The only thing coming to mind is Police Quest taught me how to play poker and that was a really long time ago. Out of all my friends, I'm the nerd of the group. Everyone else goes hunting or fixes cars or has some strange novelty hobby that somehow becomes pertinent to what I'm doing at some point, so I don't need video games to teach me anything. I guess it works the other way around too. If ever my friends get stuck on a level or need their computers fixed, they call me.

Can you tell the difference between an Assault Rifle and a Sub-Machine gun thanks to Modern Warfare? Did you learn what flanking was by playing StarCraft?
Ahaha, oh wow.
>AKS-74U is a submachinegun
MW2 classes it as an SMG but in reality, it's a carbine, similar to the M4.

Most video games regarding the military are quite unrealistic... but I suppose I learned what a bolt-action rifle was, and the famed MP40, M1 Garand, and Mosin-Nagant weapons from Call of Duty... that was a while back.

I learned about how diseases and indeed micro-organisms and to a degree the process of bio recombination works from playing Dead Space.

EDIT: I also learned of the greatness of the Sangheili from playing Halo 2.
Too bad bio recombination isn't real.
That we know of.
But when the Space zombies show up, guess who'll be prepared!
Touché.

You can get a nice amount of trivia from playing videogames.

For example, I learned that the Spetsnaz exist from playing Modern Warfare 2 and what the difference between a rear wheel drive and front wheel drive by playing Forza Motorsport 2.

How about you?
Oddly enough, I learned all of this shit from my dad... I have a weird family.
Weird, I learned it all from Discovery Channel... I have a weird TV schedule.

OT: How tanks work different from a car. It all has to do with he way the wheels are. If they where normal wheels, then it would go like a normal car, but, because of the treads, it controls more like a truck stuck in pudding.

I learned the "slice the pie" technique from one of the early "S.W.A.T" games many many years ago. I've used it ever since, and it keeps me alive in any shooter.

I learnt so much classical mythology and history from Caesar 3 and Master of Olympus: Zeus. Although its mostly useful in quizzes and the latin/greek/classics lessons I had at school.

I learned so much about football from the Football Manager games. Mostly about younger players who I hadn't seen play on television, and about some teams histories (and player histories too).

I learnt my basic Greek Mythology from playing Age of Mythology when I was a little tyke. ah, memories.

More recently: everything I know about Italy, and, in fact, most of my horrible Italian, comes from AC: II.

I can't get nipote out of my head.
