The problem is that many Radiohead fans seem too stubborn to admit that Thom Yorke did not invent the damn genre. Radiohead is overrated because everybody claims that "Radiohead did it first". No they did not, they were just the first ones to become popular (which has more to do with luck than talent most of the time).Nazulu said:Radiohead have a different style that people love, what the hell is wrong with that?
It's fine to enjoy it. It's another to purposely ignore and flame other bands because they can't be the Beatles. So many bands get blasted by Beatles fanatics for "screwing up" cover songs and anyone who even attempts to bad mouth or even express disinterest in the Beatles gets eaten alive. Seriously, they had a good thing going and they were extremely influential, BUT you gotta hand over the reigns. The Beatles are (almost literally) dead and gone. Stop making them out to be some kind of gold standard. They were just four guys with some really good ideas, not rock gods.Nazulu said:Why? Does that mean we can't enjoy there music or does it mean to you that their songs can't entertain people anymore?
They had over 70 great songs, thats a shit load of songs.
People who like psychadelic rock like it because it tries to not center around simple riffs and other rock cliches. It's more of an experience with the music than just listening to a song. But there are so many genres and bands that also do this that get skipped over because they aren't on the same list in iTunes as Pink Floyd.Nazulu said:Well thats your poor opinion. Psychadelic rock and all other types of music need great riffs in order to be great.
Here's a hint, in case you missed it:ironlordthemad said:I was posting in FolkLikePanda's under rated musician thread and I noticed that some people were mentioning over rated musicians/bands as well, so I thought I would just open up a thread devoted to the that topic as well.
So who do you think is over rated in the music world?
I personally dont like U2 and I dont get their appeal, most of that is to do with bono's voice, its horrible, but he is seen as a great musician by people.
I also dont like Tom De'Longe from Blink 182, I like blink 182 but I hate Tom's voice and his guitar work isnt really earth shaking.
As you can tell I think that a singer sets the tone of the band because they are the most (pardon the pun) vocal and noticable in the band. So for me a great band can be ruined by a bad set of vocals that dont work well with the rest of the band.
What do you think?
Fucking nice!Zeeky_Santos said:Expect some support from me, We can be Unforgiven by them. They certainly have Attitude. I suppose we could beat them down with a 2 x 4 or just find a cure for the thing that should not be but I guess I'm just Wasting my hate. When we get to The End of the line we could always pop some cyanide instead of waiting for The day that never comes. It's Sad but true.michael_sturtridge92 said:metallica aren't overrated, they spearheaded and defined an entire genre along with slayer, anthrax and megadeth. they've sold more records than any other band on earth besides the beatle, including 5 consecutive no. one albums & Master of Puppets remains one of the greatest albums of all time. hmph.
yes i expect backlash.
I was trying to make a comment about the fans of metallica instead of the band themself. I used to be all over Metallica then I heard stuff like Sleepwalker, In My Darkest Hour, etc. I still like Metallica just Megadeth a little more because all Metallica songs follow the same formula (2-4min buildup, 3minute singing, 1 min solo, then end).Zeeky_Santos said:You know that you guys are being the biggest hypocrites ever right?HaddsSparx said:finally someone who agrees with me Metallica are a bunch of sell-outs now 1989 onwards it all went downhill. (Seriously give Megadeth an actual chance you will be suprised)
You just said that you dislike it when Metallica fans rag on Megadeth, what do you do no more than 2 lines down? You rag on Metallica! surprise, surprise, surprise. Really, only about 1% of all fans rag on other bands, its just that they are the only ones vocal about it. Besides, Mustaine helped out with Metallica anyway, they're practically related.
Nope, I'd agree with that. They've got about two songs that I enjoy, the rest never even began to interest me.RavingLibDem said:Personally I don't like Queen, I think their overhyped, and dont really get the appeal of their songs....
*prepares to be roasted alive*
No you said "Radiohead (seriously, there are so many more bands to be paying attention to in alternative than these guys)", which has nothing to do with their fanbase thinking they invented the genre. I also hope you don't believe all Radiohead fans are like that.Cerrax said:The problem is that many Radiohead fans seem too stubborn to admit that Thom Yorke did not invent the damn genre. Once again you said "The Beatles (Only half the band is even still alive. Get over it already)", which once again has nothing to do with people flaming other bands because the Beatles are the best and whatever.Cerrax said:It's fine to enjoy it. It's because you said something completely different this time and that you assumed I could read your bloody mind! I listen to a lot of music, probably more than you so don't even go there.Cerrax said:It sounds like you are one of those "rock snobs" who thinks they know everything about music, but in reality don't really listen to much at all. I notice that you didn't even respond to my posts about Metallica and Dragonforce.
