Well, in movies and TV at least, the violence isn't real, the nudity is. That's the difference when it comes to censorship. Real violence is even more taboo, especially deaths and whatnot

Really? How about some news segments from warzones where dead bodies can be seen from time to time?

Last year in my Current Events class we were watching a video that featured a guy beating an seal to death, about half the class laughed and cheered. 30 seconds later they show a picture of Adam and Eve, they voiced their dissapproval. So the answer is simple violence is good, nuditys bad. Ed good, Rocko bad.
What the hell? Who laughs at seeing a baby seal get beat down? That, to me, is a bad sign...

As for Adam and Eve, well, if they don't like the bible reference then that's one thing, but if it's something related to the nudity...

Where is this happening? South east USA?

Nudity is more acceptable in European cultures, where violence is more acceptable in America.

If this is strictly on influence of kids and young adults, they are much more likely to have sex and get a girl pregnant or get pregnant themselves rather than rob a bank or kill someone.
My examples were on M rated games, kids should not play those to begin with.
I think that goes without saying, but if our society (America) was more open about sex, I doubt we would have so many pregnant teenagers. All those abstinence programs and purity rings do is spread more ignorance. Fuck the Pope for arguing against the use of contraceptives while African villages are being wiped-out by AIDS.
And If a kid does go on a shooting rampage, it's sure as hell not because he picked that behavior from video games!
Now I'm all indignant. I'm gunna go read some old Stolen Pixels to cheer myself up.
I'm glad to see that there are in fact sensible americans. Again, no offense to other people.

So nudity in games is real but violence ingame isn't. Still remember a whole uproar on mass effect 2 being a porn game because it had a love-making scene.
No offence but this is a American thing (like making blood green or remove it completely in german release games).
Most funniest reference is the x-box game x-blades

European rating : 12
American rating : Mature

(terrible game btw)

Violence is everywhere. This guy on the Escapist had an excellent argument about exactly this.

You see violence everywhere. Fact. You also see violence everyday. Fact.
Of course it could be slightly less then 'everywhere' and 'everyone' but you get the point.

You don't see full frontal nudity in billboards, T.V. ads, School Hallways and etc. I wish .It's generally about Culture, violence is undoubtedly part of culture but nudity is not.

It's something we have to ease into. We survive on violence so it's taken as something more acceptable then nudity. After all, we didn't wear nothing to survive. We used violence.

I suppose it's all about 'protecting the children's minds'. I had no protection, and I turned out alright, now excuse me while I go scare little children by jumping from the shadows while wearing a Christopher Walken mask.

In all seriousness, it's up to the parents, they can buy their children what they like.

Just another view
watching life being created is worse then watching it be destroyed

I'd say because nudity is much more taboo than violence, since we experience violence everyday via wars, arguments etc.

" You know, sometimes I wish I did a little more with my life instead of hanging out in front of places selling weed and shit. Like, maybe be an animal doctor. Why not me? I like seals and shit. Or maybe an astronaut. Yeah. Like, be the first ************ to see a new galaxy, or find a new alien lifeform... and fuck it. And people'd be like, "There he goes. Homeboy fucked a Martian once."

Just name a point in a video game where nudity is omitted when it really needs to be there.
And this, no video game REALLY needs nudity, one of the reasons why i think duke nukem was so popular though is because it had it for all those kids who ... supposedly couldn't go out and find that porno
I gotta wonder how old you are, and if you watched Movie Bob's review of Heavy Metal. Duke Nukem 3D came out in Jan 1996, and while we were hitting the turning point at that time boobies were damn hard to find back then for any kid who wasn't bold enough to shoplift a nudy mag and/or didn't have a dad who bought them. This is something that kids over the past decade and a bit probably don't fully realize and take it for granted.

I'm going to make a comparison that I think touches upon the same issue. The movie version of The Lord of the Flies (1963) featured several scenes of young boys full nude. It was completely non-sexual in nature, and in fact demonstrated one of the main themes of the mind losing it's "civilized" state once society wasn't around. However, you would be hard-pressed to find a school which shows that movie alongside the book. Why? Because the people who are the most resistant to showing anything remotely, possibly sexualized are also the most vocal.

So now we're back to video games. You can't even have nudity in a non-sexual situation because the most-vocal and resistant part of society will put up a fuss about it. All nudity is seen as bad nudity, and even when it makes sense in a story (such as during as intimate scene) it gets blown out of proportion. BioWare suffered undeserved backlash for Mass Effect that was so strong that they self-censored games that came after it. Not only does it not make sense in the context of the game, it ruins the experience for mature players (who should really be the only ones able to access it).

We just need to get to the point where games can be put on the level of any other art form. Nudity was featured many times in ancient and Renaissance art, and most people have no problem with going to an art exhibit and seeing Madonna and Child by Artemisia Gentileschi (look it up). Once people get it through their heads that "M for Mature" means "intended for adults" and not "buy it for your child because they can't get it on their own and asked nicely" then maybe we'll make some progress.
