Nirvana.
Don't get me wrong, I like them, they had some decent stuff, but really they weren't anything to orgasm about.

Black Sabbath. I like Ozzy, but really I find Sabbath far too slow to get into very much.
I think a lot of people feel a need to like them, and even if they don't, say they do. I don't mnd some songs, Paranoid for one example, but really I'm not exactly impressed.

Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater. When I first started drumming, I thought he was really good, but then as time went on, I never really heard much variety in his playing from Images and Words though Train of Thought, and all his solos are really boring. Sure, he does some things with time signatures that are really good, but after hearing masters like Jojo Mayer and Gavin Harrison, i just don't understand how people can call him the greatest. He's not even close.

Radiohead for me.

I got the night train from London back after a Kayo Dot and Jesu show and I had to put up with 4 hours of very Studenty Students (you know the type, I'm sure) talking about enlightenment, backpacking and what they THINK is good weed all while I was torn between wanting to get to sleep and trying not to burst out laughing.
So eventually, the conversation turned to music, as was inevitable, and one asked another one "So what sorta music do you like?" and was met with the reply "Well, it's not mainstream or anything, but Radiohead. I like music with emotions 'n stuff, y'know?"

This is why I hate Radiohead. Music made for the masses to think they're artistic and deep.
That and Thom Yorke is the most irritating vocalist I've ever laid ears on.
Only good thing the guy ever did was UNKLE - Rabbit In Your Headlights.

Ill just assume you're not an older person, due to you saying "i'm not impressed", personally I love Sabbath, but you need to base it on the time, not now, and by merit of what it meant when Sabbath came out, they invented heavy metal, and stuff like Iron Man, Paranoid, etc are still going to be classics for those reasons. Ok yeah you've seen more thrashy or heavier stuff now, but that only exists because of what those guys did back in the day.

The problem I have with "over-rated" is that in reality it boils down to "They're popular but I don't like them" You can't really over rate something as a rating is just an opinion, sometimes with numbers in it. And as everyone knows opinions are pretty much useless. Even this one. So in writing this out I'm really just wasting my time...

Eh...

But anyway everyone knows its the Jonas Brothers. They're not a band, they're a money trap for disgusting disney fan girls.

I personally think that Hannah Montana, the Jonas Brothers and pretty much ANYTHING/ANYONE Tweenies nowadays obsess over are WAY over-rated. They even have their own TV shows for crying out loud!

As a drummer. I can say this: Travis Barker.

Completely overrated, go watch some Buddy Holly on youtube for real drumming.

why didnt anyone else think of this, we should be ashamed of ourselves!
People here seem to be hard core metal fans, that don't care about the popular stuff and just see those metallica, nirvana e.t.c. stuff. People say metallica, which has (idk) some millions of fans, but they actually try to make music and made rock/metal genre popular, while Jonas Brothers have (IDK) 100 of millions people listening to their stuff while they play only basic stuff.

There never was good pop with the exeption of one...

As much as I am a metalhead, only MJ made good songs. He sang about thigs he experienced, like discrimination and such. Every other shitty pop "musician" sings about love and has 5 divorces.

Actually as you become a real music enthusiast you grow out of thinking one band is better than another. I like what I like and Im unapologetic about it. It's people more than the bands that bother me. I find myself trying to suggest post-rock to metal/rap/country fans to try and get them out of the mind set that all good music sounds the same. I don't know I just don't look at things like that. Maybe it's because my Dad has a progressive rock band and raised me on YES, Jethro Tull, Peter Gabriel and Todd Rundgren so now I listen to everything that sounds remotely interesting like Explosions in the sky, This will destroy you, Sigur Ros, Kyte, The Antlers, Timaria, rap you never heard of like Binary Star and Chino XL, mainstream stuff like EverClear, Blink182, BoxcarRacer, BrandNew, Radiohead and OLP.

Point is don't limit yourselves.
Thank you. My system is pretty much the same; I listen to whatever the hell I like, no matter whether people give it good reviews or not (I only like Stairway to Heaven because I actually like the song, for example, not because of the cult following, and I like several My Chemical Romance songs, because they're either cleverly written, funny in that sort of dry, bitter way, or sound good), so I work it all out by myself. Trust me, if somebody like, hmmmm... Peter Andre came out with a good song (actually, come to think of it, Behind Closed Doors is pretty good), I'd listen to it. I only really start to like a band as opposed to songs by a band after I find several songs I like of theirs. An example of this is Aerosmith; I loved the song 'Don't Wanna Miss A Thing' from the second I heard it, but I didn't actually start liking the band until I found other songs, like 'Mama Kin', 'Back in the Saddle', 'Walk This Way', 'Love in an Elevator' and more. And still, I don't glory-support them; I only like the ones I like, and I only listen to those (and the others, once in a while, to see whether my opinion has changed) and any new ones, to see if I like those too.

I like both Metallica songs and Megadeth songs, because really, it's not the people that I'm a fan of, it's the music. I don't care if Mustaine likes/hates/wants to get back in with the guys from Metallica, I care if he can make music or not.

And I'm also going to say that I don't like every Queen song, or every Elton John song, despite liking them as artists and the cult followings the former has.

I dislike most club or pop, but only because most of it's shit. Once in a while, a good one comes out, and I listen to it. Hell, even a good hip-hop or rap song can get me (several Eminem ones are good, and I listen to them accordingly).

Anyway, my long-winded, rambling post is basically conveying the same message: don't limit yourselves, because you can miss out on some awesome music. And, really, that's all that matters.

Addendum: No, just kidding. Listen to everything except that Disney shit, because it's soiling the good name of music. Hannah Montanna is NOT rock, she is shitpop. Same for those pussies the Jonas Brothers. If they marketed themselves as what they were, maybe I'd give it a listen once in a while... but they don't, so I'm making a stand.
