I've been learning English through video-games since first year as a university student. Fallout, Planescape Torment, Shenmue, KOTOR, Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines, Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect, Dreamfall, Dragon Age, numerous shooters and strategy games.
It helped a lot, really, although my vocabulary now consists of quite specific words - I know weapons, ships, engineering, components, computers, command structure of US military, and how the jedi speak, but sometimes have difficulty with simplest everyday things.

Civilization and Assassin's Creed helped with history. What really got me off the ground, however, was Age of Empires. Good times.

I also have basic knowledge of cars, guns, swords, gunswords, tanks, and probably computers thanks to video games.
Pretty much this. Except remove Assassin's Creed, and add mention of Ace Combat getting me interested into jet fighters and teaching me a bit about them. (Only a bit, though. No real jet can carry 80 missiles plus 15 large fuel-air bombs, sadly)

I learned about hostile corporate takeovers in Rail Road Tycoon 3. I also found out that I would be an *evil* chairman as far as mergers go.

I learn a lot of random trivia in games.

What's funny is that most of the random trivia I learn is brought up in some form or another after I learn it. Like my life is some kind of after-school special about why video games are good.

And Assassin's Creed taught me that the Assassins existed (To some degree) so I did a school project about them, once.

Saints Row 2 showed my why I was a horrible driver, since apparently I drive in that game just like I do in real life. I don't drive anymore.

Fallout 1 & 2 taught me that shooting a person five times in the head and then twice in the eyes does jack shit even if you're using a 10mm handgun.

Fallout 3 taught me how to stop time.

Red Dead Redemption taught me how to play Blackjack and Liar's Dice.

Shooter games in general taught me that you don't need to cock a gun after every shoot usually (stupid action movies!).

I played videogames since I was 6.
When I turned 16, I got my license, and have been a very safe driver because of my hand-eye coordination.
