I thought it added nothing to the game. I could use it perfectly fine (in fact the Mako driving sections were the easiest parts in an already pretty simple game), but it was never actually fun at any point. It also didn't make the universe feel any bigger to me, because every planet felt like the exact same place re-skinned to a different colour. Pretty much all the missions that took advantage of these planets were also exactly the same, and involved shooting the same turrets on the way to the same base where you will shoot the same mercenaries.

Then you get to activate the quest button/take the quest object/kill the quest guy and it's over. What fun...

I think completely ripping it out was the best thing they could have done, and the sidequests in Mass Effect 2 were a great improvement (if only because they usually offered a little variety).

It could have controlled a bit better, but overall I liked it. Like other people have said, it added an exploration element, and made the world/universe look bigger. It also gave me a feeling of freedom.

I think this element was sorely missing from ME2, but I understand that they added another vehicle (Hammerhead apparently in DLC that I haven't played. Hopefully BioWare will wise up and give us a vehicle in ME3 in the main game.

I hated it. One of the MANY things about ME1 that was improved upon in the sequel. I dont understand why people want to go to those barren planets with different colored dirt and sky with the same relics and buildings over the lusher environments on the N7 sidequests of the sequel. You should be able to tell how "big" the universe is just by how you travel about on the Normandy.

Dont even get me started on people who want to go back to everybody wearing the same white and pink armor instead of looking unique.

Personally I've found the Mako to be fun at best and tolerable at worst and it made the universe seem very large. I think the handling was fine for me because I used the keyboard for the control though, I imagine the sensitive turning with a controller would be significantly more difficult and less fun.

Did anyone else enjoy the Mako vehicle sections and were you using a keyboard or controller?
It's fucking horrible. Handles like shit, the aim in ass-backwards. At it's best, it was driving along designated paths in the landscape, but it's more like basejumping and mountaineering than driving a jeep. It's just a horrible piece of hardware. And jumping over projectiles? What is this shit? Super Mario Bros?! Hell, I doubt even Bioware liked it, just look at this offical t-shirt design;

While I agree on the whole exploration factor, that was one of the few things I missed in ME2 (and most likely will be gone in ME3 too), I didn't miss the Mako one bit. All things considered, you spend more time with the Mako in ME1, than you do planet scanning in ME2.

If you ask me, planet scanning was the lesser of two evils.

I never thought of it as trying to be a jeep and I like jumping over projectiles. I will admit that I can see what people hate about it, but that stuff never bothered me... much anyway.
Copy pasted terrain and dungeons were my only real complaint and that had less to do with the Mako itself anyway.

I hate planet scanning and believe the best way is to have all the resources you need during missions/side missions.

That is an awesome t-shirt design.

I enjoyed the Mako, it just needed more varied planet environments, and less ridiculously steep terrain separating you from your objective. I was disappointed planetary exploration wasn't included in ME2.

I loved it. Off roading...IN SPACE!!!

The hammerhead was better though. It was a floating tank. A. Floating. Tank. I'll let that sink in, bro.

The mako handles like a shopping cart with a bowling ball strapped to one side and a paint mixing machine in the center but at least ti was tough. The hammer head can get torn apart by simple infantry if there is enough of them.

Well I had difficulty travelling in a straight line on the 360. It seemed to take my commands and blow them way out of proportion. "Oh, a rock, better turn left." *Performs hairpin turn, sails majestically off cliff.* Not to mention the fact that there wasn't really anything fun to drive around in the first place. Oh, and I hated how long it took to repair. And it was surprisignly hard to hit individual enemies. Yeah, just hated it overall.

A floating tank made of tissue paper.

I felt the Mako was a very fun vehicle to use. I found the handling to be appropriate for low-gravity environments.

I also feel that the weapon systems were completely adequate.

I mean, you've got a very effective machine gun which is highly accurate, and a hard-hitting cannon.

Also I agree that the Mako made the worlds feel very large. I also feel it gave the player an incredible amount of freedom.

On one other note, I enjoyed being able to use the booster to "pop-shoot" over cover using the cannon. The booster feature permitted me to be extremely effective in a tactical sense.

Finally, by comparison, I thought that the hammerhead is utterly gimmicky, and I dislike it very much. The weapon system is a snoozefest that rarely involves any skill.

It was a neat concept implemented badly, they could have moved forward and improve it, but hey why heal a broken limb when you can just chop it off and be done with it.

I loved the Mako, performing stunts with it, powering off cliffs and killing whole loads of bad guys and Geth from range.

Taking it out of ME2 was imo a big mistake, replacing it with the wretched Hammerhead was a bigger one.

I never had any real problems with it, sometimes it would go slightly out of control but it was really a matter of seconds to wrench it back under control, and I found that difficulty and attention required to control it made it fun. I had more issues with the environments that weren't part of the main quest, they were nerely always the same thing with a different paint coating.

The Hammerhead was FUN to control, but wasn't used anywhere near enough to make it better than the Mako.

keyboard and it was fine, i really liked the mako, it was a bouncing jumping tank that shoots tank shells.(btw how to rockets work in the ME universe, i mean they can't operate like all the other guns, can they?). Also it got way better when i had to drive the hammerhead, not only was that thing made out of tissues it also did not have a health bar.
i don't mind regenerating health so much BUT GIVE ME HEALTH BAR so i have a number to judge when running became the most viable strategy and don't have to judge this by approximate jam count

Well, it was usable... Although abit tough to drive on steep areas where you can do a shortcut to your destination. Also, it bounces too much, so sometimes you have to slightly tap the keyboard(I have the PC version, obviously) so that it won't flip over or something. But I may also suck at driving that thing, so don't blame it entirely. :p

It was a bit annoying at times yes, but I eventually got the hang of it and and driving full speed towards a geth colossus and ramming it down was absolutely hilarious

I disliked the monotony of the Mako section in ME1, and the annoyance of the terrain.

However, I felt ME2 was poorer with the Mako sections replaced by a probe based pixel hunt...
