So, how many games have we played, where at some point of the game a major character died, and the game playes it off as some sort of tragic moment... exept for one thing...

We don't really care for that character

rather it's because lack of immersion or just a cardbord cut out of a character, we are'nt really sad to see that person kick the bucket

so I ask you: What character is that for you, and from what game

for me, that character is Axel, From Kingdom Hearts 2... Not quite the tragic moment the game wanted it to be for me

The marine who dies during the beginning mission of Mass Effect. There's you, Kaiden, and some complete gimp who runs into the middle of enemy fire and gets himself killed.

I didn't think "what a tragic loss", I thought "what a complete git."

Sergeant Johnson (or something), Halo 3. Maybe it's because I only played Halo 3, but he kinda came and went without me ever really knowing who he was.

Aeris from FF7. Seriously, if the character had some use i'd be at least annoyed. Also,Reks(?) from FF12.

Nah, I played all the halos and all I could think was "Well he should have left it to the chief in the first place."

There was also the heroes mother in Fable. I only met her once aside from her death, and that was during one of the worst mission in the game.

Final Fantasy VII: Aeris. Didn't like her from the beginning; she was bland and boring.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories: Every death except Larxene's. I couldn't care less about any of these characters and didn't see why I was supposed to.

Kingdom Hearts II: Axel, ditto. Though I did kind of feel bad for Roxas for getting so thoroughly wiped.

Aeris from Final Fantasy 7.
"Eh, I never used her anyway." said I.
Guess it was because she didn't prove useful.

Anyone in FFIV. Maybe it was because I was eight at the time, or maybe it was because everyone in that game seemed to be suicidal.

Martin in Oblivion. Oh well.
I second that with everything I've got. His sacrifice didn't really move me emotionally like it probably was supposed to. All I thought was: "well yeah of course it's easy for you to jump in now since I did all the hard stuff for you."

Felt damned unappreciated so couldn't care less really.

Sgt. Johnson's also a good one; it felt like some cheesy Hollywood-death, and kind of stupid on his part.

I was also sad when Vlad bit it in Max Payne 2, especially considering the circumstances.
erm, you seem to have the idea backwards, but I agree

RIP: Zero... oh wait, you'll be in the sequal

Yeah....I read about two lines of the first post XD

But Zero does qualify technically since they unkill him.

haha, Jenkins. Yeah, you'd think they would have at least made him a really endearing and cool character over the course of a mission or so before he died... That said, just about everyone who dies in COD is meaningless. Another one that comes to mind is Kahn from Rainbow Six Vegas. Even Gabriel betraying everyone is kind of pointless because you really didn't know him as a character.

The first time I played, I nearly cried during that scene with Aeris, but that was more a "I wasted 5 hours grinding her limit breaks for THIS?".
