Why can`t the mother just sit down with her daughter, and explain that `those` kind of books feature people who maybe are not that nice, and that while chain sex can be fun the conquences may be hard to deal with, and that there is more to life than such a life style

Aparently, they used to call this `parenting`

I can almost see it:
You walk into the library and pick out a book, when you bring it to the counter the librarian looks at you, looks at the book then asks if your 18 or older, and if not you better have an adult with you.

My god the tragedy when that happens to our society.

"I was just accidentally thumbing through the books..."

You weren't accidentally anything. You were NO BULLSHIT snooping though them because you want to censor what your kids read. You lady are the WORST sort of person.

All this stuff about the children... when I was 12 i had seen videos of a gerbil being- well, bad things happened to it. I don't see how books will mess up anything. THERE IS NO INNOCENCE THAT WE NEED TO PROTECT about the children. I say that the sooner they are introduced too what a terrible place the world is, the better.

I share your pain.
Used to share your pain. Now I live in Virginia. So now I have a completely different kind of pain.
I share that completely different kind of pain, except worse because I live one state down that is worse.(North Carolina)

OT: I really don't care, the girls I sit with at lunch never shut up about that fucking show/book so if it prevents future generations from feeling the pain and annoyance I feel then by all means censor the stupid shit.

Well, they have to learn it at sometime right? I mean what's annoying is seeing girls write "Gossip Girl XOXOXO <3" on their facebook profile. Seriously, I don't think EVERYONE on your friends list needs to see this, let alone give a flying fuck.

I have just raised my daughter to believe that all those shows(Gossip Girl, Mel Rose Place, 90210, ect.) and books are for losers. Which they are IMO. They are just a waste of brain space. I cannot fathom why anyone would want to watch or read that crap.

But that being said, it is hardly worth their time to try and ban books. I am against banning books 100%. If some teen wants to read insipid crap I say let them.

If you are under 18, adults think they can decide what's appropriate for you.
Hurray for being a 2nd class citizen.
That is how it works while being a minor. Sucks, but that is life. Just to let you know, being an adult is no party all the time either. Someone is still trying to tell you what to do and when to do it. So I guess that is life in general.

And chain sex =/= chain smoking. Use a condom, and fucking is good for you.
Until the condom breaks, obviously. Why else would there be so many teen pregnancies?

And anyway, I'm all for books having labels and ratings. And as for the old lady calling Gossip Girls pornography, well, any photo/description that calls sexual images to your mind is technically pornography. Soft-core, no doubt, but her point isn't completely ignorable.

Um because majority of teens are learning a false rate of failure for condoms along with abstinence only education so when they have sex (which they will) they do it unprotected because they don't learn the huge benifit of covering their member. I'm pretty sure minority of teens are using condoms.

Not supported by the teens I talk to. I am a 17 year old virgin, as are most of my friends, and we don't intend to have sex any time soon. Of my friends who do have sex, they all use condoms. One's pregnant from a cracked condom.

I don't know what the books are about but I have to wonder. Being Australian, and not having books separated by age category, what stops a teenager from walking to the 'adult' section and taking a book off the shelf? I don't think the library could afford bouncers now can they?

And can we get porn, real porn, from libraries with adult sections?

Well, I think they're going a bit too far there with the whole idea of rating books, but seriously, have you read a teen book recently. They're pretty much wrecked by the drop of an F-bomb on every second sentence, on top of that, someones doing someone else on every second page. Now I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but when reading it, I just can't take it seriously, considering the fact that half of these books always seem to feature some kind of misfit, unlikeable bunch of teens who try to come off as somehow mature throughall the afforementioned content, it just becomes stupid. It's the equivalent of a 5 year old attempting to trash-talk with a straight face, or a game being over the top in terms of the characters all being whiny, brooding unlikeable dipshits, all who do it with a straight face (Here's looking at you prototype).

Pegghead is enrolling at that fine academy you attend!

When I get there, could you give me directions to the motorcross stadium, or the Chuck Norris dojo?

...what, pray tell, is "chain sex?" Does that just mean having more than one partner?
I'm thinking it's like a conga line...

Nah, your one is probably right. Conga lines are too awesome for Gossip Girl.
