Oh, and about his health care, simple note form someone how has free healthcare: it sucks!(it wouldn't suck if the Government would have enough money to cover the general needs of a free heath care, but if implemented correct-not during a global recession- it can be a good thing)

Ok now I live in Canada and I have heard some of my US friends and other people in the US that I don't really know(online game stuff)say that Obama is a Fascist and a Communist.

I encounter these people all the time, mainly ignorant US Republicans bordering on fascist themseslves.

"I'm a Socialist" I say, when I explain why "Obama isn't a socialist."

Then they call me a "Filthy Fucking Commie cocksucker" and it goes downhill from there.

Not all americans are ignorant, ive met a fair share of very well informed americans, this is what i see in the media and it makes my blood boil. These people bearly register as people for me. They are ignorant to the point of becoming parasites and are an infection in a normal society.

Also this. Visited DC, everyone (the locals, the nutters, tour guides, awesome clothes shop dude, cute girls descending upon our accents, hell, even including the people working the stand I bought an amazing Steak Sub Sandwich from) All know a shitload about US and international politics. All genuinely awesome people.

Then I met the DC head of the NRA, talk about right wing crackpots.

Hit the nail on the head here. Most Americans think that position of president is a sort of Olympian throne from which he issues edicts and has absolute power. In fact, the president is merely part of a HUGE bureaucracy, has little direct power, is crucified every time he opens his mouth by one side or the other, and has literally dozens, if not hundreds, of items on his agenda EVERY DAY. When the news isn't talking about it, it's very easy to forget about our collapsing eonomy, TWO foreign wars, legislature that isn't "newsworthy", and the hundreds of other things that go on that we are simply not able or allowed to understand.

To really understand what it is to be president, enter a job for which you haven't been trained, have 150 supervisors shouting orders at you, a dozen or so assignments to complete by the end of the day, and all while keeping your cool and trying to please everyone.

I agree, which is why I can't fully hate Bush, Clinton or any other president we've had.

While I do disagree with many of Obama's policies, I don't think he's a Communist, a Facist, or even a bad guy. I think that in order to be in public office, you have to have guts. Most of our presidents, yes even the bad ones (Franklin Pierce, I'm looking at you), were very brave men to take the title, responsibility, bitchiness, and stupidity that goes with running one of the biggest bureaucracies in the world.

OT: No, Obama is not a Communist or a Facist, he's a liberal just like many of his opponents are conservatives. Mainstream America really doesn't like extremes, look at the Westburogh (sp?) Baptist Church or Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Most folks just want someone who can help them fix their problems, or at least diminish the problems they have. America picked Obama because they believed he could at least help them out. I disagree, but I admit that he could be A LOT worse.

I think those people get confused by the term National Socialist Party, and by the facts that Hussein and Hitler both begin with H, that both Saddam and Hitler had moustaches and that Obama's middle name is Hitler Hussein.

The people who say such things are both idiots and geniuses at the same time... but like the polar opposite of an autistic savant.

i site where you can either download games or movies. there are hardly people left buying ds games.

Those people are just wrong. You can't call him an adherent to a certain political system like that when he's in charge of a democratic republic.

Though if you're using a word to mark him like that, he's probably closest to a socialist. If you need more info, read about how he screwed up America's healthcare (though most of the blame for that should be placed on Congress, rather than him).

Communism and Fascism aren't on opposite sides of the spectrum because they're both totalitarian, meaning the state is just about god-like int terms of authority. Fascism is more or less the companies can do what they want, but all they do is ultimately for the state. Communism eliminates companies entirely, you just work for the state. So actually, they are fairly close to each other, although a communist would probably knife you if you told him that.

I blame US education and the media for instilling these misconceptions.

The US education teaches about the government styles and how they work (at least, mine did) and your British, so I think your just pulling the "education thing" out of nowhere.

Which becomes really confusing when you consider that most schools apparently have a 'liberal' slant towards politics, at least, in the higher education spheres. Can't comment on primary education these days, really, but when I was in primary school politics were almost a "no go" for most teachers, outside of social studies, and that didn't go beyond a recitation of history. Many are too afraid of a backlash (which happen often) for espousing one view or the other. It's a tightrope, and most teachers won't take the risk to walk that line.

Beyond a basic understanding of the functions and procedure of government, you don't see much political discussion in schools.

But the media, that's a whole other story. Fox News is entirely too popular, and given too much credit for the lie that they are "fair" in their reporting.
