you're in the demo, you complain on how no one takes your username seriously.

Not only that but you are in fact, a small white kitten.

Even though I just recently saw this, I think this RPG is pretty good. Just make those trolls a little less healthy, I failed my first attempt as a custom character.

I downloaded the trial for RPG Maker VX a few days ago, I'm still tinkering with it to figure out how everything works though. I would apply to test if not for the fact that I'm already buried under heavy schoolwork (all AP and Honors classes will do that), not to mention my own pet RPG project, so I can't spare the time for extensive testing. However, I'm impressed by the professionalism you operate with, and I'd like to help in some way if I could. I'm a part-time writer, so I could help you with plots if need be, or I could just help brainstorm and bounce around ideas, if you need any assistance in that department. This sounds like a pretty ambitious project, and it sounds like you could use some help, so let me know if you think something like that would work out.

A few questions, would you be willing to give us any back story at all? I do mean anything, character names, world name(if not on earth), perhaps the local religion(if you thought that much into it). I would also like to re-ask how long this game will take to complete? I'm not asking for exacts here, just ballpark it for me.

Back story -
Should be explained in the demo, which is a little more fun watching it. The stuff you can't get from the demo. You live on a chain of islands, in your little village, enjoying all of the things that make being a child fun. You're called home for dinner, a call which you must answer. Later on, you take a quiz to pick your future job, and are met with tragedy shortly thereafter.

To give a little more detail, you'd have to look at some older posts. Fantasy setting, and I'm going to go to town with every stereotype and trope in gaming I can successfully make fun of. Including myself.

Character Name -
I have no clue. Seriously, you name your character, so I dunno what you choose. Even the default is blank. I personally use "Arc," since I play a male (Abby while I'm debugging the girl part).

World Name -
Oddly enough, I didn't bother with this detail. Your hometown doesn't even have a name. I'll need to fix that, I'll get back to you on that one.

Local Religion -
Several. Some follow a local cult, others follow the major religion, which is an off-shoot of Christianity with some elements of Buddhism. It's hard to describe briefly and simply, so wait for the full game to really get an idea.

How Long (Ballpark) -
Well, the prologue's bare-bones took about a half-month shorter than I was expecting. Meatloaf and I will be working with the side content for the prologue, including NPCs to populate the town, small quests to burn some extra gameplay time out of the demo, the maps for the non-story buildings, side dialog, and jokes.

That side stuff aside, I'm working a hell of a lot faster than I was expecting to. The only thing is after I finish an RPG, I waste a half-month to a full month working with just side stuff, and generally longer on side-projects that occur from my other side-projects. On top of that, I try to playtest the game three more times, including the side-projects. I have to try weird stuff, which means wasting a lot of non-gameplay-time as well as the full length of the game.

Tack onto that any difficulties I run into with a desired story-arc or idea. Sometimes, it doesn't pan out like I want it to, or at all. Then I have to play around with any idea I can think of until the event progresses, or I re-write the idea until I like it enough.

In short, any ballpark I make is subject to me being wrong about my ability and going faster than I expect, or getting caught up in snags and taking forever on something that I maybe had thought was simple. Although, I'd give it a couple of months before I even get any substantial gameplay done. I may turn it into an episodic game, just so you guys get some gameplay sooner. Although, by no means, expect this game to be done any time soon.

That being said, the demo should be done sooner than expected. With some luck, you can expect it within a few days to a week.

Sorry nuke, I phrased the length question wrong, I meant how long will the player be playing the game? Will I be spending 20 hours to enjoy the RPG or will it be more?

I actually like the names you've been using, you should consider setting those as the default.

I've been spending the past two weeks looking for an owl as a chipset. No one, at all, has a freakin' owl! No one! I certainly intend to put you in. Before I can do that, though, I need an owl. I'll probably have to do it myself. I freakin' hate pixel-by-pixel spriting. Ah well. And apologies, Decoy, you know you're my favorite Doctorpus, and the King of the Yetis.

I shouldn't have any problems on the writing front, as I'm a very practiced writer, and Meatloaf covers a lot of the slack that I miss. Between the pair of us, we get a lot of side-work and and story elements fixed, cleaned up, and made more proficient and efficient. As such, tagging another writer on, at least at this juncture, would be a little bit excessive.

If you're still up for it later, I may end up asking you to jump on as I get closer to the end, and start writing major side-quests, and minor events to be added throughout the game. As such, I'll probably need help then. For the main quest, though, I have my writing back covered pretty thoroughly. Sorry, but I'll keep you in mind.

Ultimately, I'm aiming for a 5-10 hour gameplay for the main quest, assuming you bum-rush it. I'll be trying to tack a lot of side-work in everywhere, as that is often my most favorite thing to program. I'll probably add length to the story as I get toward it, and maybe even manage a 24-36 hour epic quest. Realistically, it will probably be 15 hours if I can summon up the nerve to even go that high.

