I learned of the benefits of sandviches from Team Fortress 2.
Now, I don't get into any gunfights without a couple sandviches in my pockets.

I learned about everything I know about the Cuban missile crisis from Metal Gear 3. In fact I learned a lot about the Cold War in general from that game, both solid facts and conspiracy theories.

Haha hell yes I do that all the time! Whenever I watch action movies I try to identify the guns the people are using!

It also applies for other stuff that I cant think of right now >_>

One of the best shows I'v seen, and one that I will never forget.
P.S.-Welcome to burger, home of the good burger. May I take ya' awe'duh?

OT-It appears I derailed to Orange Soda without giving this thread an answer.
But then again, whenever is that a bad thing ;D

Civilization IV had me going to learn more about history.
Napoleon: Total War got me to research much about him that I hadn't know.
I've gained an astounding love for Mother Russia from many different games over the years.
ARMA taught me when you are shot, you will go down. Hard.
Many other things too, but I just woke up. My brain isn't at a full capacity as it should be.

I learned one can visit their local Pay 'n' Spray to lower their wanted level. I also learned that bad guys sometimes can survive a bullet to the head. I learned that animals such as snakes and crocodiles are edible, thanks to MGS 3.

as scary as it sounds, I learned how to drive from video games. of course, that is because I played the simulations, like Forza.

one day, I hope to learn how to fly planes by playing microsoft flight sims.
I know it's a long time ago and probably already mentioned, but don't.

Learn from Flight Unlimited. NOT Flight Unlimited 2. The ORIGINAL. The one which used real-world physics models to get a game which taught you better about aerodynamics than the "proper" simulators they used at the time to train pilots.

OT: Dragon Age taught me that ballistae are a better way to kill creatures larger han yourself than swords.

And I learnt a little bit about drugs from Shrooms Mode in Rise of the Triad.

Oh, and can't forget to throw in a couple of sensible answers. I gained enough interest to research how much of the game's backstory was true and learnt a lot directly and indirectly from Assassin's Creed, the Dynasty Warriors series, and Way of the Samurai. I learnt a surprising amount about real swordfighting from Bushido Blade and Kengo: Master of Bushido as well. Which has been reinforced by doing re-enactment fighting and helping several Kendo students I'm friends with in their training.

EDIT: Forgot an important one.

Descent taught me spatial awareness.

But not very well, I still have trouble finding my way anywhere. But I'm a LOT better than I used to be.

Not so much trivia as a skill, but Virtua Cop and Time Crisis meant I did crazy good the first time I shot a real gun at a gun range. Hand eye co-ordination, I suppose. I'm from England, where we don't have much in the way of a gun culture, so I had to go to Arizona to do it. I was there on holiday when a novelist friend we were with wanted to go shoot guns, so we did. And the man who ran the range was actually pretty impressed at my performance, for a rookie.

(I did one set going for centre target, where the best points are and the second set going for the head, in preparation for the inevitable zombie holocaust)

what you just said is a lie. this is the truth

WHAT NOW?
I can't believe your arrogance! Pretending to be the internet. Everyone knows Al Gore is the internet. Unless you really are Al Gore? Then...well, my mind is blown.

i learned most of my WW2 knowledge from battlefield 1942
You know that was one of the least historically accurate games out there?

Most of my gun knowledge comes from the Rainbow Six games, and most of what I know about small unit tactics from Brothers in Arms.

I learnt how to shoot at long distances and how to compensate for the Coriolis effect. Have yet to put it into use in real life, but when I have to shoot someone far away I can do it!

I learned a ton of history from video games, and video games were the reason for me becoming interested in history in the first place.

Civilization 2 taught me as a young kid about the Wonders of the World and all different cultures. It's hard to pinpoint exactly how it benefited me, but I think it's responsible for at least some of my love of history.

hah, same here! I also learned of the various cities of the civilizations in the game and a few of their leaders.

OT: I would probably estimate that a lot of my knowledge (useless and otherwise) is from games.

Videogames in general helped me learn vocabulary, grammar (I know some games aren't very well written, but that's not the point), and speaking.
Also, they taught me to attack our adversary with our strongest point, but also trying to look after our weakest - Mgalekgolo (Hunter), from Halo

Actually, I've learned a little bit of First Aid and Medical from games.

I make sure things are legit before I go sticking things in me, though, so don't worry.
