I read this article and I realized that all they were talking about was the many different groups that Obama has to please with his decisions. Shouldn't he be trying to, I don't know, do what's best for the COUNTRY before a few select interest groups? Does anyone else think that he should make decisions based on the country and less on his party or the groups that support him?

He is the first Black President. I'm not being racist here, but the isn't the media just waiting for a reason to rip him apart? Why wouldn't he try to make everyone happpy?

It's the great flaw of representative government; power is given to those who are popular, not those who are right.

"It's a coalition issue," said Robert Blendon of the Harvard School of Public Health, an expert on public opinion and the politics of health care. "No major group is able by itself to sink health reform. But if numbers of them come together for different reasons, it could really hurt the direction the president wants to go in."

What media? With the exception of FOX News and the National Review, pretty much every member of the news media lathers the guy in endless praise.

Please the public early and it's easier to get their support when you want to do things later.

What is this "only thing" and why does he want to please it?
:B

Ok, ok, there's a question of the man going out of his way to shore up support/build political capital with certain groups rather than use it. I'd be more at ease if I had reason to believe hard-left groups were getting appeased for burning political capital with them in future. Bush rarely had any to spend, which is the other end of the spectrum.

Well I live in Canada so I don't know all that much, but Fox seems very eager to eat him up.

Most of the commentators on that network don't like his anti-capitalistic policies very much and chew him out for his increasing control of the private sector.

He's not pleasing the public, he's pleasing the groups that support him, doing what's best for them, and setting the well-being of the public off to the side.

what you fail to realize is that he is doing is best for the country. if he dosnt please some of the intrest groups they will sit there and make a really big deal and thus kill the bill or whatever stage the legislation is in. thier like Republicans if you dont do what they want they sit there and ***** and whine till they get it.

If he does things people don't like then in the future he won't be able to do things that are really needed.

If you want a leader who doesn't need to please everybody just to blow his nose I suggest you move to a dictatorship.

I'd say the whole recession deal is definitely one of those times when things are really needed. So he should at least try to pull us out of it before he screws himself over.

Not according to that article, though. In the article, he's trying to appease and convince people who don't support his idea to do so.