Side content will hopefully add about 5 hours to the gameplay experience, especially if you hunt around for it. I've never been a fan of optional bosses (like the Weapons in FF VII), so most of my side content it very focused on mini-games, equipment quests, helping the various towns-people.

Also, I'll have plenty of side-quests, which are stand-alone 15 minute to an hour quests that do not progress the main plot, but provide the player with side content to do. These quests will often have their own dungeons and bosses (although they're not crazy challenging like the usual set of post-game bosses you find). Also, because the game has two genders, and three jobs, you can play through the game six times and find different parts of the major quest, almost completely different side content, and entirely new dialog trees, missions, and quests, even between playing Job A Male and Job A Female. I'm trying my best to keep it fairly diverse.

So, with some luck... 10-15 hours per story, 6 different characters to try, and 5 hours of sub-quest per character means...
90 to 120 hours of gameplay, if you're a 100% kinda guy, which I'm usually not.

Hope that clears that up.

Sooner than expected indeed!

There may still be one or two hiccups, but for the most part, this is the cleanest, fullest version of the prologue. Note, that after the screen goes while, the prologue is over. I just forgot to call to the title screen. To do that personally, just from F12.

Pretty good starting demo, although I was stuck at the part where you have to run away from the guards until I figured out that shift was the run button, you should include a small read me file that explains the control layout.

Nice demo. Good way to get you into the story, and I'm curious to see how it plays out. Only comment I have is that the sign seemed out of place. I know it's intended to be a comedic game, but throughout the whole prologue most everything else takes itself seriously, aside from the random sign. Kind of broke the experience very slightly, although I know most people won't care about it.

a few questions and a suggestion;

#1 What kind of class is phychomancer (I answered middle, top, top, bottom and top)? all my answers except for the first were thief like qualities, I was expecting a thief as my class. perhaps you could elaborate on the phychomancers abilities because I have no idea what a phychomancer would do.

#2 What's Borealis? it appears in the top left of the game window but I cant find any connection to the game.

#3 Why is your characters attack so ridiculous looking for his weapon? He's using a stick not a machine gun.

#4 if Flanders is going to be a character in every town(i assume he's a merchant of some kind), you should have a side quest involving a feud between him and a rival merchant Wally (Flanders, Walloon/Wally, get it!)

Despite my complaints I thought it was a good demo. I'm waiting Anxiously for the game itself.

Really? Because the warehouse with the Invaluable Chest and the fact that the worst storm in the village's history happens in the same tragic time as the invading army. Oh, and that you're saved by a mysterious masked man. Or perhaps that the stereo-tropes going on all over the place aren't obvious, or that you can kill an old man by feeding him poison... I did put a lot of silly in there, it's just no always visible. Also, big thanks to Meatloaf for helping me out, compounding the silly, and generally making this a more pleasant experience. As well as helping me out with some level design tips. Big round of applause for him.

I do keep a decent tone of serious, but I try to get silly often, and that sign is just part of it. Also, keep an eye out for Wilson in the demo. When you see him, start poking around at stuff that doesn't look interactive. You'll find the first in a long list of cameos for this game. Which, I promise, will include, at the very least, everyone on my friend list.

1.
Read all about the classes here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/jump/9.77100.938388].

2.
Borealis. Latin for "North" or "North Wind" (depending on context). Has a lot to do with the game content later on. The prologue will actually reveal very little than the protag's backstory.

3.
I always pictured him flailing. If you've ever played Breath of Fire II, then you have the motion for the child I had in mind. I'd link a video, but I can't find one.

4.
His name is Smithers, actually. Although he's going to be a wandering merchant. In a lot of towns, dungeon entrances, and such. Not all of them, but he's around when you need him.

I'm glad you like it, sorry it's going to take so long, but I can only go so fast.

Oh, I see now. The sign was just the only really obvious thing that stood out to me, but now that I think about it it's pretty well rounded between serious, silly, and strange. At the very least, the demo has me excited about what happens next, as all demos should.

I liked the demonstration. Only thing that happened to me was that the cat stood in front of the path Ms. Dreamcrusher was walking towards her table and dinner. Took about five minutes before she finally got there.

EDIT: Also, how come a forest critter can "Lunch and bite!" at the same time? I thought it ate lunch before it went out to eat careless adventurers.

Not one to be outdone. Particularly not by "New classic" (pfeh) I myself aquired a copy of RPG maker XP and have created a demo of a game that will be, at a conservative estimate, at least four or five times better than his.

It is available here [http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=5a83bf50902fda3fd2db6fb9a8902bda]

If you don't have the RPGMAKER RTP already (it's required for rpg maker games. You can aquire it here [http://tkool.jp/products/rpgxp/eng/rtp_download.html]

Note: Game contains foul language.
