara!
I have to agree with you. I feel like either Linkara or Nostalgia Chick are going to start picking up the mantle until Doug gets back into the game with his new stuff.

OP- Really sad to see NC go. I've been following from the very beginning and NC was the reason I got into doing movies and such myself. Glad to see him cut before things went downhill, but still sad to see him go. Best of luck to Doug with his new material.

Have you tried Game Grumps? Egoraptor and JonTron are hilarious together, and there's at least one new video every day.

Back on-topic, I'm a bit sad to see NC go, but it's probably for the best. It's better to end a series while it's still good instead of running it into the ground.

To be honest, I kind of lost interest when he started dragging in guest reviewers on a regular basis. When I bring up a Nostalgia Critic video, it generally means I want to watch the Nostalgia Critic, not Phelous/Cinema Snob/Todd in the Shadows/etc.

you ever try Nostalga chick or Oancitizen? I know thats a little "fan-boy"-ish of me...but I find Nostalga chicks more subtle humour and more analytical aporach far more enjoyable..as I said the site doesnt really encourage you to stray out of your comfort zone

anyway he put a out a video in resposne to this and it sounds like he (and even the site) is moving onto bigger and better things...hell they bought a studio which means mabye stuff on a more professional level rather than peoples houses/rooms

I think we can mark this date on our calendars as the start of the downfall of That Guy With The Glasses, really.
my problem here is that your basing this entirely on your own tastes

NC hasnt really been good for a considerably long time I moved on to other shows (Todd in the shadows, Brows held high and IMO the best one on the site Nostalga Chick)

HOPE MOST OF HIS AMATEUR DRAMATICS AREN'T GONNA BE IN IT.
uhh those guys are other reveiwers who have their own shows (and one or two are actually better than nostalgia critic) yes it seems odd that when they pop into videos randomly if your not familiar/used to it (I blame that on the poor design of the site)...but they aren't there just for the sake of that

the cheesy acting is all part of it, again most of them aren't actors but online reviewers (both awful and great depending on who you ask)

Now that's big news. I think he's probably doing the right thing.

To be honest, I was always wondering when and how he would go about ending his series. It's not like someone's youtube vlog, where it can be stopped in a day.

Guess I'll switch to fulltime on Nostalgia Chick and Spoon...dammit! Time to open the roladex of reviewers. Who's the best?

Yes, I gathered they'd be reviewers of some kind, and it really matters not if they're better at reviewing (whatever the hell that's supposed to mean) than NC, the point is that they suck in all of the drama stuff. Oh you can claim they're not professional actors, well neither are NC (as far as I know) and the rest I mentioned as actually being good. And their problem isn't even that they suck at acting; it lies in the fact that they're not taking it seriously. When doing comedy one must not laugh or grin at they're own jokes when they're trying to say them, which is actually what every single one of them is doing. Also, there should be someone to tell them not to emote so much because it just looks silly. Not the funny kind of silly, mind, but the cringe-worthy kind of silly. There are a lot of problems I can list, but the main point is - NC's crew ought to hire some professionals. And I don't mean professional (and expensive as hell) actors, I mean people who are just willing to take their job seriously so as to not undermine the entire quality of whatever it is their making.

P.S. On the point that the cheesy acting is deliberate - SOMETIMES it is, and it's good to be, but most of the times - sorry, no, you owe that to their personal ineptitude.
