Well, my opinion is mixed. On one hand, it was pretty damned fun the first time around. Things went all to hell once I had a good feel for the controls, though, because all the maneuvering I'd do on Liara's mission would bring me to the shores of a lake of fire so hot that the convection apparently cooks your entire crew before you even touch it.

controlled fine on the 360, i would personally go to mountainsides and stuff on planets sometimes when i was bored just to go flying off and use the glider thrusters to have some fun.

I hated it and i still do, not because of the controls, i didn't like the whole driving around and searching for random stuff part, even more so on planets with steep mountains. It wasn't so bad on the main missions.

I just found some of the mountain sections really difficult to climb in it. Other than that, I really enjoyed the Mako. Those sections really did make ME1 seem like a bigger game than ME2 was.

*sigh*

You should have seen what the Mako could have done BEFORE it was nerfed.

<- worked on the UNCs (uncharted worlds).

i loved it, UCW were one of my favourite aspects of that game purely because of the fun that could be had in the mako. i can understand why it was removed though, i just wish it wasn't.

I loved it. Never had any problems with controls, exploration was fun, combat as well. OP has a point about pathfinding - there almost always was a path you could take to reach a destination easily, without bouncing over pointy rocks. Many people however couldn't be bothered to look for it.

Replacing it with Hammerhead was a stupid, stupid decision, simply because HH doesn't measure up to Mako. Sure, it's fun to drive and explore with it, but in combat it's unusable. Combat vehicle that can't take five seconds of small arms fire? Please.

I was disappointed when it wasn't in ME2. I loved just exploring planets, and ramming into geth.

Well it was a bit awkward depending on what you'd expect. But I still loved it. I loved the stunts you could pull with it. I also enjoyed driving towards enemies and crushing them under the Mako.

I liked the Mako, but I think the real problem was that the developers too it far too seriously. It's an off-road buggy with a big-ass cannon that's launched from your spaceship at high speed, using fire to make its crashes slightly more non-fatal.

They couldn't have stuck in a la-cucaracha horn or a Dukes o' Hazzard "Yeeeeeehaw!" that you could play when you launched yourself off a cliff? Seriously, imagine if a different character said it depending on who was in your party(Being a republican in space we'll forget about Ashley and, well, fuck Kaiden). Can you hear Wrex saying it? Good, isn't it? Now what about Tali? Garrus? Liara?

Off topic: I really, really want that Mako shirt now.

I liked the Mako, but I truly hated the randomized-computer-generated terrain. If they were going to have driving stuff, in a big area like that, they need to give it more thought. Some of those planets were nothing but mountains and canyons, and were hell on earth to get around in. Fix the terrain, and I'd love the Mako. Planetscanning will always be rubbish though.

I played them both on the 360, and never had any trouble controlling them. I do know people who failed to realise the Mako had a cannon though, which meant they really hated it.

Something which occurred to me just seconds after my last post.

Is there much of a modding community for Mass Effect? I'm really surprised I've never heard about anybody mocking up a Warthog escape-type level (like the ends of Halo and Halo 3) using the Mako.

Has this been done and I missed it?

Loved it on my first playtrought, hated it on my last one(completed last week).
The physics and the controls are just laughable and the planets where you can land are pretty much empty and boring to explore.

It wasn't a bad idea, but it was way too easy to overcompensate at least in the PC version. Way too often I would find myself unintentionally doing a 180 while under fire.
