With all due respect, your mother isnt the brightest bulb.
Mine once tried something like that ages ago, I just kept doing it and once she finally confronted me I just told her "Im still me, aint I ?"

yeah i'm going to have to second this

if your mom can't tell your smart by actually talking to you and how you interact with people, sure you will chat but i'm sure you also go out, then well your mom needs to get slapped with the smartening up hand once or twice

mine was never that stupid to think stuff like that, she doesn't understand computers but does understand what i do and actually asks me what i do.

the worst i had to do was explain what this shirt meant

i told her to ask her bf

Start playing with a knife as soon she gets into your room and just stare at her without saying a word.. should probly make her stop entering your room :)
That has a chance of not working or worrying her more. Use the computer nude. Trust me, it teaches everyone to knock after the first time. Psychological warfare ftw!

Reminds me of that GI Joe cartoon, where the guy goes to the kid and says "Hey! Kid! I'm a computer! Stop all the downloadin'!"

In all seriousness, this is a problem you simply can't run away from. The fact is, her behavior is causing tension between you two, and distancing you two from each other. Your best bet is to take time away from your computer time and her TV time to face this head on and explain to her the old saying, "Don't believe everything you hear on TV." and that Dr. Phil's and Oprah's messages need to be taken with a grain of salt. More importantly, emphasize how this is deteriorating your relationship with her and remind her there was a time she was a teenager, and ask her, is this the relationship she'd want with her mother? Hopefully, if she isn't too close minded, she will listen.

I'm glad I got my intelligence from my mum. she's smart enough to understand the difference between hyped media and real life.try to explain the situation to your mom to your best extent .even go as far as to discuss the nature of this show she watched with her(probably a talk show from what i can understand).Explain it all to her, clamly.doing some extra chores in the house doesn't hurt either.

Whenever she is checking her emails, go up to her, and say, "GET OFF THE MSN".
Or move out.
I agree. This is obviously the only possible course of action.

to be honest its probably a good thing that she has taken a step at least(as poorly thought out as her approach may have been) but all in all I fucking despise the tv for more or less the same reason.

Now she frequently comes in and forces me to show her my Steam messages and she reads them out of context thinking they're my personal harem or gang. Just wanted to share my story, any tips on how to save my mother would be nice.
Tell her "No. I don't read the letters you get from your friends, and I don't listen to your private phone calls. This is the same thing, but on a computer."

Move out of your mother's house. Problem solved
I'm in high school. 1 more year then that is a possibility :(
Wow. Your mother is like the distilled essence of middle-class housewife Stupid. Does she work, or is she an actual middle-class idiot busybody housewife? And where's your dad in all this? Might want to pull him aside in the garage and say "how have you dealt with Mom all these years? And, no offense, but how do I find a girl who's not like that?"

Actually, I can answer the latter question for you: Don't marry an American girl.

But seriously, just tell her to mind her own business, if necessary go on a long rant about how she ruined your life from an early age, and hope she breaks down.

(God I'm evil)
Nah, it's just 'tough love' to keep the ***** in line. I did the same thing to my mother and it got her to leave me alone.

Me thinks you might be able to have fun with this situation (I know I would).

You might be able to throw her off by haveing all your conversations in a another language for a little while (just use google translator).

My mom used to be like that. Telling me to go outside and make friends and not spend so much time on games or the internet. Then one day she just stopped. I think she realized I was a hope less cause who like being a loner.
This worked for me.
Nag nag nag nag nag and then...Silence...
It was great. It's the only way that I'm able to even be saying this here.

Well, if she has e-mail just explain to her that the instant messaging you're doing is just e-mail but instantaneous rather than waiting for a reply. Also, really drive home the fact that it's free, and that the girl on TV was just an example of an extreme case and is extremely unlikely, which is why she was on the show in the first place.

I FUCKING HATE 'DOCTOR' PHIL.

Really, I don't live in even the same state as my parents, but they're always trying to give me advice they got from that moron. Half of it doesn't even make sense, and the rest sounds like he's been taking advice from an Amish Jack Thompson. RAWRGRALLRWOWKHBTMIBTMXIBWKBGMXKBIGBEI!!!!!! RAGE!

My parents are idiots.

I had to live for years with that kind of nonsense and much worse besides, sadly little you can say will have any effect on her as anything you say wont carry the same weight as something said by dr phil to her lol.

as others have said, moving out will solve the issue. I know you can't right now, just gotta sit tight, grin n bear it for one more year then get out pronto.

I'm so glad oprah hasn't reached these shores yet, seems like a cult thing lol.

My mum does not care. On the other hand, my dad assumes every time I'm typing im talking to a girl. He also seems to think that I screw every girl in my class. Annoying as hell, since I do neither.
