Ok now I live in Canada and I have heard some of my US friends and other people in the US that I don't really know(online game stuff)say that Obama is a Fascist and a Communist. But what I don't understand is that isn't fascism one extreme of the political scale and communism the other? So what I am trying to say is what do they really mean? Or are they just saying random ignorant things? (Also I don't have a super understanding of politics this is just something I have been trying to figure out so please correct me if I am wrong)

PS Please lets not start something here the only thing I want here is my question answered (or corrected)

Yes. Fascism and Communism are two wholly opposed ideologies. Fascism, if anything, bears the most in common with an imperialist logic, while Communism obviously traces its roots back to socialism and is also connected to anarchism. Your "friends" need to inform themselves better.

Incidentally, he's neither. He's a man trying to do a very difficult job, and I don't envy him one damn bit.

If I'm correct, the "communist" part refers to Obama's healthcare bill which apparently makes the USA's healthcare like most other country's, i.e. free. The fascist bit appears to be just pulled out of their arses.

Don't quote me on any of that, though.

I wonder how long until somebody quotes me just to be clever with that last line...

Obama is not merely a Commie Nazi. He is also a gay Jewish muslim leading The Legions Of Hell! And black (well, duh)!

To be completely safe - that was a joke.

But yes - your "friends" are simply dumbasses who don't know a single thing about fascism or communism. Or Obama, for that matter.

Hit the nail on the head here. Most Americans think that position of president is a sort of Olympian throne from which he issues edicts and has absolute power. In fact, the president is merely part of a HUGE bureaucracy, has little direct power, is crucified every time he opens his mouth by one side or the other, and has literally dozens, if not hundreds, of items on his agenda EVERY DAY. When the news isn't talking about it, it's very easy to forget about our collapsing eonomy, TWO foreign wars, legislature that isn't "newsworthy", and the hundreds of other things that go on that we are simply not able or allowed to understand.

To really understand what it is to be president, enter a job for which you haven't been trained, have 150 supervisors shouting orders at you, a dozen or so assignments to complete by the end of the day, and all while keeping your cool and trying to please everyone.

Because both are tied in practice to a state controlled form of government. Something that his agenda is perceived as pushing.

Yeah, safe to say your friends aren't very well educated on international politics. But that's America, my man.
Oh, and by the way, Canada is, collectively, my hero.

I think those people get confused by the term National Socialist Party, and by the facts that Hussein and Hitler both begin with H, that both Saddam and Hitler had moustaches and that Obama's middle name is Hitler Hussein.

The people who say such things are both idiots and geniuses at the same time... but like the polar opposite of an autistic savant.

People call him a communist because of his universal health care plan. Which he failed to hammer through congress even though his party had an enormous majority.
People call him a facist because they think he'll take their guns. Which isn't true, he hasn't passed any new restrictions on owning firearms.

Alternatively, they could be from confederate states.

Fascism and Communism are not opposites if that's what you're thinking. Obama is neither, but he may just be more authoritarian and/or left wing than Americans are used to.

I feel for Obama tbh. He has a lot riding on his shoulders with the whole world scrutinizing his every move. Add that with him being the first black US President, with that has a large percentage of people that would love to see him fail.
One thing though, he is the coolest guy in power tbh :D

People who use these terms regarding Obama are complete and utter idiots. Actually they are beyond stupid.

I blame US education and the media for instilling these misconceptions.
